Abstract

Manusia memperoleh bahasa merupakan satu masalah yang unik dan perlu dibuktikan. Berbagai teori dari disiplin ilmu telah dikemukakan oleh para peneliti untuk menerangkan bagaimana proses pemerolehan bahasa di kalangan anak-anak. Salah satu perkembangan bahasa yang unik dialami anak adalah perkembangan sintaksis. Pada periode awal, anak menggunakan kalimat satu kata, kalimat dua kata, kalimat tiga kata, dan seterusnya sampai tahap kalimat lengkap strukturnya (agentaction-object-location). Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dengan mengamati subjek. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa subjek berada pada tahap yang sesuai dengan ketetapan Brown, yaitu subjek YFE dan GFB dengan MLU 1,4 dan 1,54. Namun, subjek AHM, SFZ, dan FNS berada di atas tahap yang ditetapkan Brown dengan MLU 2,96, 2,44, dan 2,72; subjek NLH, BRT, dan ZY berada di bawah tahap yang ditetapkan Brown dengan MLU 3,66, 2,68, dan 3,3.Human language acquisition is a unique problem and needs to be proven. Various theories have been advanced by researchers to explain how the process of acquiring language among children. One of the unique language developments experienced by children is the development of syntax. In the early period, the child uses a one-word sentence, two-words sentence, three-words sentence, and so on until the complete phase of the structure (agent-action-object-location). The method of data collection is done by observing the subject. The results show that some subjects are at the stage consistently with the Brown stipulations, namely the subject of YFE and GFB with MLU 1.4 and 1.54. However, the subjects AHM, SFZ, and FNS are above the established stage of Brown with MLU 2.96, 2.44, and 2.72; the subject of NLH, BRT, and ZY is below the established stage of Brown with MLU 3,66, 2,68, and 3,3.

Abstract

The result of the research ”Programme for International Student Assesment (PISA)” states that student reading interest get in 57th  position from 65 countries. It means that the students reading interest in Indonesia is still low. It will influence the ability of student reading comprehension  Like what happen in SMP Negeri 18 Padang. One of the way to solve this problem is CALLA strategy based on local wisdom. This  strategy is carried out through five stages: preparation, presentation, practice, evaluation, and follow-up. The aim of this research is to describe the learning process and the ability of student reading comprehension in class seven in SMP Negeri 18 Padang using CALLA strategy based on the local wisdom. This reasearch is quantitative and description method. The result of this research is the ability of student reading comprehension class seven in SMPN 18 Padang progresses, pretest mark is 73,53 and postest mark is 84,03. It means that CALLA strategy based on the local wisdom can increase the ability of student reading comprehension. Learning by applying this strategy  can make student easier understanding the text. Keywords:  CALLA Strategy, reading comprehension learning, local wisdom

Abstract

Abstract: The reading ability of Indonesian society is still low due to the low interest and reading habit. CALLA-based strategy of cognition by not forgetting aspects of metacognition can make students more precise in understanding a text in depth. Materials, media, and tests based on local wisdom are also expected to improve reading comprehension. This type of research is mixed methods with explanatory design. The sample of this research is taken with purposive purpose of two class, that is VII. 1 for the experimental class and VII.2 control class. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of CALLA strategy based on local wisdom in learning to read comprehension shows can increase student's interest to improve comprehension of reading. Similarly, the students' reading comprehension test results also show a significant improvement in the experimental class with CALLA strategies based on local wisdom. A significant level of effectiveness of reading comprehension learning with CALLA strategy based on local wisdom is 0.000 which means> α 0.05. That is, learning comprehension reading with CALLA strategy based on local wisdom is effective. The results of interviews and observations of teacher and student activities seen the influence of CALLA strategy based on local wisdom that makes students more enthusiastic and active in learning. Thus, CALLA strategy based on local wisdom is effective in improving students' reading comprehension skills. Abstrak: Kemampuan membaca masyarakat Indonesia masih rendah karena minat dan kebiasaan membaca yang rendah. Strategi CALLA berbasis kognisi tanpa melupakan aspek metakognisi dapat menjadikan siswa lebih tepat dalam memahami teks secara mendalam. Materi, media, dan tes yang diberikan berbasis kearifan lokal juga diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan metode campuran dengan rancangan explanatory design. Sampel penelitian diambil dengan teknik purpose sampling dua kelas, yaitu VII.1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan VII.2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan stategi CALLA berbasis kearifan lokal dapat meningkatkan minat siswa untuk meningkatkan pemahaman. Hasil tes kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa juga menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada kelas eksperimen. Tingkat signifikan keefektifan pembelajaran membaca pemahaman dengan strategi CALLA berbasis kearifan lokal mencapai 0,000 yang berarti > α 0,05. Artinya, pembelajaran membaca pemahaman dengan strategi CALLA berbasis kearifan lokal efektif. Hasil wawancara dan observasi aktivitas guru dan siswa pun menunjukkan bahwa metode ini membuat siswa lebih antusias dan aktif dalam pembelajaran. Abstract

