Abstract

The propensity of geography specialization is increasingly prevalent (especially in Indonesia). Geography is no longer interpreted as integrative, covering both physical and human aspects. This resulted in a study by geographers concerning only material objects of geography. Not infrequently it would be overlapping with other science clusters. This condition is disadvantageous, geography can be considered not as a science if it does not have the characteristics/differentiation with other science. It may affect the existence of geography in the future. This article aims to provide the description of the geography from the perspective of philosophy of science. By reviewing the literature, this paper attempts to explain aspects of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. Ontology geography is a science that examines the physical and human aspects. Characteristic of geography study using spatial approach, environment, and area complex. Epistemologically, geography uses both quantitative and qualitative methods. Caused, in examining the physical and human aspects of using the two methods is highly recommended so that the results of geographic studies more comprehensive. As axiology, the existence of geography is increasingly important to sustainable development goals.

Abstract

This article aims to identify the types of knowledge needed in reducing the risk of disasters and challenges in applying knowledge. Based on the literature review, this article analyzes various kinds of knowledge, the process of knowledge creation, and the challenges of knowledge transmission. Basically, knowledge consists of explicit and tacit knowledge. In the context of disasters, most of the knowledge is tacit in individual local people (indigenous knowledge). Tacit knowledge can motivate someone to make decisions (act) when a disaster occurs. To be understood and disseminated to the wider community, tacit knowledge needs to be converted into explicit knowledge and scientifically validated. This article proposes the importance of integrating tacit knowledge in the form of local knowledge to become explicit knowledge so it can be widely used. Knowledge built in a bottom-up manner, which comes from local knowledge, is believed to be effective in disaster risk reduction. However, in some countries, the process of applying the knowledge is constrained by a fatalism that is influenced by social culture and religious beliefs.

Abstract

This research is based on the dryness of spiritual values in cosmography learning in college. This is because of the cosmographic material currently available contains only the cognitive domain. This condition makes cosmographic learning in college unable to make students as a person who glorifies God and pious in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 12 the year 2012. The research and development procedure is done by modifying the Dick and Carey model which is done through 7 stages. The results showed that the acceptance of teaching materials products reached 80, 42%. An important finding of this research is the integration of Quranic verses into teaching material can add the belief of the respondent to God Almighty for the creation of the universe. This makes the student become a person who glorifies God. Although spiritual intelligence is difficult to measure with various instruments,  at least the opinions of most respondents, it can be used as a benchmark that learning Al Quran-based cosmography can increase students' confidence in God Almighty.

Abstract

Abstract

The series of volcanic activities of Mount Raung triggered primary and secondary hazards in the area around the volcano. Kalibaru watershed is one of the areas prone to landslides due to secondary hazards of eruption activity in the direction of west and northwest part of this region. This study aims to optimize tourism by mapping landslide hazard using Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation (SMCE) around Mount Raung. This research used 46 points of landslide data through remote sensing, field observation. Ten landslide triggering factors, namely TPI (Topographic Position Index), TWI (Topographic Wetness Index), SPI (Stream Power Index), slope, distance to river, rainfall, geology, land use, distance to road, and soil type was used to map the landslide hazard. This study used ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) analysis to validate the landslide susceptibility mapping with an AUC (Area Under Curve) value of 0.93, which indicates that the mapping has a high accuracy value. The results showed that the landslide susceptibility is divided into three classes: high susceptible, moderate susceptible, and low susceptible. The high susceptible area covers 151.62 km2 (21%), the moderate susceptible area covers 407.99 km2 (56%), and the low susceptible area covers 166.79 km2 (23%). Based on the results of the mapping, tourism development in the area of Mount Raung is recommended in areas that are classified as medium and low landslide susceptibility. Keywords: Mount Raung, Landslides, SMCE, Tourism Development

Abstract

The Bahorok River basin has a high flash-flood hazard index. This is shown by loss of lives and damage of homes due to floods in recent years, however, no research examined community preparedness on the hazard of flash-flood. This research aimed to assess the effect of disaster experience and flood-risk perception on disaster preparedness of the people of Bukit Lawang Plantation Village. A cross-sectional survey design was used to determine the relationship between disaster experience, risk perception and preparedness as the independent and dependent variables, respectively. The results showed that disaster experience and risk perception positively and significantly affect the community preparedness. Disaster risk reduction programs in the region only focus on emergency response, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. Furthermore, increasing public awareness and preparedness has not been prioritized in reducing flood risk. This is an essential aspect for consideration because mountainous areas are often marginalized and lack access to disaster risk reduction programs.
