Abstract

The content of fish oil supplements is sufficient to fulfill the need of EPA and DHA, however adding nutritional value will be beneficial. This study was aimed to characterize the chemical content of the supplement from a combination of shark liver oil and Spirulina powder. The oil was extracted using dry rendering method at 50oC for 8 hours. The extracted oil was then combined with Spirulina powder with a concentration of 10; 30; and 50%. In general, the chemical characteristics of fish oil were affected by the addition of Spirulina plantesis. The fish oil with adddition of Spirulina 50% had the highest protein (24.3%) and essential amino acid content (but comparable DHA content. In conclusion, addition of Spirulina increased the chemical content of the fish oil, but reduced their fatty acid content.

Abstract

Spirulina is a microalga known as a superfood which contains high protein and is used in cosmetics, foods, and supplements industry. Collagen hydrolysate is the result of hydrolysis of collagen by protease. This study was aimed to determine the antioxidant activity and inhibition of tyrosynase from Spirulina, collagen hydrolysate and tablet formulated by combination of Spirulina and collagen hydrolysate. This research was conducted in three stages. The first stage was the extraction and hydrolysis of tilapia skin collagen, while the second stage was culturing and harvesting of Spirulina, and the third stage was determination of tablet formulation based on Spirulina and collagen hydrolysate followed by analysis of the antioxidant activity and inhibition of tyrosinase by selected tablet. Three formula with different ratio between Spirulina and collagen hydrolysates namely formula A (25%:53.75%), formula B (28.125%:50.625%), formula C (31.25%:47.5%) and additive such as vitamin C (12.5%), talk (1.25%), magnesium stearate (0.625%), aerosil (1.875%), avicel (5%) were developed. The result showed that formula A was the selected formula meeting the requirements of Ministry of Health based on the physical characteristics. The antioxidant activity of tablet A was 843 ppm and the tyrosinase inhibition was 163.56 ppm.

Abstract

Spirulina platensis and Herrmann's sea cucumber (Sticophus hermanii) are marine biota that known have many health benefits. One of the benefit is as an antioxidant. The antioxidant activity of S.hermanii dan S. platensis from another country has been studied, but the antioxidant activity of both materials from Indonesia and the mixture haven’t studied yet. The purpose of this study was to test the antioxidant activity and to identify bioactive compounds of methanol extraxt of S. hermanii from Flores, S. platensis from Jepara and the mixture using DPPH method. Measurement of antioxidant activity used DPPH radical as an oxidant. Identification of bioactive compounds used a qualitative phytochemical test. The results showed that methanol extract of S.hermanii, S. platensis and the mixtures have IC50 value of 2,696.09±329.28 ppm, 324.92±4.06 ppm and 2,445.80±164.18 ppm. The methanol extract of Herrmann's sea cucumber contains alkaloids, saponins and triterpenoid, meanwhile S. platensis methanol extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids and steroids. Based on tests, the methanol extract from Herrmann's sea cucumber, S. platensis and the mixtures had very weak antioxidant activity with IC50 values more than 200 ppm.

Abstract

Microalgae mampu menghasilkan berbagai senyawa aktif seperti antibakteri. Salah satu microalgae yang menghasilkan komponen antibakteri adalah Chaetoceros gracilis. Antibakteri adalah zat yang menghambat atau membunuh pertumbuhan mikroorganisme. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan mentah ekstrak Chaetoceros gracilis dan tes untuk aktivitas antibakteri. Chaetoceros gracilis dibudidayakan di buatan media dengan durasi berbeda pencahayaan dan dipanen pada budaya berbeda usia. Ekstraksi untuk antibakteri senyawa digunakan etanol. Ekstrak kasar C. gracilis yang dibudidayakan di berbeda pencahayaan durasi dan dipanen dalam budaya berbeda usia memiliki aktivitas antibakteri Bacillus cereus dan Vibrio harveyi. Kata kunci : Anti bakteri, Antifungal, bacillus cereus, chaetoceros gracilis, ethanol, fusarium oxysporum, dan Vibrio harveyi

Abstract

Secondary metabolites, are produced naturally and serve survival functions for the organisms that producing them. Endophytic fungi is the one of microorganism has a role in producing the secondary metabolites. Endophytic fungi TP6 and TPL2 isolated from coastal plant terong pungo (Solanum sp.). Endophytic fungi TP6 and TPL2 have secondary metabolite, including alcaloid, flavonoid, phenol hidrocuinon, and terpenoid compounds.