Salah satu kegiatan yang dapat meningkatkan minat baca adalah membudayakan kegiatan literasi dikalangan anak-anak. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah menyediakan sarana dan prasarana literasi anak. Beberapa komunitas di masyarakat di Kota Padang sudah mencanangkan budaya literasi, diantaranya Komunitas Tanah Ombak dan Komunitas Lentera Kuning. Komunitas Tanah Ombak sebagai mitra 1 dan Komunitas Lentera Kuning sebagai mitra 2 sudah mencangkan budaya literasi dengan menyediakan sarana perpustakaan. Buku-buku diperpustkaan banyak dibaca anak-anak, tetapi kegiatan membaca tersebut hanya untuk bermain. Kegiatan membaca akan lebih bermakna jika dikaitkan dengan pengetahuan sehingga dapat menunjang kemampuan akademik anak-anak Tanah Ombak dan Lentera Kuning. Metode yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra dilakukan dengan pembinaan kegiatan membaca yang bermakna dengan menerapkan strategi Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach (CALLA). Hasil dari kegiatan tersebut cukup baik, yaitu adanya peningkatan rata-rata kemampuan membaca pemahaman dari sebelum dan sesudah dilaksanakan kegiatan literasi dengan Strategi CALLA.

Abstract

Reading comprehension of students is still low due to lack of interest and motivation of studentsin reading. Learning reading skills can take advantage of advances in technology with the application of methods through media interesting and effective. The use of attractive and effective method can increase interest and motivation to read. Efforts should be made to improve students' reading comprehension can through computer-based learning.Computer- based learning was conducted using Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) through the production of a CD Interkatif. Through advances in technology, students still know the culture of the nation by giving a discourse with the theme of local wisdom in every rubric magazine packed in the interactive CD.

Abstract

This study explores the main challenges in teaching Indonesian language (BIPA) in international classrooms, particularly addressing the limited knowledge of Indonesian culture that learners encounter in BIPA. Another significant challenge is the constraint of materials and teaching strategies related to Indonesian culture, especially regional cultures, which may have an impact on BIPA instruction in Indonesia. The primary goal is to enhance the use of the Indonesian language among foreign learners through cross-cultural understanding and a cognitive approach that supports its implementation. This research also aims to identify the impact of community practices on language learning, believing that interaction within this community enhances students' language abilities. Using a linguistic phenomenology design, this study involves direct classroom observations supported by field notes, providing insights into interactions and teaching practices. Semi-structured interviews with instructors contribute to a deeper understanding of perspectives and challenges in teaching BIPA, particularly concerning cross-cultural understanding in its instruction. Findings indicate that not all BIPA instructors utilize cultural materials and strategies in teaching. However, with high levels of student knowledge about Minangkabau culture, such as food, art, clothing, and traditional houses observed in West Sumatra, gaps in their learning arise. Time management issues emerge as a significant concern affecting the effectiveness of teaching cross-cultural understanding in foreign language instruction. This research provides valuable insights for enhancing BIPA instruction in international classrooms, emphasizing the importance of understanding community practices in cross-cultural understanding in BIPA instruction.

Abstract

This community service initiative was conducted to help foreign students in the BIPA (Indonesian for Foreign Speakers) program develop a deeper understanding of cultural discourse in their daily interactions. Using a hands-on, experiential learning approach, students were guided in mastering culturally appropriate speech acts such as making requests, offering invitations, providing advice, and pleading, all in accordance with Indonesian social norms. The results of the project indicate significant improvements in the students' ability to communicate politely and effectively, reflecting their increased awareness of Indonesian cultural etiquette. This enhanced communication competence has facilitated smoother adaptation to the social environment in Indonesia, helping students build better relationships and integrate more fully into the local community.
