Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can attack anyone, including those who have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) due to low immune systems. This study aimed to evaluate the final condition of people living with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) (PLWHA) who received treatment at the hospital. Methods: A literature investigation of the last three years (2020-2022) were inquired. Electronic databases (Science Direct, Scopus, ProQuest) with case series or case report designs were examined. The titles, abstracts, and full texts were screened to obtain relevant studies. Data tabulation and narrative analysis were conducted, resulting in 14 studies that met the inclusion criteria. Most of them were case series and case report methods. Each study had different numbers of patients and criteria discussing COVID-19 infection in HIV patients. Results: A total of 14 reviewed studies revealed that HIV patients with COVID-19 could recover from the infection if proper treatments were performed. Some articles also stated that self-isolation at home can manage HIV-infected patients who are not yet severe. In the case of patients with severe infections, intensive care is performed using supplemental oxygen or a ventilator to prevent respiratory failure or acute respiratory distress. Conclusion: COVID-19 can worsen the condition of patients with HIV if not appropriately treated. Otherwise, if the proper treatment is properly performed, it can cure the infection.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of giving Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) to cancer patients. The method used is a systematic review using three databases: PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. The results showed that of the fourteen articles reviewed, thirteen articles showed that the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) could reduce the side effects of chemotherapy, increase self-confidence in physical, social, and body image functions, provide satisfaction with life, and reduce anxiety. , positive quality of life enhances hereditary resistance, improves well-being, and overcoming the disease. One article states that CAM users report more severe anxiety and skin or hair changes. In conclusion, some types of CAM have beneficial effects for some clients. Still, on the other hand, there are adverse effects without the client realizing that this therapy can be a source of chemicals that can interact with conventional drugs. Monitoring the patient's treatment consumption is necessary to avoid these side effects. Keywords: Alternative Medicine, Cancer Cell, Cross-Sectional, Complementary therapy, Quality of Life

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of compression therapy in varicose veins patients to reduce pain and increase wound healing after surgery. The method used was a systematic review using a checklist of protocols and rules (PRISMA) and a flowchart with the feasibility of studies assessed using the PICOT framework, searches using five databases, Science Direct, CINAHL, Scopus, SAGE, and ProQuest. The results showed that as many as ten articles were obtained discussing the effects of compression therapy in patients with varicose veins, with different discussions in each study bringing positive impacts. In conclusion, compression therapy is considered the most effective conservative treatment for varicose veins, which has been shown to benefit from several research results. Namely, compression improves the healing of varicose veins compared to no reduction. Still, compression therapy has not been proven to provide long-term effects—benefits for postoperative varicose veins patients to return to normal activities. Abstract

Rehabilitation exercises after hip or knee arthroplasty are indispensable in improving patient outcomes. In these pandemic years, reducing hospital visits and changing hospital-based rehabilitation to home-based exercise will provide a lucrative option for patients. This systematic review aims to provide an investigative analysis in the effectiveness of home-assisted technology-based exercises, such as web-based, mobile apps or video conferencing, in improving preoperative outcomes of hip or knee arthroplasty compared to conventional rehabilitation. The PRISMA method was used to conduct this systematic review, focusing on articles from 2017-2021. A literature search was performed on 4 databases: PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct and ProQuest. Search results with keywords: “Knee and/or Hip”, “Arthroplasty or Replacement” and “Tele-rehabilitation”, using all kinds of “Technology-Assisted” with the following criteria: High-Quality RCT Design, Q1-rated publisher in SJR is selected as inclusion criteria. We found 719 articles in our search, but only 8 articles with 1194 subjects met the inclusion criteria. Follow-up times for rehabilitation were grouped into short intervals of 7 articles, medium intervals of 4 articles and long intervals of 4 articles. There are 4 studies using mobile-app assisted technology, 1 research using a telephone, and 3 studies using web-based or video tele-rehabilitation. Home-assisted technology-based exercises are effective for improving patient outcomes after hip or knee arthroplasty, especially in reducing pain, increasing range of motion, activity daily living, self-motivation and compliance. This method has the same results as conventional hospital-based rehabilitation, while reducing hospital visits. Keywords: arthroplasty; rehabilitation exercises; technology based training ABSTRAK Latihan rehabilitasi setelah artroplasti pinggul atau lutut sangat diperlukan dalam meningkatkan luaran pasien.
