This paper is to discuss the psychological aspects in the novel which is written by Yukio Mishima entitled The Temple of the Golden Pavilion which is translated into English by Ivan Morris and published at the first time in English translation in 1959. The Temple of the Golden Pavilion is one of the literary products which were written by Yukio Mishima that got its popularity among readers around the world since it has been translated into English. The Temple of the Golden Pavilion has several important psychological aspects that might be important to be analyzed since the psychological aspects are necessary to comprehend deeper about how and why the heroin behaves like what is written in the novel.

This study discusses about both Fitzgerald’s works entitled The Great Gatsby as a novel (1926) and Winter Dreams (1922) as a short story. These works talk about a man who is originally from low social status but try to pursue his dream to be rich in purpose to get the women that he loves. The purposes of this study are to know the reason of why Gatsby and Dexter eager to be rich and being successful financially, and whether their reasons to be rich relate to economic power and class struggle in the context of Marxist criticism that had been proposed by Karl Marx or not. This also aims to know whether or not American society at that time gave contributions regarding Gatsby’s and Dexter’s action in pursuing their dreams for being rich as what had been depicted by Fitzgerald. This study is a descriptive qualitative study and uses library research and document study. At the end, this study found that both of The Great Gatsby and Winter Dreams that Fitzgerald wrote had the same theme regarding the social status and economic power. Although these two literary works had a difference where Gatsby believed that he would be able to get Daisy when he became rich and Dexter knew that he might not be able to be with Judy because of his low social status, but after all, these works of Fitzgerald both carried a lot of social status and economic power issues which had been highly talked in 1920s.Keywords: The Great Gatsby, Winter Dream, Marxism, American Dream. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini membahas dua karya sastra karya Fitzgerald yang berjudul The Great Gatsby yang merupakan sebuah novel (1926) dan Winter Dreams (1922) yang merupakan cerita pendek. Kedua karya ini menceritakan tentang seorang pria yang sebelumnya berasal dari kalangan kelas ekonomi rendah tapi mencoba untuk menggapai mimpinya untuk menjadi kaya dengan tujuan untuk mendapatkan wanita yang dicintainya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui alasan mengapa Gatsby dan Dexter ingin sekali untuk menjadi kaya dan mapan secara ekonomi, dan apakah alasan mereka untuk menjadi kaya berhubungan dengan kekuasaan ekonomi dan perjuangan kasta dalam konteks kritik Marxist dari Karl Marx atau tidak. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah masyarakat Amerika pada periode tersebut memberikan konstribusi terhadap perlakuan dari Gatsby dan Dexter dalam menggapai mimpi mereka untuk menjadi kaya seperti apa yang digambarkan oleh Fitzgerald. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dan menggunakan penelitian pustaka dan analisis dokumen. Akhirnya, penelitian ini mendapati bahwa The Great Gatsby dan Winter Dreams yang ditulis oleh Fitzgerald mempunyai tema yang sama terkait status sosial dan kuasa ekonomi. Dua karya ini punya sebuah perbedaan dimana Gatsby percaya bahwa dia akan mendapatkan Daisy jika dia menjadi kaya dan Dexter mengethaui bahwa dia tidak akan pernah mampu untuk bersama Judy dikarenakan status sosialnya. Secara spesifik, kedua karya dari Fitzgerald ini sama-sama membawa banyak permasalahan dan isu sosial terkait pengaruh kuasa ekonomi yang banyak diperbincangkan pada tahun 1920an. Language practice through direct communication will develop students’ English Communication Skills especially when they practice it with native English speakers. This study aims to find students’ level of interest in performing Tourist Hunting Project (THP) and the effectiveness of THP in improving students’ English Communication Skills (ECS). This study is a quantitative study by using SPSS 16 to calculate data from questionnaires and using Likert scale which is proposed by Pallant to interpret data. There are two types of questionnaires for this study. The first consisted of 5 questions to measure students’ level of interest in performing THP. Those were filled in by respondents before performing the THP while the second ones which consisted of 10 questions to measure the effectiveness of THP in improving students’ ECS were filled in after THP was performed by respondents as the requirement of passing a specific subject. The first finding showed point of 3.76 in the measurement of students’ interest in performing THP. This point is indicated as high based on a Likert scale. Thus, this study perceives that respondents were interested in performing THP. The second finding of this study showed the point of 3.65 which showed that the effectiveness of THP in improving students’ ECS is categorized high and respondents expressed positive attitudes towards THP in achieving their goals to improve their ECS.

