Abstract

Kangaroo mother care is a treatment for low-birth-weight infants that involves direct skin-to-skin contact between the infant and the mother (skin-to-skin contact). This provides health and psychological benefits, particularly in providing warmth to the infant, enhancing maternal bonding, increasing maternal trust and satisfaction, and reducing stress. The difference in body temperature of low-birth-weight infants treated with kangaroo mother care for one hour and three hours. Research Method: The research design used was a quasi-experimental, pre-post test with control group design, which involves administering treatment or intervention to the experimental group and then measuring and analyzing the effects of the treatment. The sample size for this study was 30 people. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the independent t-test and paired t-test. The results showed that the infant's body temperature before the kangaroo mother care intervention was in the below-normal. The infant's body temperature after the intervention was in to normal range. The infant's body temperature after the kangaroo mother care intervention in the one-hour had a p value = 0,000 or <0,05). Abstract

The selection of healthy snacks in early childhood plays a crucial role in developing good eating habits. Parents play a key role in determining the types of snacks given to children. This study aimed to determine the relationship between parental attitudes, behaviors, and nutritional knowledge and healthy snack choices among children at TK Aisyiyah 3 Lasem. The study used a cross-sectional design, with 114 parent and children  respondents selected through total sampling. The research instrument used the BAQ-HH questionnaire, which had been developed and tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed univariately, bivariately using the Chi-Square test, and multivariately using binary logistic regression. The study showed that most parents had good knowledge (71.1%), positive attitudes (44.7%), and good behavior (68.4%), but the selection of healthy snacks for children was not optimal, where 57.9% were in the good category and 42.1% were still poor. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between parental attitudes and the choice of healthy snacks (p = 0.007). However, no significant relationship was found between behavior (p = 0.078) or knowledge (p = 0.869) with the choice of healthy snacks. The results of the multivariate analysis showed that behavior was the most dominant factor in the choice of healthy snacks for children, where parents with poor behavior where 112 times more likely to choose unhealty snacking (OR= 112,664; p= 0,004).

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between screen time habits and picky eating behavior among preschool-aged children. The increasing exposure of young children to digital devices has raised concerns regarding its impact on eating behavior, appetite regulation, and dietary patterns. Using a quantitative approach, this research analyzed screen time duration and picky eating behavior through structured questionnaires completed by parents of preschool children. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant association between excessive screen time and the emergence of picky eating behavior, indicating that longer screen exposure tends to coincide with reduced food variety acceptance and irregular eating patterns. The findings also highlight the role of parental supervision and feeding practices in moderating the effects of screen time on children’s eating behavior. These results support existing evidence that prolonged screen exposure may interfere with hunger awareness and mealtime routines in early childhood. This study emphasizes the importance of regulating screen time and strengthening parental involvement to promote healthier eating behavior during the preschool period. The findings are expected to contribute to preventive strategies in child nutrition and early health education programs.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children under five, especially in developing countries. Exposure to cigarette smoke within the household environment is a major risk factor contributing to ARI incidence in toddlers. Parents’ smoking duration reflects long-term exposure that may increase susceptibility to respiratory infections in young children. High ARI cases reported at Bangetayu Health Center indicate the need to further investigate contributing household factors, including smoking duration. This study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 144 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Smoking duration data were collected using a structured questionnaire, while ARI status was obtained from the MTBS (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness) records at the health center. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between variables. Most respondents were categorized as heavy smokers with a smoking duration of more than 10 years (76.4%). The majority of toddlers (85.4%) were recorded as having ARI. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between parents’ smoking duration and ARI incidence (p = 0.031). Toddlers whose parents were heavy smokers had the highest proportion of ARI cases (88.2%). There is a significant correlation between parents’ smoking duration and the incidence of ARI among toddlers. Longer smoking duration increases the child’s risk of developing ARI.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between picky eating behavior and nutritional status among adolescents at SMP Negeri 20 Semarang. A cross-sectional design was conducted involving 264 students aged 12–15 years. Picky eating behavior and nutritional status were assessed using structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation tests due to non-normal data distribution. The results showed that 62.1% of respondents were classified as picky eaters, while 59.1% had abnormal nutritional status, including underweight, overweight, and obesity. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between picky eating behavior and nutritional status (p = 0.003) with a negative correlation coefficient (r = −0.183), indicating that higher picky eating behavior tended to be associated with lower nutritional status. Adolescents with picky eating behavior were more likely to experience inadequate nutrient intake, which may affect growth and development during a critical period of adolescence. Although the strength of the relationship was weak, picky eating behavior remains an important behavioral factor influencing adolescent nutritional status. Comprehensive nutritional education and behavioral interventions are needed to improve dietary quality and prevent long-term nutritional problems among adolescents.
