Abstract

The Marginal Land in Indonesia still in very large amount. Meanwhile, the accelerate to rehabilitate the land still very slow. The low of pH, C-Organik, N-Total, P and K-exchangeable become the parameter of marginal land condition. Therefore carried out research which combine acid humic and NPK fertilizer which applied to marginal land and seen its influence to growth of seed of suren. Research has been  done in green house at Faculty Of Agriculture of USU on March-May 2012 using completely randomized factorial design of two factors that is concentration of  humic acid ( 0%, 2.5% and 5%) and dose prular NPK fertilizer ( 0 gr; 1 gr; 2 gr; 3 gr and 4 gr per crop). The parameters observed were height of the plant, diameter of stem, dry wight, wide total of leaf and ratio of root crown. The results of research indicate that the concentration of humic acid do not have an effect on the reality to all of the parameters except to parameter of ratio of root crown. But dosage of  NPK fertilizer have significantly effect to all of the parameters. The combination of the concentration of humic acid and NPK fertilizer do not have an effect on the reality to all parameter. All of the dose of NPK fertilizer  besides control have a different significantly to the growth of the plant. Thereby, using of NPK fertilizer is good to growth of plant on marginal land media. Keyword : marginal land, humic acid, NPK fertilizer, seed of suren.

Abstract

Community Service Program in agroforestry land management together with the people of Candi Rejo of Village, Biru- Biru Sub-District, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, aims to assist the community in managing agroforestry land to improve community skills in managing their agroforestry land. Some of the activities carried out are making compost using cocoa waste and animal husbandry, prunning cocoa plants to reduce pest and disease attacks and planting mindi, avocado, durian species for enrichment of species on agroforestry land. Based on the result of interviews with farmers that the use of compost is more effective in increasing cocoa production.

Abstract

Abstract The aim of this research was to improve the quality of liquid waste water by looked at the role of test plants (warter hyacinth, water jasmine and apu wood)by phytoremediation process in reducing pollutant level. This research was conducted at Rumah Kaca Faculty of Agriculture University of Sumatera Utara Medan from July 2016 to April 2017.This research was used factorial randomized block design with two factors. The first factor was tofu waste with three levels; L0 (no waste) as control , L1(25%) and L2 (50%). The second factor was plant species with four levels were T0 (no plant as control), T1 (water hyacinth), T2 (jasmine water) and T3 (apu wood). The parameters observed were BOD (mg / L), COD (mg / L), TSS (mg / L), NH3N (mg / L), pH, waste colours, odor waste and dry weight of plans (grams). The results showed that the three test plants could be used for phytoremediation process, tofu waste, 25% waste concentration as the best apu wood in reducing the pollutant level of tofu waste. Keywords: tofu liquid waste, aquatic plants, phytoremediation, contaminants

Abstract

Abstract

Silvofishery is a mangrove ecosystem management model that combines fisheries and forestry aspects. This method is also a solution for cultivators to cultivate fish without damaging the mangrove ecosystem. It is hoped that the results of this service activity can be used as a model or input for the community in order to manage ponds with silvofishery technology without having to do open ponds which will slowly damage the environment. This community service activity aimed to provide information and skills to partner groups on the silvofishery method. Other aim was to assist partners in the tilapia rearing process. Based on the description of the problems and objectives of this community service activity, the activities that have been carried out are counseling about silvofishery. The second activity, provision of tilapia seeds and feed for fish rearing activities in silvofishery ponds. The results obtained were increased partners' knowledge and skills regarding silvofishery. The people of Tanjungrejo Village also get tilapia cultivation products that can be traded without cutting down mangrove trees.

Abstract

Agroforestry is a land use pattern that combines agricultural and forestry crops on the same land with spatial and temporal arrangements. Ria-ria Village, Pollung District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency is one of the villages designated by the government to be one of the Food Estate areas in North Sumatra which is expected to be able to produce quality agricultural products that can be marketed not only locally but also outside the region. The management of this food estate needs an environmentally friendly concept for the sustainability of natural resources and the environment of the village area. Service activities carried out by socializing agroforestry patterns to the Tani Ria Kerja Community Group, planting trees with a hedge plant model around the land. The types of trees planted in this service activity are Avocado (Persea americana) and Suren (Toona sinensis).
