Abstract

Argumentation skills as a form of communication to externalize ideas through scientific discourse is a very important in learning of science. As an integral part of the science, argumentation skills should be integrated as a component of learning science. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of argument driven inquiry-based module in enhanching the students’ argumentation skills. This study was conducted at one of the State Senior High School in Surakarta academic year 2016/2017. The pre-test and post-test research pattern with treatment and control class groups were used throughout the study. While the treatment group taught by using module based on argument-driven inquiry, the control group was taught by a module that commonly used in the school. As the study concluded, using argument driven inquiry-based module in the learning process is effective to enhance the quality of students’ argumentation skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the characteristics and feasibility of high school students problem solving skills assessment on Biology. This research is using Research Development model which refers to Borg Gall. Assessment developed are open-ended cases. Product validation conducted by subject matter and evaluation experts. Test involving 88 students from three different schools. Data from the field test were analyzed using the Quest program. Assessment  components that have been developed includedskills to defining the problem, checking the problem, planning a solution, implementing the plan, and evaluate.The study shows that the assessment instrument has a validity that fit with the Rasch model and high reliability. The final result that 13 % items were easy, 41,7 % items were moderate, and 46,3 % items were categorized as difficult. Discriminationindex in each item have a minimal interpretation of "sufficient"

Abstract

 The purpose of this research was to analyze the biology materials of the eleventh grade on the material of the human excretion system on the potential of empowering students' communication skills in one of the Senior High School in Madiun Regency. The research uses the descriptive method. The Technique of collecting data with teaching material is observed potency of empowering its communication skill directly based on communication skill assessment instrument covering twelve indicators which are divided on the four aspects namely expression aspect, evaluation, response, and negotiation. The teaching materials that were analyzed included two biology books from two different publishers, especially the material of human excretion system in Basic Competence 3.9 and 4.9 from 2013 curriculum. Data analyzed uses descriptive quantitative analysis. The result of analysis shows that the potential of empowerment of communication skill in teaching materials is still low, it’s indicated by the low of indicator and the low percentage of indicator that emerged, from the twelve indicators only four indicators that emerged: the first indicator 27,3%, the third indicator 18,2%, the eighth indicator 27,3%, and the twelfth indicator 27,3%. Based on the results of the analysis can be concluded that the biology materials eleventh grade on the material excretion system used in one of the Senior High School in Madiun Regency has not the potential to empower students' communication skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis asesmen dalam bahan ajar biologi terhadap potensipemberdayaan kemampuan berkomunikasi siswa kelas XI salah satu SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Madiun.Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif. Asesmen yang dianalisis meliputi soal pilihan ganda dan essaydalam bahan ajar biologi kelas XI dari dua penerbit yang berbeda pada materi sistem ekskresi manusia.Analisis asesmen dalam bahan ajar terhadap potensi memberdayakan kemampuan berkomunikasimenggunakan 12 indikator penilaian kemampuan berkomunikasi. Analisis data secara deskriptif kuantitatif.Hasil analisis asesmen dalam bahan ajar didapatkan kemunculan 12 indikator yang meliputi 1) deskripsidata berbagai cara 0%, 2) deskripsi hubungan data 42,86%, 3) memaknai data berbagai cara 14,29%, 4)melihat isi materi dari berbagi sudut pandang 0%, 5) menunjukkan kebenaran data 0%, 6) membedakanfakta dan kesimpulan 0%, 7) mengklarifikasi pernyataan 0%, 8) memastikan pernyataan teman 0%, 9)merespon pernyataan teman 0%, 10) memisahkan ide 14,29%, 11) memperbaiki pendapat berdasarkanmasukan teman 0%, 12) menarik kesimpulan dari berdiskusi 28,56%. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa asesmen dalam bahan ajar biologi kelas XI belum memberdayakan kemampuanberkomunikasi siswa dengan optimal. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disarankan perlu adanyapengembangan asesmen yang memiliki potensi pemberdayaan kemampuan berkomunikasi siswa.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see the effectiveness of the GIL-based human digestive system unit learning to improve students' creative thinking skills. The study used a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design which was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic by distance learning. The research subjects were junior high school students in class VIII even semester of the 2020/2021 academic year which were divided into 2 classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. The results of this research and development stated that the GIL-based human digestive system unit learning can improve students' creative thinking skills. The results of the independent sample t-test from the gain score of the experimental class and the control class obtained significance of 0.000, meaning that there was a difference between the score before and after the unit learning was given, so it can be concluded that the use of GIL-based learning unit was effective for improving students' creative thinking skills. The total effect caused by the use of GIL-based learning units was carried out using an effect size analysis with cohen’s d of 1.01, which implied that the GIL-based unit learning had a great influence in improving students' creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis berpikir ilmiah siswa SMA Negeri kelas XI IPA di kawasan pegunungan Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY). Jenis penelitian adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan tes kemampuan berpikir ilmiah yang terdiri dari 25 item soal yang mengandung aspek berpikir ilmiah yaitu: (1) inquiry; (2) analisis; (3) inferensi; dan (4) argumentasi dan pengambilan data lainnya dengan wawancara. Penelitian dilakukan di SMA Negeri 1 Pakem dan SMA Negeri 1 Girimulyo kelas XI IPA kawasan pegunungan Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Keseluruhan jumlah populasi yaitu 280 siswa dengan jumlah sampel 78 siswa. Pemilihan sampel menggunakan metode cluster random sampling. Data yang diperoleh selanjutnya diuji menggunakan statistik deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perolehan pada masing-masing aspek yaitu: (1) inquiry: 43% ; (2) analisis: 44% ; (3) inferensi: 42% ; dan (5) argumentasi: 55%. Hasil persentase menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir ilmiah masih kurang optimal karena rata-rata perolehan masih di bawah 50%. Hal ini disebabkan sebagian besar kemampuan berpikir ilmiah siswa di kawasan pegunungan DIY masih kurang dioptimalkan. Daerah pegunungan merupakan faktor yang berpengaruh langsung terhadap kemampuan berpikir ilmiah siswa.Scientific thingking skill analyze of students' XI IPA at mountainous region of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. This study aims to analyze the scientific thinking of students of the eleventh grade of science class high school in the mountainous areas of Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). This type of research is qualitative descriptive. Data collection was carried out using a scientific thinking ability test consisting of 25 items containing scientific thinking aspects: (1) inquiry; (2) analysis; (3) inference; and (4) argumentation and other data collection by interview. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Pakem and SMA Negeri 1 Giriulyo in 11th grade of science class in the mountainous areas of Special Region of Yogyakarta. The total population is 280 students with a total sample of 78 students. Sample selection using cluster random sampling method. The data obtained are then tested using descriptive qualitative statistics. The results of the study show that the acquisition of each aspect: (1) inquiry: 43%; (2) analysis: 44%; (3) inference: 42%; and (5) argumentation: 55%. The percentage results indicate that the scientific thinking ability is still less than optimal because the average acquisition is still below 50%. This is because most of the scientific thinking abilities of students in the DIY  mountainous areas are still not optimized. Mountainous areas are factors that directly influence the ability of students to think scientifically.

