Abstract

Dental plaque is a soft deposit that adheres tightly to the tooth surface. Dental plaque on the tooth surface can trigger dental caries. This requires good efforts to reduce oral diseases caused by dental plaque. Mechanical plaque control methods are regular brushing and the use of dental floss. One way to prevent plaque chemically is to use mouthwash such as green tea brew, because it contains polyphenolic compounds that can reduce the formation of dental plaque. Purpose of the study: to determine the effect of gargling green tea brew in reducing the plaque index. Research. Methods: This type of research is pre-experimental with a One-Group Pretest Posttest design with a sample size of 52 students aged 10 years. Results: Data analysis using the Wilcoxon statistical test. The results of the Wilcoxon statistical test showed a significant difference in plaque index scores between before and after gargling green tea brew with a P value of 0.000 (<0, 05). This means that there is a difference. Conclusion: There is an effect of gargling green tea brew on plaque index in 10-year-old children at MIN 1 West Lampung.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes in the oral cavity, collectively referred to as “oral diabetes,” can cause tooth decay, dryness in the mouth, calculus buildup, gums that bleed easily (also called gingivitis), gingivitis itself, and alveolar resorption. Linkage Between Diseases: There is an increase in gum problems among diabetes sufferers reaching 72% because public awareness about dental and oral health has decreased in recent years. Purpose of the study: To determine the correlation between dental and oral health knowledge and periodontal tissue in diabetes mellitus sufferers. Methods: Type of analytical descriptive research with Chi-square design. Results:Data analysis used the chi-square test. The results of the chi-square statistical test showed that there was no correlation between dental and oral health knowledge and periodontal tissue in diabetes mellitus sufferers with a P value of 0.405 (> 0.05). This means there is no correlation. Conclusion: There is no correlation between knowledge of dental and oral health and periodontal tissue of diabetes mellitus sufferers at the Way Halim II Health Center in Bandar Lampung.

Abstract

Cavities are the most common dental and oral health problems people experience. There are four main factors that interact with each other in caries formation, namely host, substrate/diet, bacteria/microorganisms, saliva, and time. Indirectly, saliva influences the process of caries because saliva always wets the teeth, thus affecting the environment in the oral cavity.