Abstract

The main challenges to overcome in biodiesel production from microalgae are lower oil yield, as compared to those derived from plant and animal biomass, and expensive culture media. This work was aimed to compare the effectivity of three extraction methods differed in solvent used, e.g. n-hexane (N-hex), ethanol (Eth), and mixture of chloroform-methanol-water (CMW), to extract crude lipid and biodiesel from dry biomass of Chlamydomonas sp. ICBB 9113. This microalgae was cultivated in a cheap culture media using N and P soil fertilizers as nutrient sources. The results showed that, by using N-hex, Eth, and CMW methods, it could be extracted, respectively, 0.06%, 4.51%, and 20.45% crude lipid, and 384.2, 1333.8, and 2430.6 mg/100g biodiesel. The fatty acid profile of the studied microalgae biomass was: C8:0 (0.11%), C10:0 (0.09%), C14:0 (7.70%), 16:0 (1.39%), C18:0 (0.85%), C14:1 (5.12%), C16:1 (7.09%), C18:1 (8.28%), C18:2 (12.80%), and C18:3 (42.57%). Fatty acid characterization showed that Chlamydomonas sp. ICBB 9113 was dominated by C18: 3 and C16:0. Therefore, these microlagae were suitable to be used as raw material for biodiesel production to substitute the conventional fuel.

Abstract

Caulerpa racemosa merupakan rumput laut hijau yang mengandung senyawa aktif yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri dan antioksidan. Perbedaan profil fitokimia dan bioaktivitas suatu ekstrak dapat dipengaruhi oleh kepolaran pelarut ekstraksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari profil fitokimia, aktivitas antibakteri, dan antioksidan ekstrak C. racemosa. Ekstrak diperoleh dari sampel segar C. racemosa yang dimaserasi menggunakan pelarut n-heksana, etil asetat, dan metanol. Uji antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode Resazurin Microtitter Assay (REMA) terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli dan Staphylococcus aureus. Aktivitas antioksidan diuji menggunakan metode 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) dan Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP). Hasil penapisan fitokimia memperlihatkan bahwa ekstrak n-heksana mengandung alkaloid dan triterpenoid, sedangkan ekstrak etil asetat dan metanol mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, fenol, dan steroid. Aktivitas antibakteri terbaik ditunjukkan oleh ekstrak etil asetat dengan nilai Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) terhadap E. coli sebesar 250 mg/mL. Ekstrak etil asetat C. racemosa juga memperlihatkan aktivitas antioksidan terbaik dengan nilai IC50 DPPH sebesar 110,7 mg/mL dan nilai FRAP sebesar 96,68 mmol Fe (II)/g. ABSTRACTCaulerpa racemosa is a green seaweed that contains active compounds that are potential for antibacterial and antioxidant. The phytochemical constituents and bioactivity of an extract could depend on the extraction solvent polarity. This study aimed to determine the phytochemical profiles, antibacterial, and antioxidant activity of C. racemosa extracts. Extracts were obtained from the fresh C. racemosa samples that were macerated with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. Antibacterial assay was tested by Resazurin Microtiter Assay (REMA) method against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Antioxidant activity was determined using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) methods. Phytochemical screening showed that n-hexane extract contained alkaloid and triterpenoid, while ethyl acetate and methanol extracts contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, phenols, and steroids. The most active extract in the antibacterial assay was ethyl acetate extract with a Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) value of 250 mg/mL against E. coli. Ethyl acetate extract of C. racemosa also showed the best antioxidant activity where the IC50 of DPPH value was 110.7 mg/mL and the FRAP value was 96.68 mmol Fe(II)/g.

