Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the movement of macroeconomic variables on financing using the musharaka contract on Islamic banks. This study consists of sharia commercial banks and sharia business units using monthly data from January 2004 to December 2019. This study uses Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to answer the research objectives. All variables tested have an influence on financing using the musharaka contract. Financing using the musharaka contract responds negatively to movements in the exchange rate and interest rates while inflation responds positively and negatively. Islamic banking needs to prepare more reserve funds in the face of such movements before achieving stability. The musharaka contract financing itself dominates the forecasting then followed by interest rates, inflation, and exchange rates. Therefore, Islamic banking needs to prepare a reserve fund in the face of these shocks before achieving stability. Abstract

This study aims to review the development of research related to Islamic banks' performance measurement and various alternative models. It uses a meta-analysis approach to identify other previous studies from various journals and relevant researches. The results show that the measurement of Islamic bank performance mostly uses financial performance measurements similar to conventional bank performance measurements, which use financial ratios and efficiency. There have been several serious efforts to develop alternative models for measuring Islamic banks' performance to reflect their nature and objectives better. These models include the Islamicity Index, Economic Contribution and Muslim Communities, Social Performance Index, Maqashid Index, and Islamic Bank Maqashid Index. However, eventually, these models are still in the early stages of development and have several weaknesses. Thus, it is still necessary to develop a model for measuring Islamic bank performance relevant to its philosophy and objectives.JEL Classification: G21, L25How to Cite:Setiawan, A. Abstract

The year 2023 is the deadline for sharia business units to decide on the business strategy to be carried out. This study aims to determine alternative strategies that can be carried out by sharia business units in accelerating business growth. The approach taken in this paper is a mixture of qualitative and quantitative approaches. A qualitative approach using SWOT analysis and interviews. While the quantitative approach using ARIMA. The ARIMA results show that no sharia business unit can achieve a 50% share of assets from its parent bank. This shows the spin-off strategy as mandated by the law needs to be evaluated. Alternative strategies that can be done is conversion, where there are already two banks that do this strategy. Also, another alternative strategy that can be taken is a merger between Islamic business units. Another alternative strategy is the acquisition of sharia business units by established sharia full-fledged banks.