Abstract

This research is to know the effect of biology-based inquiry learning to the improveof students critical thinking skillsin State Senior High School 1 Sembalun on academic year 2017/2018.The research was done in State Senior High School 1 Sembalun and sample on research is class X of IPA toward 29 students. Instrument use in this reseach was essay test. Based on research result show gotten a score of pretest average value is 61.66 and a score of critical thinking skills posttest is 80.86, while average value of gain is 0,51 with a middle category. The research can be concluded that biology-based inquiry learning influence improve of students critical thinking skill in class X of IPA.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) Develop an integrated Inquiry-based Biology module integrated with Islamic Science to improve the religious behavior of grade XI high school students. (2) Knowing the feasibility of the Science-based Biology Inquiry module in Islamic-based Schools. This type of research is research and development by using a modification of the Four-D Model (4-D Model) which consists of 4 stages, namely: defining, designing, developing, and distributing (developing) disseminate). Qualitative data were obtained from observations and questionnaires, while quantitative data were obtained from the results of the module validation, questionnaire assessments in product trials (limited trials and extensive trials), operational trials and questionnaires on Islamic knowledge of Islamic cuisine. The results of this study indicate that: (1) the validation of Biology and Qur'an material experts and Hadith are in very reasonable criteria (88.5%); (2) media validation in the criteria is very feasible (90%); (3) language validation in the criteria is very feasible (93.75%); (4) learning device validation (95.31%). The results of the assessment of education practitioners are 88.01 and colleagues 90.71, which means the module is very feasible to use. In conclusion, Digestion System Module based on Inquiry integrated  Islamic Science for Class XI High School is proper to be used as a support for the learning of the Digestive System in an Islamic-based school environment

Abstract

There are problems in SMP Negeri 8 Surakarta where student’s critical thinking skills are still low and need to be improved. Thissresearch and development.aims to find.out the effectiveness of lesson.plan integrated.STEM in material temperature and its changes to improve student’s critical thinking. This research using 4D.research procedure by Thiagarajan. Phase 4D consists of defining,.designing,.developing, and disseminating. The subjects of the study were class VII in odd semester 2021/2022 academic year in SMP Negeri 8 Surakarta which were divided into 2 classes, namely the experimental class and the control class by using a sampling technique that was simple random sampling. Data analysis in this research was analysis of improvement of critical thinking skill through N-gain test. The results shows that theelesson plan integrated STEM is effective in improving critical thinking skills because the average of experimental.class is.higher thannthe control class.

Abstract

Board games are one of the supporting tools for understanding complex material and abstract scientific concepts This study aims to develop a board game with cell membrane transport material and test the board game response by experts. This study is research and development. This board game was developed for class XI science students using learning progression. The research design used was adopted by Arnel A. Gutierrez's research. The steps used in this study include the preparation stage, game development, and response testing by experts. Test responses are carried out by distributing questionnaires to validators /experts using Google Form. The questionnaire assesses the content, instructions, appearance, and design of the media. Analysis of the validity of the instrument with five options using a Likert scale, given four choices between ranges of disagreeing, disagree, agree, and strongly agree. The results of data analysis using a ranking scale Rasch model may indicate that the validity of the score of the selected respondents indicated that the average value of observations shows a significant difference starting from logit -0.32 for selection score of 1 (disagree), and 0.96 for the selection quite agree, 2.58 for the agreeable choice and 5.69 for the strongly agree choice. Between these options, there is an increase in logit, which indicates that the scale on the questionnaire used is good. The Andrich Threshold average value starts from the value of none, negative -3.54 to positive 4.17 indicating that the answer option from the respondent is valid, which means the board game can be used.
