Abstract

Stunting is a public health problem that is associated with an increased risk of morbidity, death, and barriers to motor and mental growth (Rahmadhita, 2020). The incidence of stunting has increased from year to year. Global data shows that the incidence of stunting in 2018 is estimated at 21.9% or 149 million children under 5 years of age, while in Southeast Asia there are 14.4 million children under 5 years of age experiencing stunting. The aim of this research is to find out the relationship between knowledge about colostrum and the incidence of stunting at the Garuda Pekanbaru health center. This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The research population was all mothers who brought their toddlers to the Garuda Health Center, with a sampling technique using the accidental sampling method of 225 samples. This research was carried out at the Garuda Community Health Center from June to December 2023. The instruments used were a questionnaire and height measurement. Data collection techniques involve approaching respondents to obtain their consent as research objects. Data was collected through a questionnaire regarding demographic data and history of breastfeeding, followed by observation of the child's height adjusted for age using a z-score table. Based on the chi-square statistical test, a value of p=0.000 was obtained, which shows that there is a relationship between knowledge about the benefits of colostrum and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. It is recommended that mothers exclusively breastfeed according to the child's nutritional needs to prevent stunting. Key words: Toddlers, Colostrum, Stunting

Abstract

During the postpartum period, changes occur in the reproductive organs, including the uterus, cervix, vagina, perineum and pelvic organ muscles. In the uterus, several changes occur starting from uterine involution, contractions, afterpains, regeneration of the placenta and expulsion of the lochea from the birth canal. During the postpartum period, the process of uterine involution will take place, the process of shrinking the uterus until it returns to its original size or before pregnancy. Normally after the tenth day the uterus is no longer palpable, but if up to 2 weeks after delivery the uterus has not yet entered the pelvis, subinvolution should be suspected. The use of bengkung is considered to provide many benefits for the recovery process of postpartum mothers by the community. Traditionally, the use of bengkung (stagen) can slim down a stretched stomach, especially for women after giving birth. This is due to pressure in the abdominal cavity so that it can help the uterus contract to its original shape. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of using bengkung on uterine involution in postpartum mothers. This research uses a preexperimental research design with a one group pretest and posttest research approach. The sample in this study consisted of 15 postpartum mothers. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate using the Wilcoxon pretest-posttest test. The results of data analysis obtained a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05) which indicates that Ha is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the use of bengkung on uterine involution in the working area of the Siak Hulu II Kampar Community Health Center. It is recommended for mothers to use bengkung as a process to tighten the abdominal muscles and help speed up the recovery of the uterus to its original shape

Abstract

Introduction Infants frequently experience sleep disturbances, such as sleeping for less than 8 hours and waking up three times during the night, each time staying awake for more than an hour. One approach to address sleep problems in infants is baby massage. Baby massage is a non-pharmacological method used to manage sleep disorders in infants. An effective stimulus to help infants sleep more soundly is massage combined with the use of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy works by dispersing fragrant molecules into the air and stimulating the central nervous system, which helps the infant fall asleep more easily. Objective This study aims to determine the effect of baby massage using lavender aromatherapy oil on the sleep quality of infants aged 6–9 months. Method This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 30 infants aged 6–9 months who were experiencing sleep disturbances. Data were collected through observation and questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. Results The results showed that baby massage using lavender aromatherapy oil in infants aged 6–9 months had a significant effect on improving sleep quality, with a p-value of 0.000. Conclusion It can be concluded that baby massage using lavender aromatherapy oil in infants aged 6–9 months positively affects the quality of infant sleep

Abstract

ABSTRACT   Parenting style refers to the way parents treat, educate, guide, and discipline their children to support their maturation process and help them internalize societal norms. Disruptions in fine motor development can lead to learning difficulties, developmental delays, and growth that is not age-appropriate. According to 2020 data from the World Health Organization (WHO), 15–20% of preschool-aged children experience fine motor development disorders. In Riau Province, in 2022, about 5–10% of preschoolers were reported to have delayed fine motor development. This study aims to determine the relationship between parenting styles and fine motor development in preschool-aged children (5–6 years). This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational analytic design using a cross-sectional approach. The instruments used were questionnaires and the Pre-Screening Developmental Questionnaire (KPSP). The population consisted of 52 individuals, with a sample size of 36 respondents. The results showed a p-value of 0.006 (< α 0.01), indicating a significant relationship between parenting styles and fine motor development in preschool-aged children (5–6 years) at TK Islam Masjid Raya, Pekanbaru City. Conclusion The majority of the respondents practiced a democratic parenting style (19 respondents or 52.8%), and 14 children (38.9%) were found to have normal fine motor development.
