Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is a serious and life-threatening neurological disease worldwide that has long been a major concern in the world health sector. Stroke has become a global health challenge and is a major cause of disability and death in many countries. Many studies highlight the risk factors that contribute to the occurrence of a first stroke attact, but there is a limited study that focuses on the factors that influence someone to experience a recurrence of stroke. Objective: To identify the factors that contribute and are the most dominant in the incidence of recurrence stroke. Method: This study is a descriptive quantitative study that employs observation methods and a cross-sectional approach, with data analysis conducted using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate techniques. Results: There are 152 recurrent stroke patients partisipated in this study. The accidental sampling technique was used to obtain potential respondents. Researchers found that out of the 10 factors that affect the chance of having a recurrence stroke, three are the most important. These are self-rehabilitation (P value = 0.000; OR = 58.843, CI = 7.0497–491.165), family support (P value = 0.027; OR = 0.931, CI = 0.8734-0.992), and taking medications as prescribed (P value = 0.031; OR = 0.670, CI = 0.4666-0.963). Conclusion: There are 3 factors that most dominantly influence the incidence of recurrent stroke, namely early rehabilitation, family support, and patient compliance in taking medication. Furthermore, enhancing patients' adherence to self-management poststroke requires social support from family, peers, and healthcare providers.

Abstract

Post-stroke patients tend to experience spiritual distress, characterized by seeking spiritual assistance and expressing excessive doubts about the meaning of life. The problems that arise in self-management among post-stroke patients are primarily caused by decreased independence and mobility, as well as inadequate family support, resulting in unmet patient needs and hindering their ability to manage themselves. To investigate the relationship between spirituality levels and self-management in post-stroke patients. This study employed a cross-sectional design involving 145 post-stroke patients selected through a convenience sampling technique. The study was conducted in June 2025 at Muhammadiyah Hospital Lamongan. The instruments used were the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) and the Southampton Stroke Self-Management Questionnaire (SSSMQ) (Cronbach's α 0.94 and 0.90, respectively). The data were analyzed using the Pearson test. The results showed a strong correlation between the level of spirituality and self-management (p = 0.000; r = 0.934), with the highest correlation observed two months after the stroke (r = 0.978). The higher the level of spirituality, the higher the self-management ability of post-stroke patients. These findings highlight the importance of spirituality in promoting self-management among post-stroke patients, thereby improving their quality of life and recovery.

Abstract

Stroke, often caused by hypertension, is the primary focus of this community service project. Knowledge about the care of post-stroke patients is crucial, including understanding proper positioning for turning, appropriate movement exercises, personal hygiene for patients, and special diets for stroke patients. This community service activity aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the people in Mayang Village regarding the care of post-stroke patients and to prevent complications in stroke patients. The implementation method used is a pre-experimental design with a multiple group pretest-posttest, consisting of (1) planning stage, (2) preparation stage, (3) implementation stage, and (4) evaluation stage. A quantitative approach is applied through pre-test and post-test surveys assessing the knowledge and attitudes of caregivers. The sample includes three caregivers of post-stroke patients and 17 congregants of Mushola Nur Hidayah in Mayang Village. Data were collected using questionnaires before and after educational sessions that included multidisciplinary education, simulations, and discussions. The analysis results indicate a significant improvement in the knowledge and attitudes of the people in Mayang Village regarding proper post-stroke patient care.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that is the main cause of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia, with a prevalence that continues to increase every year. The low level of public knowledge, especially the elderly, regarding risk factors, symptoms, and prevention of hypertension is a challenge in controlling this disease. Community service activities carried out by KKN Group 40 Students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta in Trosemi Village, Gatak District, Sukoharjo Regency, aim to increase the knowledge and awareness of the elderly about hypertension. The methods used include screening, pre-test, education, discussion, and post-test. The target of the activity is the elderly at the SidoMulyo Posyandu which is carried out through blood pressure checks, educational lectures using leaflets and posters, and hypertension exercises. The results of the activity showed an increase in participant knowledge after the activity, as evidenced by a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test values (p<0.05). This community service activity has achieved its goal of increasing the knowledge of the elderly in Trosemi Village who participated in the Lansia Posyandu activities at the Sido Mulyo Posyandu. This activity has proven effective in increasing the elderly's understanding of hypertension and is expected to contribute to behavioral changes towards a healthier lifestyle. It is recommended that similar programs be implemented sustainably and become part of routine activities at the integrated health post.

Abstract

Aims: To examine the effects of a diabetes self-care calendar on self-care activities, diabetes knowledge, and glycemic control in individuals with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.  Methods: This study used a randomized controlled trial design. This study employed a proportionate random cluster selection. The participants were blindly divided into intervention and control groups. The study was conducted at three community health centers in the region. The intervention group was provided with a Diabetes Self-Care Calendar (DSCC). The control group received conventional care. The summary of diabetes self-care activities and the diabetes knowledge questionnaire (Indonesian version) were used to assess the participants’ self-care performance and knowledge. The Infopia Clover A1c AnalyserTM was used to measure HbA1c levels. These variables were measured twice, at two months and four months after the intervention. A repeated-measures ANOVA and t-test were used to analyze the hypotheses. Results: A total of 126 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were enrolled in this study, which were equally divided into an intervention group and a control group. The results showed that the DSCC significantly (p<0.001) increased the diet, physical activity, self-monitoring of blood glucose, foot care, and medication adherence. The diabetes knowledge and HbA1c levels in the intervention group were significantly greater than those in the control group (p<0.001 and p=0.001), respectively. Conclusion: The diabetes self-care calendar enhances self-care activity adherence, knowledge, and HbA1c. As a reminder, the calendar obeys the pillars of diabetes self-care; it is an age-friendly and family empowered reminder and is usable.
