Abstract

Abstract        The purposes of this study were (1) to know the structures of procedure text written by the third semester students of Culinary Department in the State Polytechnic of Balikpapan, (2) to know the students’ development in writing the procedure text assessed through portfolio. The design of this study was a descriptive of qualitative design. The researcher involved 15 students from 28 Diploma Students of the third semester of Culinary Department of the State Polytechnic of Balikpapan in order to get their data or documents of procedure text writing results. The source data were taken from the writing results based on four topics given. The findings of this study showed that (1) there were four structures of procedure text written by the students, they were goal, ingredients/ materials, steps/ procedures, and evaluation, (2) there were any changes of the students’ writing product after assessing through portfolio assessment developmentally. It can be compared from the students’ writing between the first draft and the final draft for each topic given in which the aspects of writing process, organizational features, language features and clarity of writing found in the final draft have been stated and described effectively and meaningfully than the first draft written by the students. From the findings above, it can be implied that using portfolio assessment gave better result on the students’ ability in writing the procedure text.Keywords: Writing, Procedure Text, PortfolioAbstrak       Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk mengetahui struktur prosedur teks yang ditulis oleh mahasiswa semester ketiga Departemen Kuliner di Politeknik Negeri Balikpapan, (2) untuk mengetahui perkembangan mahasiswa dalam menulis teks prosedur yang dinilai melalui portofolio. Desain penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti melibatkan 15 mahasiswa dari 28 mahasiswa Diploma semester ketiga Program Studi Tata Boga di Politeknik Negeri Balikpapan untuk mendapatkan data atau dokumen dari hasil menulis teks prosedur mereka. Sumber data diambil dari hasil tulisan berdasarkan empat topik yang diberikan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) ada empat struktur prosedur teks yang ditulis oleh para mahasiswa, yaitu tujuan, bahan / material, langkah / prosedur, dan evaluasi, (2) ada perubahan dari produk menulis mahasiswa setelah menilai melalui penilaian portofolio perkembangan. Hal ini dapat dibandingkan dari menulis mahasiswa antara draft pertama dan draft akhir untuk setiap topik yang diberikan di mana aspek proses penulisan, fitur organisasi, fitur bahasa dan kejelasan tulisan yang ditemukan dalam draft akhir ini telah dinyatakan dan diuraikan secara efektif dan bermakna dari draft pertama ditulis oleh mahasiswa. Dari temuan di atas, dapat tersirat bahwa menggunakan penilaian portofolio memberi hasil yang lebih baik pada kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur. Abstract

The development of tourist villages is one of the strategic programs in national development, especially in the tourism sector. Good management of tourist villages will encourage the implementation of sustainable tourism and improve the community's economy. Although the management of the Teritip Tourism Village already has the legality from the tourism office of the Balikpapan City Youth, Sports and Tourism Office (Disporapar), they still have limitations related to governance and institutional management of the tourist village. Therefore, this village development program aims to strengthen the Teritip Tourism Village's governance and institutional management. The village development method in the Teritip sub-district includes counselling, technical skills (technical assistance / TA), and post-technical skills assistance (post-TA) in managing tourism villages. The results of this village development program produce outputs in the form of the availability of an organizational structure for the management of tourist villages and Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), along with their respective duties and functions. In addition, the results of the SWOT analysis of the tourism village management are used as a reference for the development of village development in the following year. This activity has implications for the tourism village manager assistance program model that focuses on strengthening governance and institutions.

Abstract

English language proficiency is generally measured by English competency scores such as TOEFL and TOEIC. To be able to apply the right learning patterns for students of Politeknik Negeri Balikpapan (Poltekba) for the purpose of mastering the TOEIC, an analysis of their English proficiency is needed by measuring their TOEIC scores. This analysis can be used as a reference for English lecturers in providing relevant learning materials according to the needs of the students and the industrial world. The research method used is qualitative-quantitative because it focuses on analyzing the TOEIC scores of the students. The researchers conducted analysis on the TOEIC scores as the data and explained them descriptively. The data used in this analysis are TOEIC scores from 291 students. The scores were mapped into 6 levels of English proficiency. The results of this study describe the level of English proficiency and the comparison between mastering Listening and Reading Comprehensions by the students at Politeknik Negeri Balikpapan.

Abstract

Salah satu Rukun Tetangga yang menjadi sentra pepaya yang ada di Kota Balikpapan adalah RT 19 Kelurahan Karang Joang Balikpapan Utara. Potensi buah pepaya mencapai 10 ton per bulan atau sekitar 140 ton per tahun. Lahan hasil pertanian pepaya terus bertambah 10 hingga 20 persen. Permasalahannya petani hanya menjual pepaya mereka dalam keadaan segar, bahkan banyak yang rusak dikarenakan panen yang terlalu banyak dan tak laku dipasaran. Masyarakat belum mengetahui pemanfaatan pepaya dalam pengembangan produk sehingga metode yang dilakukan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan masyarakat Karang Joang khususnya RT 19 yaitu melakukan sosialisasi dan pemberian materi terkait diversifikasi pangan. Hasil yang diperoleh dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini yaitu memberikan materi dan pemahaman kepada ibu-ibu wanita tani Cempaka 19 terkait pengolahan dari pepaya serta melakukan pelatihan pembuatan produk meliputi pembuatan abon dan pembuatan semprong pepaya, dan memberikan bantuan alat pengolahan untuk mendukung produksi ibu-ibu wanita tani Cempaka 19.

