Abstract

AbstractThis study was to examine the use of mnemonic loci method in developing student’s vocabulary acquisition. This classroom action research design conducted to the 27 students of second grade SMP Negeri 3 Ketungau Hulu in academic year 2018/2019. Two cycles of classroom action research were conducted to help the researcher achieve the objective. The data were collected and analyzed in qualitative and quantitative form.  The findings showed that there were positive improvements on students’ vocabulary acquisition. This result was exactly supported by the process in teaching and learning, which indicated that students’ interest in learning vocabulary increased. The use of mnemonic loci method combined with picture was useful in assisting students to memorize vocabulary target in the learning process. In conclusion, the researcher was highly recommended that mnemonic loci method combined with picture as aids may be applied in teaching vocabulary. The use of mnemonic loci method was not simply improving students’ vocabulary acquisition but valuable to encourage students in learning vocabulary. Keywords: Classroom Action Research, Mnemonic Loci Method, Teaching Vocabulary

Abstract

This research paper has been designed to analyze students’ perception on the use of paper and electronic dictionary to the EFL students who studied on English study program in University of Kapuas Sintang. This study used 20 items of Questionnaire as the instrument for data collecting. There are sixteen students invited in this study. The result of this analysis reveals that electronic dictionary is mostly trending-use by the students in enhancing students’ learning as illustrated in mean score 4.50. Electronic dictionary has become convenient tool toward for the portability in which easy to be carried and the mean score at the level 4.00. The paper dictionary gets the highest frequency of agree 73 % toward the use of paper dictionary can enhance students’ learning. As an inference, the use of electronic dictionary and paper dictionary plays a significant impact for language learning whether good or not it is depending on the user to be selective and use it effectively. Abstract

This research objective was to identify whether the use of Audio CALD3 is effective in teaching students to pronounce minimal pairs of English word toward second year of SMA Negeri 2 Sintang. The sample chosen through cluster random sampling. They were 32 students selected as participant. The research finding showed the pre-test result was 55.63 and post-test result was 84.76 by applying 0.05 level of significance with 31 degree of freedom (df), the t-counted 25.778 was higher than t-table 2.042. It indicated that the use of Audio CALD3 is effective in teaching students to pronounce minimal pairs of English word. Abstract

This study is intended to analyze students’ need in learning English for specific purposes. This descriptive qualitative research design is engaged 50 students as participants. There are 25 of Law students and 25 of business students are chosen as participants of this study. This study is provided 9 items of questionnaire as the tool for data collecting. SPSS as the medium for helping the researcher in analyzing data collection. The result of this study revealed that the most difficulties aspect in learning English is aspect of speaking. Meanwhile, the main purpose of students to learn English is to be able to speak English fluently. This result as important feedback for the instructors or lecturer to decide what should be done in providing an appropriate material in English class based on students’ needs.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effect of using the Elsa Speak application on students’ pronunciation of SMK Kesehatan of Kapuas Raya Sintang in the academic year 2021/2022). The design of this research used quasi-experimental research in quantitative research. The sample of this research was XI Clinical Pharmacy as the class control and XI Nursing Assistant as the class non-control. The class control was taught by using the Elsa Speak application and class non-control was taught without using the Elsa Speak application. This selection based on purposive sampling technique. The researcher gave test in the form of pre-test and post-test to the control and non-control classes. The result of this research indicated that the Elsa Speak application was significant in improving students’ pronunciation. This was proven by the average score before treatment was 46.03 and the average score after treatment has given was 76.46. It means that using the Elsa Speak application showed a positive effect size. It was 0.58, the criteria were Moderate Effect to be implemented for students, especially for the eleventh-grade students of SMK Kesehatan of Kapuas Raya Sintang.

Abstract

The border area is the front porch for a country that represents the development of the country. This study aims to identify the potential of local village agriculture that supports family economic strengthening, analyze the economic value of local village potential, formulate a strategy development of Nanga Bayan village. This research was conducted in Nanga Bayan Village, Ketungau Hulu District, Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan Province, in April-September 2023. This research used triangulation method and data are collected through semi-structured interviews, FGDs, and observations. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis. SWOT analysis used to formulate the development strategy of Indonesia-Malaysia’s border area. The results showed that the local potential in Nanga Bayan Village as a border area are local agricultural products based on traditional fields, local fruit; traditional weaving and clean water sources. The economic commodities of the people in Nanga Bayan Village are attracting Malaysian. However, transactions that occur are not through official cross-border. The development strategy of the Indonesia-Malaysia Border Village is to develop commodities that are attract Malaysian market. In addition, it is hoped that the plan to build cross-border posts in this area can increase the official buying and selling of goods at the border.
