Abstract

This study aimed at investigating students’ beliefs about Arabic language learning across cultural background differences. The study used a questionnaire of Horwitz’s Beliefs about Language Learning (BALLI). The data were analysed by frequency, arithmetic means and independent sample test. The results indicated that the dimensions of Dayakese students’ beliefs including aptitude, difficulty, and nature of language learning, learning strategies were at a medium level, the dimension of motivation was high, while the dimension of Banjarese including difficulty, nature of language learning, learning strategies and motivation were medium, aptitude was high. Overall, beliefs about Arabic language learning of Dayakese and Banjarese students were medium.  From independent sample test, it was known that the p-value =0.174. This means that there was not a significant difference between Dayakese and Banjarese students. This indicated that the differences among people whose cultures are closed to each other demographically in their beliefs about Arabic language learning were not found.

Abstract

This is a descriptive qualitative research which aims to describe the implementation of Semester Learning Plan (RPS) on MaharahIstima’ Course by Using Cartoon Story Maker and its distinct characteristics from the previous RPS. The subject of this research is the Arabic language lecturers of IAIN Palangka Raya who teach MaharahIstima’ course. It uses observations, interviews, and documentations for the data collection techniques, and is validated using triangulation method. The results showed that there were nine learning activities of the implementation of Cartoon Story Maker based semester learning plan, namely; (1) Providing information to the students about the course’s learning objectives. (2) Giving apperception about the learning material. (3) Preparing and displaying Cartoon Story Maker media. (4) Students listen and prepare their stationeries (5) Students mention the main and supporting ideas. (6) Providing responses and corrections (7) Reminding the students to write the new vocabulary obtained. (8) Students make conclusions (9) Providing an explanation or summary about the material. The specification of this RPS with the previous one is that it is designed and clearly described the assessment indicators which include a series of more innovative activities, where learning is more centred on students and lecturers only act as facilitators and monitor the learning objectives. Lecturers only provide learning resources by creating Cartoon Story Maker as an interesting and effective learning media.

Abstract

The current covid-19 pandemic phenomenon has a major impact on the learning process at various universities in Indonesia. The adoption of the online lecture system caused by the pandemic has become a problem for some lecturers who are still unfamiliar with technological development. This situation is also experienced by a lecturer who teaches the Speaking Skill Course at a Higher Education in Central Kalimantan Province as a consequence of lacking motivation for the students to attend Speaking Course. To overcome this demotivation, the Arabic Students’ Association at the tertiary education institution organizes Speaking learning using the ”Peer Teaching Method. Therefore, this study aims to explore the speaking skill learning process. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type and uses two data collection techniques, namely observation and interviews. This study produced two findings.  First, there were several steps used by the organizational coordinator in implementing Speaking Skill learning using the peer teaching method, namely (1) selecting prospective tutors based on their scientific capacity and experience in the field of Arabic language learning, (2) Active learning process speaking skill organized by tutors using various interactive games such as nurakkizu, word chain, and ice breaking. Second, there are several motivational factors for students in participating in speaking skill learning using the peer teaching method, namely (1) The convenience of interaction between tutors and students is caused by the age distance that is not too far, (2) Peer tutor creativity in organizing innovative Speaking Skill learning, and (3) flexibility in communication time between tutors and students.

