Abstract

This study examined the relationship between self-care management and hospitalization frequency among patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis. A quantitative empirical approach with a descriptive correlational cross-sectional design was applied to 99 patients undergoing routine hemodialysis. Self-care management was measured using a validated questionnaire, while hospitalization frequency during the previous year was obtained from medical records. Descriptive analysis demonstrated that a substantial proportion of patients exhibited moderate to high levels of self-care management. Bivariate analysis revealed a statistically significant association between self-care management and hospitalization frequency, indicating that patients with higher self-care capacity experienced fewer hospital admissions. These findings suggest that effective self-care behaviors, including adherence to diet and fluid restriction, vascular access care, and stress management, contribute to greater clinical stability. Integration with existing literature confirms that self-care management operates as a protective behavioral mechanism influencing objective health outcomes in chronic kidney disease. Strengthening self-care management through structured nursing education and supportive interventions may reduce preventable hospitalizations and improve healthcare efficiency for hemodialysis populations. The results provide empirical support for incorporating self-care management as a core component of chronic renal care strategies.

Abstract

Diabetic nephropathy remains a major microvascular complication contributing to morbidity among patients with diabetes mellitus, particularly in relation to prolonged disease duration and poor glycemic control. This study aimed to describe the distribution of diabetes duration and random blood glucose levels among patients with diabetic nephropathy. A retrospective descriptive design was applied using medical record data of diabetic nephropathy patients treated at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang, in 2025. A total of 97 patients were selected using the Taro Yamane formula. Data on duration of diabetes diagnosis and random blood glucose levels were analyzed using univariate analysis and presented as frequency and percentage distributions. The findings indicate that most patients with diabetic nephropathy had been diagnosed with diabetes for more than one year and exhibited elevated random blood glucose levels, reflecting sustained metabolic stress. These patterns support the concept that cumulative exposure to hyperglycemia over time plays a critical role in the development of renal microvascular damage. The study highlights the clinical relevance of early glycemic monitoring and long-term disease management to mitigate the progression of diabetic nephropathy.

Abstract

Pressure ulcers are conditions characterized by damage to the anatomical structure and normal function of the skin caused by continuous external pressure on prominent bony areas. This study was conducted to determine the effect of a combination of effleurage massage and Nigella sativa oil on reducing the risk of pressure ulcer development. Pressure ulcers are a common nursing problem, particularly among individuals with limited mobility and those undergoing prolonged bed rest. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental one-group design with post-intervention measurement. The sample consisted of 18 respondents who met the inclusion criteria and were determined using the Federer formula. All respondents received an intervention in the form of a combination of effleurage massage and Nigella sativa oil in accordance with established procedures. The risk of pressure ulcer development was assessed after the intervention using a standardized risk assessment instrument. The data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. The results showed a statistically significant reduction in the risk of pressure ulcer development after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.003. This study concludes that the combination of effleurage massage and Nigella sativa oil has a significant effect on reducing the risk of pressure ulcers.

Abstract

Hemodialysis is the primary therapy for patients with chronic kidney disease to maintain survival. The success of hemodialysis therapy is influenced by several factors, including comorbidities and hemodialysis adequacy. Comorbid conditions may increase the risk of complications, while hemodialysis adequacy plays an important role in determining therapeutic effectiveness and patient prognosis. This study aimed to determine the relationship between comorbidities and hemodialysis adequacy with survival rates among hemodialysis patients at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 175 hemodialysis patients were selected using purposive sampling. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan–Meier method to evaluate differences in survival rates based on comorbidities and hemodialysis adequacy. The results showed that most respondents had diabetes mellitus as a comorbidity (64.6%), adequate hemodialysis adequacy (58.9%), and were alive during the observation period (65.1%). Kaplan–Meier analysis demonstrated no significant difference in survival rates based on comorbidities, whereas a significant difference in survival rates was observed based on hemodialysis adequacy. Comorbidities were not associated with survival rate, while hemodialysis adequacy was significantly associated with survival rate among hemodialysis patients. Adequate hemodialysis is essential to improve patient survival.

