Abstract

This research aims to determine teacher strategies in increasing students' English learning motivation during the era of the new normal and find out whether the strategies applied by teachers can increase students' English learning motivation during the era of the new normal at SMP Negeri 4 Sajingan Besar for the academic year of 2021/2022. This research is in the form of a qualitative descriptive. The data collection technique is a combination of direct and indirect methods. The participants of this research were 2 English teachers and 15 students. Data was collected using interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The results showed that the teacher used several strategies to increase students' English learning motivation during the era of the new normal and found out whether the strategies applied by the teacher could increase students' learning motivation during the era of new normal, the teacher used demonstration, small group discussion, blended learning, and games. The most increasing motivation with the strategy used is extrinsic motivation.

Abstract

Tujuan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk membantu sekolah menghadapi masa transisi pasca pandemi Covid-19 dengan cara membantu mempersiapkan lingkungan yang nyaman untuk siswa dan guru dan membantu mengenalkan pengajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan melalui pelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang masih belum menjadi tuntutan di awal Tahun 2022. Tiga sekolah yang disurvei menjadi lokasi program ini, yaitu SDN 07 Sungai Kakap, SDN 20 Sungai Kakap, dan MIS Miftahussalam yang berada di Desa Punggur Kecil, Sungai Kakap, Kubu Raya. Dua kegiatan utama yang dilakukan di program ini adalah gotong royong membersihkan lingkungan sekitar desa dan mengenalkan pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menarik melalui mata pelajaran Bahasa. Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dilibatkan untuk membantu memberikan hasil yang optimal. Hasilnya, lingkungan sekolah menjadi bersih dan nyaman untuk siswa dan guru untuk belajar. Selain itu, siswa juga berpartisipasi dalam pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan yang tidak hanya dapat membuat siswa lebih menyukai Bahasa Inggris tetapi juga membantu siswa untuk melihat proses belajar bisa sangat menyenangkan untuk diikuti pada masa transisi pasca pandemic Covid-19.

Abstract

This research aimed to find how the implementation of podcast for informative public speaking skill and to find out the students responses toward the implementation of podcast in informative public speaking skill of English Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. This research used a case study approach. To obtain the data, the researcher used observation technique and direct commmunication technique, they were observation checklist and interview as tools of data collection. The subject of this research was the second semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. To analyze the data, researcher used in this research was descriptive narrative. This technique is determined through three steps, Data Reduction, Data Display, and Conclussion (Miles and Huberman, 1984) from the results of observation checklist and interview.Implementing the podcast have advantages to students, one of them when the practice students of podcast can help improve students' english skills, especially in the speaking. The activities by video live podcast support the advantages of the implementation of podcast in public speaking course, and implementation of podcast in public speaking course is important to speak more fluently and comfortably, practice public speaking, train self-confidence, and can be useful for public speaking in the future, so students can get a more personal learning experience and confidence in doing public speaking. It could be the reason that using podcast to teach students how to speak English would improve their speaking skill.Keywords: Podcast, Public Speaking Skill, Informative, Second 2nd Semester.

Abstract

The use of media in teaching-learning process becomes a tool of communication between teachers and students. Learning style is not only centered on the teachers, but it concerns on various aspects. Those aspects are transferred into media. Teachers are not the source in learning, yet the teacher should be able to create a media. This research and development are aimed to describe the development of Bahasa and the suitability of the quality for media in teaching Bahasa. This development followed seven steps including 1) researching and collecting data, 2) planning, 3) initial product development, 4) initial trial, 5) revision, 6) field trial, 7) revision and completion of product. The research instruments were interview and questionnaire. The need analysis indicated that the subject needed real media with an interesting color. Another result showed that the media product for teaching Bahasa can be appropriately used by the children with special needs. Therefore, it can be concluded that media for teaching - learning Bahasa for deaf students in one of special needs school in Pontianak is applicable as a media in schools.

Abstract

AbstractThis study has two primary objectives: firstly, to assess the efficacy of the Anagram Technique in enhancing vocabulary mastery, and secondly, to establish its significance in vocabulary development for eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Sungai Kunyit. applying a quantitative approach along with the pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest design, the research involved 32 eighth-grade students, comprising 18 males and 14 females from SMPN 5 Sungai Kunyit. Data collection utilized essay tests for both pre-test and post-test assessments. The gathered data underwent analysis using descriptive statistics in SPSS version 16.0. The researcher implemented data distribution, performed a paired sample t-test for hypothesis testing, and included Cohen's effect size to evaluate the Anagram Technique's impact on vocabulary mastery.The research findings indicated the effectiveness of the Anagram Technique, as demonstrated by significant mean score differences before and after treatment (64.63 and 88.94, respectively). The lower standard deviation of the pre-test (8.36) compared to the post-test (6.72) suggested successful treatment implementation. This success was further supported by the paired sample t-test in SPSS 16.0, revealing a notable result (Sig. 0.000) at an alpha level of 0.05. Consequently, the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) occurred since the significance value (Sig) was below ?. Furthermore, the calculated effect size using Cohen's method (1.61) emphasized a substantial impact of the Anagram Technique on enhancing vocabulary mastery. In summary, the analysis results collectively affirmed that the Anagram Technique was an effective pedagogical approach for cultivating vocabulary proficiency among eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Sungai Kunyit.
