Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the aspects that influence students' justification of the four types of arguments constructed by students, namely: inductive, algebraic, visual, and perceptual. A grounded theory type qualitative approach was chosen to investigate the emergence of the four types of arguments and how the characteristics of students from each type justify the arguments constructed. Four people from 75 students were involved in the interview after previously getting a test of mathematical argumentation. The results of the study found that three factors influenced students' justification for mathematical arguments, namely: students' understanding of claims, treatment given, and facts found in arguments. Claims influence the way students construct arguments, but facts in arguments are the primary consideration for students in choosing convincing arguments compared to representations. Also, factor treatment turns out to change students' decisions in choosing arguments, and these changes tend to lead to more formal arguments.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe students' digital literacy skills in STEM-based vector algebra courses using online learning. The participants in this study came from 30 students of the mathematics education study program at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with an instrument in the form of a digital literacy questionnaire using a likert scale. The results showed that the ability to do internet searching  indicators got a score of 77.50 with high criteria, the ability to use hypertext direction guides got a score of 77.50 with high criteria, the ability to evaluate information content got a score of 78.50 with high criteria, and the ability to compile knowledge got a score of 74.50 with medium criteria. The results of the indicator's average analysis showed that student digital literacy has an overall average of indicators with a score of 76.87 with high criteria. This study recommends the use of digital devices and STEM approaches in the learning proces

Abstract

This study was prompted by the challenge of low student autonomy in traditional education and the urgent need to foster self-regulated learning (SRL) through contextually relevant methods. It examined the effectiveness of a Culture-Integrated STEM–Flipped Classroom model in improving students’ SRL. Using a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design, students from intact classes were assigned to an experimental group receiving the culture-integrated STEM–Flipped intervention and a control group receiving conventional instruction. SRL was measured before and after the intervention, and improvement was evaluated through gain score analysis. Results showed that the experimental group achieved a substantially higher gain (M=13.28) than the control group (M=5.44). The magnitude of the intervention effect, calculated using Cohen’s d, was d=0.88, indicating a large effect. These findings demonstrate that integrating cultural values within a STEM-based flipped learning environment can significantly enhance students’ ability to plan, monitor, and regulate their learning processes. The study concludes that combining culturally meaningful learning contexts with structured pre-class preparation and active in-class STEM problem solving provides a powerful approach for strengthening SRL.