Abstract

Santriwati yang ada di Subulusalam berusia sekitar 13-17 tahun yang merupakan kategori remaja putri. Remaja putri sangat rentan mengalami anemia, karena mengalami masa pubertas yang berupa menstruasi dan padatnya kegiatan serta aktivitas fisik yang mereka lakukan. Hal tersebut bila tidak ditunjang dengan nutrisi yang baik akan memungkinkan terjadinya anemia pada santriwati. Bayam, hati, dan tempe mrupakan bahan makanan yang memiliki kandungan zat besi, dan banyak digunakan dalam membuat makanan yang digunakan untuk meningkatkan sel darah merah. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah memberikan penyuluhan dan pelatihan untuk membuat bahan olahan yang mengandung zat besi. Produk yang dibuat adalah nuget hati bayam dan bronies tempe wortel. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode survey langsung pada menu yang dikonsumsi santriwati yang dilakukan ke pondok pesantren Subulus Salam. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah santriwati Subulus Salam mendapatkan pengetahuan yang lebih mengenai anemia dan cara untuk mencegahnya kemudian pengelola makanan santriwati Subulus Salam dapat membuat produk makanan yang kaya akan zat besi yaitu nugget hati bayam dan bronies tempe wortel yang memiliki cita rasa yang khas dan bergizi.

Abstract

One of the Rukun Tetangga which is the center of papaya in Balikpapan City is RT 19 Kelurahan Karang Joang Balikpapan Utara. The potentials of papaya fruit reach 10 tons per month or around 140 tons in a year. Papaya agricultural land continues to grow 10 to 20 percent. The problem is that farmers only sell their papaya in a fresh condition, even many are damaged due to too much harvest and not sold in the market. The community does not know about the use of papaya in product development so that the method used to solve the problems of the Karang Joang community, especially RT 19, is to socialize and provide materials related to food diversification. The results obtained from this community service are giving material and understanding to the women of Cempaka 19 farming women regarding the processing of papaya and training in making products including making abon and semprong papaya, and providing assistance in processing equipment to support the production of women mothers Cempaka 19 farm.

Abstract

With the number of online transportation companies, there will be competition to attract consumer interest. Each company has its own way of introducing the products or services that they offer, from designing a logo that is used as a brand for the company until the features that can attract consumer interest. The use of Logo as a brand of the company is a point of identification; and symbols that customers use to identify their brand. Ideally, each company creates the logo so that it can directly connect consumers with the company. The purpose of this research is to dig out what is the meaning of logo or symbol of online transportation providers as the company's identity based on the colors and fonts used. Through a qualitative approach, data is obtained from a sample of logos issued officially from the largest online transportation service company in Indonesia, there are Gojek, Uber, Grab, and Maxim. The findings of this research is the Logo’s meaning of each online transportation providers represent their character based on font and color use. Most of them used wordmarks as the character and identity to be easily recognized by the public, and to convey brand attributes and brand positioning. The color that mostly used by the online transportation company is green and black as the dominant color as a symbol of their existence for tired people, means that they can be the solution for their movement, and also immovable, means that they are strong and undefeated. While font use by those company are sans serif and Egyptian, if we compare between the use of color and font, they have same purposes which shown as a symbol of strong and efficient.

Abstract

SMK Negeri 5 Balikpapan merupakan sekolah menengah kejuruan pelayaran pertama di Balikpapan, salah satu jurusannya yaitu Teknika Kapal Niaga (TKN) pada pelaksanaan bekerja di kapal pada posisi masinis kapal. Ada beberapa jabatan selain masinis yang tidak kalah pentingnya yaitu jabatan cook sehingga perlu diberikan pelatihan tambahan. Namun untuk dapat menempati posisi tersebut diperlukan multi disiplin ilmu sehingga mempunyai pengetahuan dan keterampilan cukup. Berdasarkan kurikulum yang ada di jurusan TKN tidak mencakup pada pembelajaran khusus untuk koki sehingga diperlukan pemberian pengetahuan dan keterampilan untuk melatih siswa belajar sambil berwirausaha, juga dapat membantu perekonomian orang tua, maka diperlukan cara yang lebih menumbuhkan jiwa wirausaha dengan pemberian pengetahuan dan keterampilan tambahan sehingga dapat berkontribusi di masyarakat dengan melakukan wirausaha. Metode yang digunakan observasi lapangan, sosialisasi pelatihan, persiapan alat dan bahan, pelatihan pembuatan makananan dan minuman, dan pendampingan. Dengan diberikan pelatihan pembuatan makanan dan minuman dapat menambang pengetahuan dan memberikan keterampilan kepada siswa untuk menerapkan edupreneurship sengan membuka angkring untuk berwirausaha di sekolah.

Abstract

The XYZ Balikpapan is one of the esteemed hotels in Balikpapan that is widely chosen by the community as a place for accommodation or events on certain occasions. Consequently, numerous room reservations are made, leading to full occupancy. Therefore, the XYZ Balikpapan Hotel requires a strategy for handling guest check-ins during peak occupancy. This research aims to explore the strategies employed by the XYZ Balikpapan Hotel in managing guest check-ins and the challenges encountered during peak occupancy. The research methodology employed in this study is descriptive qualitative research, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. In this research, there are stages of analysis, starting from data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions The findings of this study reveal several challenges faced by hotel guests during the check-in process at the XYZ Balikpapan Hotel. These challenges include guests waiting for rooms to be ready for occupancy due to frequent full occupancy, inadequate human resources for room cleaning, and sudden guest requests upon check-in. The XYZ Balikpapan Hotel addresses these challenges by implementing various strategies, including organizing exhibitions for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (UMKM), optimizing the kid's corner, fostering good cooperation between receptionists and housekeeping staff, providing welcome drinks and snacks, conducting courtesy calls, assigning room numbers in the system, preparing registration card forms, and providing room keys.
