Abstract

Counselor candidates with high cultural awareness will be able to make new friends, develop good interpersonal skills, face stereotypes and prejudices about other cultures, create harmony between groups, and be more adaptive in a multicultural world. Regarding this issue, the present research strived for increasing cultural awareness in counselor candidates by implementing group counseling through a humanistic approach, a self-disclosure technique and a behavioral approach named modeling technique. It was a quantitative experimental study in the form of a two-factor pretest-multiple posttest control design. 30 research subjects were divided equally in the control group, the experimental group with a self-disclosure technique and the experimental group with a modeling technique. The subject data were collected using a culture awareness scale and analyzed using the repeated-measures mixed ANOVA test. It was found that the implementation of group counseling with the self-disclosure and modeling techniques was effective in increasing the cultural awareness of Guidance and Counseling students at UIN Salatiga. It is recommended that counselors use the same treatment to increase their cultural awareness.

Abstract

The part of the phenomena of vocational high school students' (SMK) perplexity about their future profession options are attributed to their immaturity and lack of preparedness for the workforce. With an ex post facto study using a sample of 280 students from SMKN 6 Kota Semarang, the purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of peer social support and self-efficacy on their career maturity. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to test the research findings, and the results show that career maturity is highly affected by self-efficacy. In a similar vein, career maturity is greatly affected by peer social support. Thus, career maturity is affected by both peer social support and self-efficacy combined. These results help to clarify the requirements and difficulties faced by students when selecting their future careers, allowing for more targeted and efficient counseling.

Abstract

Resilience plays a key role in preventing relapse among former drug addicts. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of group guidance using symbolic modeling and behavior contract techniques to enhance self-resilience and compare their relative impacts. A quantitative approach with a pretest-posttest control group design was applied to 21 participants in Sleman Regency. Resilience was measured using the adapted Connor & Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). The Wilcoxon test analyzed within-group effectiveness, while the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests compared effectiveness across groups. Findings show that symbolic modeling significantly improves resilience, whereas the behavior contract technique does not yield a significant effect. Moreover, there are notable differences in effectiveness among the symbolic modeling, behavior contract, and control groups. These results highlight the greater potential of symbolic modeling in enhancing resilience among former drug addicts in school-based rehabilitation programs

Abstract

Bullying is a harmful behavior that intimidates and hurts other people. This research attempted to test the effectiveness of rational-emotive behavior group counseling with cognitive restructuring and role-playing techniques to reduce bullying behavior at one of the State Vocational Schools or SMK Negeri in Sampit. Experimental research with a two-factor Pre-test-Multiple post-test control design was employed in this investigation. Three groups were involved in the sampling process, each consisting of 8 tenth graders indicated to have high levels of bullying behavior. Students’ bullying behavior was measured using a bullying behavior scale based on Dupper's (2013) theory, consisting of 30 items measuring six bullying behaviors and being analyzed using the repeated mix ANOVA test. According to the findings, applying cognitive restructuring and role-playing techniques effectively reduced bullying behavior in students. It is recommended that counselors apply rational-emotive behavior group counseling with cognitive restructuring techniques and role-playing techniques to cope with students' bullying behavior.

Abstract

Students frequently face persistent academic pressure, which impacts their psychological well-being and academic performance. To address this challenge, various strength-based psychological approaches have been explored, including the enhancement of self-compassion and gratitude. This study aims to conduct a systematic literature review to identify and analyze the contributions of self-compassion and gratitude in reducing academic stress among students. The method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by PRISMA. Articles were sourced from Google Scholar, PubMed, and Publish or Perish (2015–2024), with inclusion criteria focusing on peer-reviewed journals discussing at least one of the two key variables in the student context. From the search and selection process, 12 articles were analyzed. Findings indicate that self-compassion reduces self-criticism and enhances emotional regulation, while gratitude strengthens psychological resilience and fosters positive perceptions of academic pressure. The study recommends integrating both approaches into strength-based counseling services as a preventive and promotive strategy for managing academic stress.

Abstract

This study aims to culturally adapt and evaluate the Indonesian version of the Child and Adolescent Resilience Measure (CYRM) among boarding school students. The adaptation followed standard guidelines, including forward and backward translation by linguists and expert panel reviews, to ensure cultural and linguistic relevance. A total of 362 students from four Islamic boarding schools in Central Java participated. Reliability testing showed strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.85) and composite reliability above the ≥0.70 standard. Construct validity was confirmed through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, supported by expert judgment on content validity. Model fit indices indicated excellent results (CFI = 0.937, RMSEA = 0.046, SRMR = 0.049). The CYRM structure comprises three dimensions Individual, Relational, and Contextual that capture personal capacity, social support, and cultural context in the face of challenges. Findings demonstrate that the Indonesian CYRM is a reliable and valid tool for measuring resilience, offering culturally appropriate support for research and interventions in Islamic boarding schools.
