Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease is a condition where kidney has declining its function. It can cause a loss of physical capacity characterized by decreased body fitness, muscle strength and muscle endurance. Exercise programs to overcome the problem are still not common in dialysis clinics but there are several studies on exercise programs that have a positive effect on hemodialysis patients. Objectives: This study aimed to review aerobic and anaerobic exercise to enhance physical fitness for chronic kidney disease patients on hemodialysis. Design: The study design used was systematic review with using The Center for Review and Dissemination for writing guideline and the Joanna Briggs Institute Guideline for assessing the quality of summarized studies. Data Sources: Search for articles accessed through database, such as ProQuest, Scopus, Science Direct, SAGE, and PubMed with keywords: Chronic kidney disease, aerobic exercise, anaerobic exercise, physical function and hemodialysis. The literature was published 2015-2021. Review Methods: Joanna Briggs Institute Guidelines was used to assess the quality of the summarized studies. The presentation of the data will be done using descriptive techniques. Results: The result of this systematic review shows that both aerobic and anaerobic exercise have a significant result for chronic kidney disease patient who undergo hemodialysis therapy. But aerobic exercise had a long-term impact for patients than anaerobic exercise. Combination of aerobic (ergometer cycle) and anaerobic exercise (resistance training exercise) also show a significant effect for physical fitness. The mechanism for enhancing physical fitness is done by strengthen the body muscle. The side effect of exercise is found minimum in most of study. Conclusion: The combination of cycle ergometer exercise and resistance training exercise is one of the best exercises. The exercise could enhance the physical fitness by strengthen the muscle. The exercise could be done home based or intradialytic, but some articles state that intradialytic exercise is better than home based exercise.

Abstract

Islamic nursing still not fully implemented inIslamic hospitals. This study aimed to understand the Islamic patients’ worship experience.Method : The method used in this study was phenomenological study. Sample consisted 5 patients and 6 nurses who met inclusion criteria, recruited bypurposive sampling. This study was conducted at Haji General Hospital Surabaya and AisyiahIslamic Hospital Bojonegoroduring August to December 2013. Data were collected by interviewing respondents and analyzed using the seven step of qualitative data analysis by Collaizi.Result : The results showed that not all respondents conductIslamic worship during hospitalization, particularly the obligation performing prayers five times a day. This is due to physical weaknesses, and feel of uncleanliness. These conditionswere also weakened by the lack of spiritual nursing care by nurses. Nurses had provide patients with prayer time reminder, prayer kit,Qibla direction, wudoo kit, but nurses did not conduct Islamic caring assessment and nursing diagnosis. Moreover, spiritual nursing process was not documented because of the high workload.Discussion : Further discussion about Islamic nursing care and how it is fulfilled is needed. This can be about the best way to introduce worship to Moslem patients and how to perform it during illness. Nurses should also conduct a proper assessment about the patient’s spiritual needs and implementation of worshipand how they want these needs to be helped be nurses.

Abstract

Introduction: Asthma is a disease that often found in the community, according to the data from the World Health Organization in 2006, as many as 300 million people suffered from asthma and 225 thousand people died from asthma worldwide.Patients with asthma often use asthma exercise, pranayama yoga, deep breathing, Buteyko and upper body exercise as a way to help reduceasthma. Effectiveness of each of these exercises to improve expiratory lung capacity has not been identified. Methods: This study used quasi-experimental pre-post test design. The population consisted of 21peoples divided into 9 individuals each in Buteyko breathing exercises and upper body exercise. Samples were collected with purposive sampling. The independent variables were Buteyko exercises and upper body exercise, and the dependent variable was the peak expiratoryflow. Data were collected through the observation of peak expiratory flow using a peak flow meter. Data processing used T test with significance <0.05 and comparison of two techniques used independent T test with significance <0.05.Result: The result of T test analysis showed that p=0.000 indicating there was correlation between the two techniques in improving peak expiratory flow inbronchial asthma, and independent T test obtained p=0.078, indicating there was no difference between the two techniques in improving peak expiratory flow in bronchial asthma.Discussion: It can be concluded that Buteyko breathing exercises and upper body exercise has no different function in increasing the value of peak expiratory flow. In patients with bronchial asthma, can useone or both of the breathing techniques, because it has the same effectiveness to increase peakexpiratory flow in assisting the prevention of bronchial asthma.
