Abstract

This research examines in depth the methodology of interpreting the Al-Qur’an by focusing on the elaboration of the ijmāli interpretation method. Tafsir ijmāli, as a method of interpreting the Al-Qur’an, offers a concise and global approach in understanding the meaning of the verses of the Al-Qur’an. The main aim of this research is to analyze the characteristics, advantages and challenges in applying the ijmāli interpretation method, as well as offering a discourse on the development of this method. The methodology used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a literature study approach. Primary data was obtained from tafsir books that use the ijmāli method as well as various literature about this tafsir method. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research show that the ijmāli exegesis method has the advantage of presenting the meaning of the Al-Qur’an practically and is easily understood by various groups. However, this method also faces challenges in elaborating the deeper and more complex meaning of certain verses. The conclusion of this research confirms that the ijmāli exegesis method remains relevant and important in contemporary Al-Qur’an interpretation discourse, but needs to be integrated with other interpretive methods to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the Al-Qur’an. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the development of the methodology for interpreting the Al-Qur’an and enrich the treasures of interpretive science through the offerings provided.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the transformation of Tafsir bi al-ra’yi: its history, methodological boundaries, and the dynamics of scholarly debates. The research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical method. Tafsir bi al-ra’yi is an interpretative method of the Qur’an based on ijtihad, which emerged in the 3rd century Hijri, particularly during the Abbasid era, to address the demands of the times. This method must be carried out by knowledgeable interpreters adhering to the principles of tafsir to ensure alignment with the Qur’an, Sunnah, and ijma’ of the scholars. While it allows intellectual freedom, it remains constrained to avoid subjective desires. Scholars have differing views: some support it as a necessary form of ijtihad, while others reject it due to concerns about conflicting with definitive texts (nash qath’i). This study concludes that Tafsir bi al-ra’yi plays a significant role in enriching the understanding of the Qur’an but emphasizes that its application must balance methodological caution and respect for the authority of the Qur’anic text.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the Islamic perspective on the practice of human slavery through verses from the Qur'an. This is done because human slavery and human trafficking are still widespread today. The method used in this study is literature analysis with a historical and phenomenological approach. The focus of this research covers modern slavery in the form of human trafficking, which is considered a determining factor in the existence of slavery in modern times. This research is also supported by data and strengthened by previous studies. The study concludes that initially the Qur'an acknowledged and accepted slavery because it was a reality that had existed for a long time. Therefore, it was impossible to eliminate it instantly and revolutionary, but in subsequent stages it was gradually reduced. This began with liberation from the practice through psychological, theological, and economic approaches, followed by the stage of physical liberation. Finally, it calls for the abolition and prevention of slavery. The Qur'an prohibits the practice of slavery in any form. The sources used were verses from the Qur'an, Hadith, and books of Tafsir, as well as national and international laws and regulations related to the prohibition of human trafficking.

Abstract

Interpretation as a result or product of the dialectic between the reasoning of an interpreter and the text, and the context that surrounds it, requires continuous dynamics, interpretation has no stopping point. That is why the product of interpretation needs to be studied. This writing aims to analyze the methods and sources of interpretation used in the book Tafsir al Kasyif by Muhammad Jawwad Mugniyah, especially in surah al Fatihah verses 1-7. The author uses a qualitative method through literature study with various reference sources, both primary and secondary based on books, journals, and others that support this research. The special methods presented by Tafsir al Kasyif include: presenting a special discussion on Isti'adzah and Basmallah; mentioning the name of the surah; writing one surah as a whole; presenting various opinions about where it was revealed; explaining the naming of surah al Fatihah first; Interpreting the Qur'an verse by verse; explaining the rules of language; explaining the meaning and prioritizing the opinion of Ali Zainal Abidin; Explaining vocabulary; explaining the differences in readings (qiraat). Muhammad Jawwad uses a general method: Tahlili, in presenting his tafsir work, along with a special method that tends towards linguistic rules to examine each meaning, and is accompanied by a variety of opinions that prioritize opinions oriented towards the fanaticism of his sect's ideology. If there are differences in readings or qiraat, he presents these differences, but does not explain them in depth and includes strong sources, only as informative.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sources of interpretation, general and specific methods used by as-Sayyid Muhammad Husain Thabāthaba’i in the book al-Mizan fi Tafsir al-Quran especially in the interpretation of Surah Al-Al-Qari’ah. This research is a qualitative study with a descriptive method, using primary data from the Tafsir book and secondary data from related books and scientific articles. Tafsir al-Mizan is a phenomenal work of Muhammad Husain Thabāthaba’i. His work is inseparable from the thoughts of the author who has a background of thought that is based on the ideological teachings he adheres to, namely Shia. Even so, the Tafsir uses the uslub of the Qur'an bil Qur'an and also contains many opinions of other commentators. So that the Tafsir is called a very complete Tafsir because it contains many fields of science. The special manhaj or method of writing Tafsir al-Mizan is to interpret the book sequentially in the mushafy, explaining the general picture and purpose of the letter or verse being interpreted, when interpreting a particular letter or verse citing the opinions of Al-Qur'an reviewers and also explaining their own opinions, having a separate section on the discussion of narrations, specializing in the discussion of philosophical aspects, and providing a general conclusion from the verse or letter being studied.