Abstract

The operating room is a hospital unit with a high risk to patient safety; therefore, the implementation of patient safety is a crucial indicator of healthcare quality. However, patient safety incidents continue to occur and are influenced by factors such as communication, leadership, knowledge, attitudes, motivation, and incident reporting practices. This study aimed to analyze the factors affecting patient safety incidents in the operating room of RS Sari Asih Ciputat. This research employed a quantitative correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 35 nurses selected using total sampling. Research instruments included questionnaires on incident perception, reporting attitudes, work motivation, leadership based on the Leader–Member Exchange model, and incident reporting aligned with the International Patient Safety Goals. The results showed that most respondents were aged 17–25 years, female, held a diploma degree, had less than five years of work experience, and were permanent employees. Most respondents demonstrated poor perceptions and negative attitudes, while motivation and leadership were generally rated as good. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between perception, attitude, motivation, and leadership and patient safety incidents in the operating room, with a p-value of 0.000.

Abstract

RFA treatments, pain is a frequent issue that might interfere with comfort and postpone recovery. Pharmacological treatment continues to be the mainstay of pain management after RFA, whereas non-pharmacological nursing treatments like cold compress therapy are not regularly used. The purpose of this research was to investigate how cold compress therapy affects pain severity in individuals following radiofrequency ablation. At the central general hospital in central Java, a quantitative quasi-experimental design was used, employing a one-group pre-test and post-test methodology. Twenty-eight participants were chosen using purposive sampling. The NRS was used to assess the intensity of pain both before and after applying a cold compress for 15–20 minutes. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used to examine the data. Following the intervention, the median pain scores fell from 5 (moderate pain) to 2 (mild pain), which was a statistically significant change (p = 0.001). These results suggest that cold compress therapy can be advised as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention in post-procedural treatment since it helps lessen post-RFA pain

Abstract

Anxiety and pain are common problems experienced by postoperative patients and may negatively affect physiological and psyhological conditions as well as the recovery process. Management of anxiety and pain can be carried out throught pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, one of which is the autogenic relaxation technique. This technique is safe, simple easy to learn and does not cause side effects so it can be applied by healthcare professionals and performed independently by patients. This study aimed to determine the effect of autogenic relaxation on anxiety levels and pain intensity in postoperative patients in the general ward. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest without control approach. The sample consisted of 31 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HRS-A) to measure anxiety levels and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to assess pain intensity. The result of the Paired Sample T-test showed a p-value of 0,0001 (< 0,05), indicating a significant decrease in the mean anxiety level from moderate to mild after the intevention. The wilcoxon test also showed a p-value of 0,0001 (< 0,05), demonstrating a significant difference in pain intensity before and after the intervention, from moderate pain to mild pain. It can be cocluded that the autogenic relaxation technique has a significant effect on reducing anxiety levels and pain intensity in postoperative patients. This technique is recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention that can be applied by healthcare professionals to enhance patient comfort and support the postoperative recovery process.

Abstract

Early Warning Score (EWS) is early detection instrument for predicting severity or worsening of a patient's condition. Therefore, nurses' compliance with the assessment is crucial. The goal is to reduce the incidence of code blues in general care units. Code blue is a procedure code used for conditions where a victim is found to be at risk of cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest. Methods: This study is a quantitative analytical survey, a form of research that examines the effects and risk factors. The study design was cross-sectional, examining the dynamics of correlation between dependent and independent variables. The number of respondents in this study was 150, drawn from a total sampling of the nurse population in general care units. The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis using a non-parametric Chi-Square test. Results: Respondents, based on their level of compliance with the EWSS monitoring form, were mostly in the compliant category (94%), and most had an impact on the absence of code blues (94%) in the emergency risk group. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nurses' compliance in monitoring the completion of the EWSS and the occurrence of code blue in inpatient rooms (P-Value <0.05).