This paper is to discuss the “Orientalism” in The Tale of Genji as world literature through the translations of The Tale of Genji that had been translated into English by the Westerns. The popularity of The Tale of Genji cannot be separated from the important role of the translation. The English translations of The Tale of Genji had become a tool for the people surround the World to enjoy reading The Tale of Genji although they cannot speak or read Japanese. We cannot take lightly the role of translation. Regarding to the translation issue, it is also important to know closely about the translators’ perspective towards The Tale of Genji. Since the major translators of The Tale of Genji are Western, it is imperative to know Westerns’ perspectives towards Easterns since The Tale of Genji came from Asian. With the purpose to resolve this case, the analysis of this paper uses Orientalism as its theoretical concept in examining the Westerns’ perspective towards The Tale of Genji through the translation. This paper also examines how the translations of The Tale of Genji could be easily received as the world literature.

This research studies the position of Indonesia literature as a component of literature which can also be categorized as world literature. Due to the fact that Indonesian is sometimes underestimated because its identity as third world nation and this sometimes impacts the way of how foreign researchers value Indonesian’s intellectual products such as Indonesian literature, it is necessary to evaluate Indonesian position in world literature. This research is a qualitative study since it has conducted a library research and it has been completed through document analysis. This study uses Damrosch’s theory of world literature’s characteristics in order to check and to find out whether Indonesian literature can be categorized as world literature or not. Indonesian literary works that have been used as the objects of analysis for this study are Sangkuriang, Mahabharata, and literary works that have been written by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. At the end of this study, it has concluded that Indonesian literature fulfilled the three main characteristics of world literature that have been classified by Damrosch and is able to be categorized as world literature. This clearly demonstrates Indonesian clear position in world literature and also shows that Indonesian literature deserves to be categorized as world literature.

This study aims to find out whether ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) really helps EFL teachers in Kotamobagu to improve their students’ English ability. This study uses the teachers’ perceptions as the main sources to answer the research questions of this current study. It focuses on finding the EFL teachers’ knowledge level in implementing ICTs, the level of ICT implementation for educational purposes, and problems that teachers might face during ICT implementation in the classrooms. This study uses mixed method of quantitative and qualitative approach by using questionnaire and interview to gain the data. The findings show that in general, teachers have fair capability in using ICTs. They also have positive attitude towards ICT implementation where they claimed that ICTs are useful to improve students’ learning achievement. The teachers use ICTs for various reasons and at the last this study found that lack of ICT facilities has become the main problem that they often face.

This study aims to know students’ perceptions on the role of Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang (MLBB) as the medium to learn English. This study explores MLBB as a possible training center where all skills which are necessary to learn English such as vocabulary, listening, reading, writing and speaking had been learned through the process of playing the game. This study uses quantitative and qualitative methods where questionnaire and interviews are employed to find the answers for all research questions. The respondents of this study were 31 freshmen students in STMIK Multicom Bolaang Mongondow who took Information Technology as their major. This study found that the majority of respondents perceive MLBB as an effective medium to learn English. 58.1% claimed that MLBB enriched their vocabulary, 61.3% claimed that MLBB helps them in listening practice, 58.1% claimed that they can read and spell English well after playing MLBB, 48.4% claimed that MLBB helps them in writing, and 67.7% claimed that MLBB helps improving their English pronunciation and speaking skill.

This study is comparative study which compares Jane Eyre and the Great Gatsby by using Genetic Structuralism. These two novels were written and published from different period. Different period commonly produces different culture, tradition, habit, work, creation, effort, and even different masterpiece. Most people claim that as the time goes by, the old ones will be replaced by the youths, and everything which had been done in the past, might not be done anymore in the present or even in the future. In fact, it is necessary to dig more about the history itself to know how the people at particular period live and how they contribute a society. This study is compiled as a research to study about the characteristic of the society when the novels has been published and the period when the author of the literary works lived while mainly discussed about how different periods create different kind of stories. It also mainly focuses to take a glance on how society impacts the authors’ thought and perception to create such literary works.