Abstract

This research aims to critically examine the verses of the Koran which are often associated with domestic violence (KDRT) and how gender interpretation can influence the interpretation of these verses. The main question of this research is how verses related to domestic violence are interpreted from a gender perspective, and to what extent these interpretations support or reject violence in domestic relationships. The research method used is a literature study with a hermeneutic approach and gender analysis. This research found that contextual interpretations that consider gender justice are more supportive of protecting women's rights and rejecting all forms of domestic violence. These results show that an inclusive and gender-just understanding in interpreting the Koran can contribute to efforts to reduce domestic violence in society.

Abstract

Today, the role of fathers in raising children is a frequently discussed issue. In patriarchal cultures, fathers serve as breadwinners to meet the family's needs. Meanwhile, mothers play a larger role in childcare and household management. This contrasts with the ideal, where fathers, as heads of families, also play a significant role in childcare. Therefore, the phenomenon of fatherhood is important to study and research in greater depth, especially from the perspectives of gender-biased and gender-just commentators. The purpose of this study is to analyze the pattern of fatherhood in the Qur'an and to reveal the views of gender-biased and gender-just commentators on fatherhood. This research method uses a qualitative approach, utilizing a literature review to collect data. This research shows several results including the following; 1) fatherhood has the meaning as the role, function, condition and time of a person becoming a father. 2) in general, scholars of gender bias interpretation argue that the father has a role as a breadwinner and provider in the family, while according to scholars of gender fair interpretation the father has the same role as the mother in terms of caring for and educating children. 3) with gender analysis, it can be seen that the interpretation carried out by scholars of gender fair regarding fatherhood has reflected the spirit of tauhidullah and fulfilled the objectives of the five maqashid sharia, namely maintaining reason (hifz al-aql), maintaining oneself (hifzl an-nafs), maintaining offspring (hifz an-nasl), maintaining property (hifz al-maal) and maintaining religion (hifz ad-din).

Abstract

The interpretation of the Qur'an has started since the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and continues to this day. Every interpretation product produced from the time of the Prophet SAW to the present day must have different approaches and conclusions. This is due to the fact that the need for interpretation at any time is always changing. This article aims to reveal the historical aspects of the emergence, basis, urgrnsi, steps and characteristics of the ijmali interpretation method. This research is a library research using qualitative method. The results of this study indicate that the ijmali interpretation method is one of the approaches in the interpretation of the Qur'an that developed since the early period of Islam, along with the needs of the people to understand the messages of the Qur'an simply and thoroughly. Historically, this method was used by the companions and previous scholars in explaining the meaning of the verses of the Qur'an without going into too much detail word by word, making it easier to be accepted by the laity. The importance of this method lies in its ability to convey the Qur'anic message in a concise yet thorough manner, making it an effective means of building a basic understanding of the Qur'an for readers from various backgrounds. Conveying the global meaning of the verse, maintaining the continuity of the narrative without focusing on in-depth linguistic analysis or grammatical aspects, is the hallmark of the ijmali method. As such, it is well suited for conveying the core teachings of Islam and the moral message of the Qur'an, especially in the context of education and dissemination of Islamic teachings to the wider community.

Abstract

Muqaran interpretation emerged as a method of interpreting the Qur'an that focuses on comparing various scholars' views on specific verses. Its emergence was driven by the need to understand and respond to differences in interpretation across both classical and modern traditions. The foundation and urgency of this method lie in its ability to broaden interpretive perspectives, foster tolerance towards differing opinions, and avoid sectarianism. This method emphasizes objectivity in understanding Qur'anic texts by considering diverse perspectives from past and contemporary scholars. The steps of the Muqaran method involve identifying relevant verses or themes, collecting various scholarly opinions, conducting a comparative analysis, and synthesizing deeper meanings. Muqaran exegesis compares similar or related Qur'anic verses, seemingly contradictory hadiths, and classical and contemporary scholarly views. Its strengths include broadening perspectives and promoting tolerance, while its weaknesses lie in overemphasis on comparison and less direct social solutions. In the contemporary era, the Muqaran method remains valid through approaches of coherence, correspondence, and pragmatism, providing answers to modern challenges and contributing contextually to social, cultural, and political problem-solving.

Abstract

Marriage will enable a person to achieve psychological and biological balance in life. One factor to consider in choosing a life partner is age. Age is crucial because it relates to psychological maturity. The impact of child marriage can cause children to experience profound trauma due to inhibiting factors such as reproductive health problems, impaired health, and domestic violence because the child is not yet ready for marriage. This type of research is qualitative and library research, so the data obtained comes from the study of relevant texts or books. This study uses a feminist interpretation approach that has the basic principles of the Qur'an regarding gender relations between men and women, in the assumption of feminist interpretation: justice (al-adalah), equality (al-musawah), appropriateness (al-ma'ruf), and deliberation (shura). Scholars of interpretation do not specify the exact age limit for marriage, but instead refer to two things: baligh (age of puberty) and rusydu (age of puberty). Baligh refers to physical maturity for men with wet dreams (ihtilam) and menstruation for women. Meanwhile, rusydu is interpreted as maturity in acting as appropriately as possible, which also means intelligence and mental stability when a child is entering the gates of adulthood.