Abstract

AbstrakSpirulina platensis merupakan sumber makanan organik  yang mengandung protein tinggi dengan asam amino yang seimbang. Spirulina juga memiliki kandungan senyawa aktif yaitu fikosianin dan flavonoid. Senyawa aktif tersebut pada umumnya memiliki aktivitas yang potential sebagai suplemen dan sediaan bahan aktif pada pangan fungsional. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kandungan fikosianin dan flavonoid dari mikroalga adalah nutrisi yang digunakan dalam media pertumbuhan sehingga perlu dilakukan kajian mengenai pengaruh komposisi media terhadap kandungan fikosianin dan flavonoid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan pengaruh variasi kandungan NaNO3 pada media pertumbuhan terhadap kandungan fikosianin dan flavonoid S. platensis; serta menentukan konsentrasi NaNO3 terbaik pada media Walne untuk menghasilkan biomassa S. platensis dengan kandungan fikosianin dan flavonoid  tertinggi. Penelitian ini terdiri dari 2 tahapan yaitu kultivasi S. platensis; dan ekstraksi fikosianin, flavonoid, dan komponen aktif lainnya. Kultur S. platensis menggunakan media Walne dengan variasi kandungan NaNO3 yaitu masing-masing sebesar 80, 100 dan 120 g selama 11 hari. Total protein dan nitrogen tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan 100 g NaNO3 masing-masing sebesar 44,30% dan 7,09%. Biomassa S. platensis setiap perlakuan NaNO3 mengandung flavonoid, steroid, fenol dan saponin. Konsentrasi dan rendemen fikosianin terbaik diperoleh pada perlakuan 80 g NaNO3 sebesar 1,32 mg/ml dan 32,93%.Total flavonoid ekstrak S. platensis tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan 80 g NaNO3 sebesar 16,56%. S. platensis terpilih adalah perlakuan NaNO3 80 g karena menghasilkan kandungan senyawa aktif flavonoid dan fikosianin tertinggi. ncentration. The Active Compounds of  Spirulina  platensis Grown on Walne Media with Different NaNO3 ConcentrationsAbstractSpirulina platensis is a source of organic foods that contain high protein with balanced amino acids. Spirulina also contains active compounds of phycocyanin and flavonoids. The active compound communly to have potential activities as supplement and functional food. One of the factors that affects the content of phycocyanin and flavonoids from microalgae is the nutrients used in growth media. So that it is necessary to study the effect of media composition on the content of phycochyanin and flavonoids. This study aimed to determine the effect of various concentrations of NaNO3 on growth media on the content of flavonoids and phycocyanin and determine the best NaNO3 concentration in Walne media that produce S. platensis biomass with the highest phycocyanin and flavonoid contents. This study was run in two steps that were cultivation of S. platensis and extraction of phycocyanin, flavonoid, and other active components. S. Platensis were cultured in Walne media with various NaNO3 concentrations that were 80, 100 and 120 g for 11 days. The highest total protein and nitrogen were obtained from 100 g NaNO3 treatment which were 44.30% and 7.09% respectively. The biomass of S. platensis for each of NaNO3 treatment contains flavonoids, steroids, phenols and saponins. The best concentration and yield of phycocyanin were obtained from the treatment of 80 g NaNO3 of 1.32 mg/ml and 32.93% respectively. The highest total flavonoids of S. platensis extract were obtained at 80 g NaNO3 treatment of 16.56%. The best treatment to grow S. platensis which produced highest active content of phycocyanin and flavoniud was gained from 80 g NaNO3 medium

Abstract

Suplemen makanan kesehatan di pasaran saat ini sebagian besar terdiri dari satu jenis bahan baku, sehingga berpotensi hanya memiliki satu manfaat. Spirulina diketahui memiliki kandungan protein tinggi tetapi kadar lemaknya rendah, oleh karena itu dilakukan penelitian tentang pembuatan tablet Spirulina dengan tambahan sumber lain untuk mendapatkan nutrisi lengkap dan seimbang yang sangat diperlukan. Naskah ini melaporkan formulasi Spirulina yang diperkaya dengan mikroenkapsulat virgin fish oil (VFO) mata tuna; yang terdiri dari tiga tahap, yaitu kultivasi Spirulina; preparasi, ekstraksi, dan mikroenkapsulasi VFO mata tuna (Thunnus sp.); serta formulasi tablet. Ada tiga formula dalam hal rasio Spirulina dan mikroenkapsulat VFO mata tuna, yaitu P1 (250:180 mg); P2 (200:230 mg); P3 (150:280 mg). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa formula P3 merupakan formulasi terbaik berdasarkan karakteristik fisik, aktivitas antioksidan (IC50 133,27 ppm), dan kadar lemak 14,67%. Tablet P3 memiliki proporsi asam amino arginin tertinggi (3,30%) dan asam dokosaheksaenoat (18,03%), serta dapat memenuhi 18,6% dari angka kecukupan gizi asam lemak omega-3 untuk wanita hamil trimester pertama. Formulation of Spirulina Supplement Tablets Enriched with Virgin Fish Oil From Tuna (Thunnus sp.)  Eyes AbstractHealth food supplements on the market today mostly consist of one type of raw material, so that potentially they only have one benefit. Spirulina is known to have a high protein content but a low fat content, therefore research on making Spirulina tablets with the addition of other sources to get complete and balanced nutrition is necessary. This paper reports the formulation of Spirulina enriched with tuna eye Virgin Fish Oil (VFO) microencapsulate; that consisted of three stages, namely Spirulina cultivation; preparation, extraction, and microencapsulation of tuna (Thunnus sp.) eye VFO; and tablet formulations. There were three formulas in regards to the ratio of Spirulina and tuna eye VFO microencapsulate, namely P1 (250: 180 mg); P2 (200: 230 mg); P3 (150: 280 mg). The results showed that the P3 formula was considered the best formulation based on physical characteristics, antioxidant activity (IC50 133.27 ppm), and fat content of 14.67%. The P3 tablet had the highest proportion of arginine amino acids (3.30%) and docosahexaenoic acid (18.03%) and can provide 18.6% of the nutritional adequacy rate of omega-3 fatty acids for the first trimester pregnant women.
