Abstract

The problem of dental caries is one of the most common health problems experienced by school-age children, so an understanding of good and correct tooth brushing and maintaining oral health must be instilled from an early age. This research aims to determine the impact of giving leaflet media and playing snakes and ladders on increasing knowledge about how to brush their teeth in students. This study used a quasy experiment method with a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The research location was at SDN 065015 Medan Tuntungan Subdistrict. The research time started from January - May 2023. The subjects of this study were all third-grade students of SDN 065015 Medan Tuntungan District, totaling 30 people. The sample size was used as a total sampling of 30 people. The subjects of this study were divided into two groups, namely the intervention group of 15 people and the control group of 15 people. The intervention in this study was the provision of leaflet media and playing snakes and ladders. For the intervention and control groups, a pre-test was conducted before the subjects were given leaflet media and played snakes and ladders. Furthermore, both groups were given a post-test after being given leaflet media and playing Snakes and Ladders. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires before and after being given leaflet media and playing snakes and ladders. Data analysis using paired t-test and unpaired t-test. The results showed that the average knowledge of students about how to brush their teeth in the intervention and control groups both experienced a significant increase in knowledge. There is a difference in the average score of students' knowledge before and after being given intervention through leaflet media and playing snakes and ladders (p = <0.05). To the teacher of SDN 065015 Medan Tuntungan to collaborate with the Puskesmas to provide socialization in the form of routine counseling to students about how to brush their teeth.

Dental health is one aspect of all health which is the result of interactions between physical, mental and social conditions. Physical aspects affect dental and oral health. The mental aspect of psychological readiness is psychological readiness, namely whether we want or not to maintain healthy teeth and mouth. Social aspects aspects that influence attitudes and behavior. Dental and oral health is very beneficial for children's well-being in the school environment so that children are free from toothache. This research uses a quasi-experiment method using a pre-test and post-test approach. The population in this research is class VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Pineleng, totaling 97 respondents, sampling using a random sampling technique, a population of 50 respondents. This research instrument uses a diagnostic tool set and an index debris assessment format. The data obtained were tabulated and analyzed using the Paired sample T-test statistical test. The results of the paired sample t-test showed the difference between brushing teeth using a medium bristle brush on debris. 2,064 df 24 with a p value = 0.000< ?0.05, while brushing your teeth with a soft bristle brush against debris. The index results show a mean before and after .8080, tcount 7,460> 2.064, df 24 with a p value = 0.000 <?0.05. It is concluded (H1) is acceptable. The results of the study showed that the average debris index before brushing medium bristle teeth was 1.68 and after 0.65 with a difference of 1.03, while before brushing soft bristle teeth it was 1.73 and after 0.92 with a difference of 0.81, resulting in a decrease in debris The index before and after using a medium bristle brush is greater than a soft bristle brush with a difference of 0.22.

Abstract

Demonstration of how to brush teeth is a teaching method by presenting lessons through direct demonstration of the object or showing a process or procedure. Roll Technique is the method most often recommended because it is simple but efficient and can be used throughout the mouth. Debris Index (DI) is a score (value) of soft deposits that occur due to food residue attached to the tooth surface. This study aims to determine the status of the debris index before and after a demonstration of brushing teeth using the roll technique. The type of research is experimental research with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The total population was 52 students and the total sample was 48 students, the time of the research was in May 2019 at Kartika XXI-5 Manado Elementary School. This research was to see the difference in debris index status before and after the demonstration method of brushing teeth using the roll technique using a paired sample t test. The results of this study showed that the average debris index before the demonstration of brushing teeth using the roll technique for 48 respondents was 2.31, while the average debris index after the demonstration of brushing teeth using the roll technique for 48 respondents was 1.48. The calculated t value is 10.335 with a sig of 0.000. because sig <0.05, it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted, which means there is a difference in the status of the debris index before and after a demonstration of brushing teeth using the roll technique for students in class IV & V at Kartika XXI-5 Elementary School, Manado.

Abstract

Debris is a soft mineral that sticks to teeth, usually stuck in between teeth and is a contributing factor to the formation of dental caries and tartar. Debris can only be cleaned by brushing your teeth and consuming fibrous foods. Fiber foods have good teeth-cleaning power, found in fruits such as apples and melons. Chewing fruit will increase saliva and help rinse teeth from stuck food debris. Apples and melons are fruits that contain high fiber. This type of research was descriptive research using the Debris Index examination method directly in the oral cavity. The sample in this study was 30 students in Class 2 of SMP N 7 Kisaran. The research results showed that before chewing an apple, none of the respondents had good Debris Index criteria, 80% had moderate criteria and 20% had poor criteria. Before chewing melon, none of the respondents had good Debris Index criteria, 60% had moderate criteria and 40% had poor criteria. After chewing an apple there was a 100% Debris Index in good criteria. After chewing melon, respondents who had a Debris Index with good criteria were 66.67%, with moderate criteria 33.33% and none had bad criteria. It can be concluded that chewing apples and melons can reduce the Debris Index number. The decrease in Debris Index after chewing apples was 1.22 on average and after chewing melons, it was 1.21 on average. It is hoped that students regularly consume fruit that contains lots of fiber such as apples and melons.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes in the oral cavity, collectively referred to as “oral diabetes,” can cause tooth decay, dryness in the mouth, calculus buildup, gums that bleed easily (also called gingivitis), gingivitis itself, and alveolar resorption. Linkage Between Diseases: There is an increase in gum problems among diabetes sufferers reaching 72% because public awareness about dental and oral health has decreased in recent years. Purpose of the study: To determine the correlation between dental and oral health knowledge and periodontal tissue in diabetes mellitus sufferers. Methods: Type of analytical descriptive research with Chi-square design. Results:Data analysis used the chi-square test. The results of the chi-square statistical test showed that there was no correlation between dental and oral health knowledge and periodontal tissue in diabetes mellitus sufferers with a P value of 0.405 (> 0.05). This means there is no correlation. Conclusion: There is no correlation between knowledge of dental and oral health and periodontal tissue of diabetes mellitus sufferers at the Way Halim II Health Center in Bandar Lampung.

Abstract

Maintenance of dental hygiene in orthodontic users needs to be given special attention, because food debris is more easily attached and triggers plaque buildup. Knowledge is very influential on oral hygiene because understanding the causes and consequences of oral hygiene can increase action to maintain oral hygiene. The research method used is quantitative method with experimental method by conducting pre-test and post-test on respondents. The sampling technique used a total of 56 respondents. The data collection instrument uses a questionnaire in the form of checklist data and direct OHI-S checking. The results of the data analysis test (Wilcoxon) show that there is a difference in knowledge about maintaining dental hygiene between before and after getting counseling using Leafblog Scan Barcode media with a p-value obtained on the knowledge variable of 0.000,<0.005, while on the dental hygiene status variable (OHI-S) there is a difference before and after getting counseling with a p-value of 0.000 <0.005.
