Abstract

The use of Qur'anic verses as descriptions in sales has been widely practiced by producers, including in the Shopee application. This verse aims to lead the message visually and contains religious elements, so the correlation between images can attract Muslim consumers. This qualitative research seeks to explore the variety of uses of Qur'anic verses in commercialization in Shopee, describe the forms of reception of Qur'anic verses used in Shopee as a commercialization tool, and explain the factors for using Quranic verses as a commercialization tool. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive analysis with a Sociology of Religion approach and one of Peter L. Berger's theories, Social Construction. The research data comes from observations on shop accounts that use Qur'anic verses, translations, and hadith meanings as descriptions. The results showed five forms of commercialization, including Al-Qur'an verses in memes, Al-Qur'an verses in descriptions, Al-Qur'an verses and Hadith in descriptions, Hadith in descriptions, Hadith in descriptions, and Hadith in pictures and descriptions. The typology of reception in this study is included in the typology of functional reception because the Qur’an was created for humans to respond and direct to specific goals, which eventually gave birth to a motivation to change attitudes and ways of acting in everyday life. This happens because of 3 background factors: the externalization factor is the process of self-adjustment, the objectification factor is the result of self-adjustment, and the internalization factor is when producers and consumers I'd appreciate it if you could understand the meaning in the meme.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss how John Wansbrough's thought views on the Qur'an, the influence of his thoughts in the study of the Qur'an and how other orientalists and Muslim scholars assess the results of his thinking. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review. The results of this study show that John Wansbrough is a controversial orientalist because of his opinion about the Qur'an which is skeptic-revisionist. He revealed that the Qur'an is a continuation of the Christian and Jewish traditions or nothing more than a copy or imitation of the bible. The Qur'an according to him is a literary work, besides that he also considers that the activity of copying the Qur'an into manuscript during the reign of Abu Bakar and Usman is just a fictitious. Wansbrough's view is the result of his study of the Qur'an through the analytical approach of literary and historical criticism, which is taken from the methods of criticism commonly used in criticizing the bibles. Many Western and Muslim scholars in responding to Wansbrough's thoughts criticize but some support him. Nonetheless, Wansbrough's methods and thoughts are enough to contribute to the development of critical methodology in the study of al-Qur'an studies and its interpretation.

Abstract

It has become vital in Western circles to discuss the study of the historical validity of the Qur'ān. Because it is considered unclear, it certainly originated from the main ideas of orientalists. Many Western scientists can position themselves when researching the Qur'an. The differences in views that occur among orientalists are due to generational dissimilarities. The difference that occurs is that there are outsiders in their research on the Qur'an departing from skepticism or doubt and not purely academic, so that it has the aim of discrediting Islamic teachings. One of the orientalist activists who had this attitude was John Wansbrough, who had doubts about the historicity of the Qur'ān. Thus, the purpose of this article is to explore everything related to the thoughts of John Wansbrough. This article uses the Library Research method, using journals and several other references in order to provide an explanation of orientalist figures, especially John Wansbrough. The results of this study reveal John Wansbrough's perspective and methodology in conducting studies on the Holy Qur'an.

Abstract

This article aims to provide a conceptual overview regarding orientalist thought towards the Koran which is in line with the thinking of Muslims in general. In this process, the authors apply qualitative data analysis based on library research through the steps of textual analysis and historical and dynamic contextual interpretation of orientalist thought which is in line with the thinking of Muslims in general. Through this analytical procedure, the author reveals that if the researchers previously examined non-Muslim orientalists who did not believe in the authenticity of the Al-Qu'an and the history of the revelation of the Qur'an. In contrast to the findings of the authors in this article, it shows that there are some non-Muslim orientalists who acknowledge the authenticity of the Qur’an and the history of the revelation of the Qur’an, although these thoughts are not immune to objections by orientalists or other scholars.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of nusyuz committed by husbands as presented in QS. An-Nisā’ [4]:128 through an analysis of Wahbah Az-Zuhaili’s interpretation in Tafsir al-Munīr and a comparison with the interpretations of al-Qurṭubī, Ibn Kathīr, and Quraish Shihab. This research employs a qualitative library-based method with analytical approaches integrating linguistic, historical, legal, and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah perspectives. The findings reveal that Az-Zuhaili defines nusyuz by husbands as a form of negligence, emotional withdrawal, indifference, and harmful behavior that violates the principle of al-mu‘āsyarah bil-ma‘rūf (harmonious marital conduct). His interpretation corrects the classical tendency to associate nusyuz primarily with wives. Compared to other exegetes, Az-Zuhaili offers a more comprehensive and contextually relevant synthesis by combining textual interpretation with socio-psychological analysis. The novelty of this study lies in emphasizing nusyuz as a reciprocal issue that may occur on either side of the marital relationship, and in highlighting reconciliation (ṣulḥ), justice, and dialogical approaches as key mechanisms for conflict resolution. The study implies the need for tafsir perspectives that are responsive to contemporary family dynamics and support women’s rights in cases of marital neglect. Future research is encouraged to explore female exegetical perspectives and to conduct empirical studies on the implementation of husband nusyuz in mediation practices and religious court proceedings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the founding ideas of Muhammadiyah, its organizational dynamics, and the periodization of its development from 1912 to the contemporary era, with particular attention to the movement’s educational orientation as a core instrument of social transformation. This research adopts a historical-sociological approach by examining primary and secondary sources relevant to Muhammadiyah’s intellectual roots, institutional practices, and socio-religious engagement. The findings indicate that the establishment of Muhammadiyah was driven by three major factors: colonial conditions that contributed to Muslim socio-educational marginalization, the persistence of syncretic religious practices within local communities, and the influence of Islamic reformist currents from the Middle East. Over time, Muhammadiyah has maintained ideological consistency in the spirit of tajdid through religious purification and the modernization of social services, particularly in the development of schools, universities, and community-based educational programs. Organizationally, Muhammadiyah demonstrates strong adaptive capacity in responding to political and social changes from the colonial era through independence, the New Order, and the reform and globalization periods. Its historical periodization shows that Muhammadiyah functions not only as a da’wah movement but also as a strategic actor in strengthening civil society, cultivating educated citizenship, and expanding international humanitarian diplomacy. Therefore, Muhammadiyah can be understood as a model of progressive Islamic movement that integrates religious orthodoxy with modern educational and social praxis within both national and global contexts.