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the important aspects that must be mastered by students before learning a language as well as in learning English. In Indonesia, English has been included in the education curriculum since 1994, but the changes that occurred in the 2013 curriculum, which resulted in the loss of English as a subject at the elementary school level had an impact on students' knowledge of English, especially their knowledge of vocabulary. This assistance is provided to help students learn and memorize new English vocabulary in an effort to improve their memorization. The community service method used is Service Learning (SL). A total of 20 students participated as course participants who will be assisted in this service activity. Several stages of action were carried out: planning English vocabulary lessons, presenting English vocabulary materials, introducing and using English vocabulary, and encouraging children to interpret or define new English vocabulary that has been taught. The results of the assistance in this service show that the assistance activities in memorizing vocabulary for students of SDN Jabiren-2 help students increase their vocabulary acquisition.Keywords: Assistance, English vocabulary, Memorizing, SDN Jabiren-2  Kosakata merupakan salah satu aspek penting yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa sebelum belajar suatu bahasa seperti halnya dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Di Indonesia bahasa Inggris mulai dimuat dalam kurikulum pendidikan sejak tahun 1994, namun perubahan yang terjadi pada kurikulum 2013 yang membuat hilangnya bahasa Inggris sebagai mata pelajaran di tingkat sekolah dasar berdampak pada pengetahuan siswa terhadap bahasa Inggris khususnya pengetahuan mereka pada kosakata. Pendampingan ini diberikan untuk membantu siswa mempelajari dan menghafal kosakata bahasa Inggris yang baru dalam upaya untuk meningkatkan hafalan mereka. Metode pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang digunakan adalah Service Learning (SL). Sebanyak 20 siswa berpartisipasi sebagai peserta kursus yang akan didampingi dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini. Beberapa tahapan tindakan dilakukan: merencanakan pelajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris, menyajikan materi kosakata bahasa Inggris, memperkenalkan dan menggunakan kosakata bahasa Inggris, dan mendorong anak untuk menafsirkan atau mendefinisikan kosakata bahasa Inggris baru yang telah diajarkan. Hasil pendampingan dalam pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan pendampingan dalam menghafal kosakata pada siswa-siswi SDN Jabiren-2 membantu siswa dalam meningkatkan perolehan kosakata mereka.Kata kunci: Kosakata bahasa Inggris; Menghafal; Pendampingan; SDN Jabiren-2

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the efficacy aspects of Central Kalimantan Arabic teachers, such as level, strength, and generality to become a driving teacher. This study used a mixed method by combining qualitative and quantitative designs (concurrent triangulation) by recruiting 19 (nineteen) Arabic teachers at Madrasah Aliyah level from several districts/cities in Central Kalimantan province, Indonesia. The results of this study indicated that the three aspects of the Arabic teachers already have high self-efficacy to become a driving teacher with an average score of 3.79. This is based on their enthusiasm to learn how to use IT in the teaching process and their ability to instill character education and be able to be flexible in dealing with diverse student behavior. However, some difficulties arise from aspects of strength such as difficulties in reflecting and evaluating student-centered learning outcomes and involving the students’ parents.

Abstract

TPA Mushola At-Taqwa Desa Henda merupakan salah satu sektor pendidikan non formal dalam bidang keagamaan yang terhenti operasinya selama pandemi Covid-19. Revitalisasi dilakukan dengan tujuan penataan agenda pengajaran, pelaksanaan kegiatan mengaji, dan pemanfaatan kembali keberadaan TPA sebagai wadah bimbingan keislaman bagi anak-anak Desa Henda. Metode yang digunakan adalah penggabungan dari Service Learning (SL) dan Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) yang berupa pelayanan mengajar dengan libatan dari masyarakat adapun mitra yang terlibat dalam pelaksanan kagiatan ini yaitu,mahasiswa sebagai pelaksana, anak-anak dari SD-SMA desa Henda, ibu-ibu desa Henda sebagai partisipan serta bapak/ibu penyuluhan dari Kemenang yang ikut berkontribusi, dan. Kegiatan yang terlaksana meliputi pembelajaran al-qur’an dan mengaji, penulisan huruf arab hijaiyah, pembelajaran tata cara beribadah yakni wudhu dan sholat, dan pengenalan nyanyian islami yang terlaksana selama periode Juli-September dengan jadwal setiap Senin – Kamis pada pukul 13.30 – 15.00. Dari hasil pengabdian masyarakat melalui revitalisasi yang dilakukan adalah timbulnya kecintaan anak-anak Desa Henda terhadap Al-Qur’an dan semangat dalam mendalami dan mempelajari Islam meningkat, Selain itu TPA Mushola At-Taqwa teroptimalisasi pula pelaksanaanya, yang dilihat dari hasil evaluasi tes membaca Al-qur’an. Revitalization of the Qur'an Education Park at the At-Taqwa Mosque in Henda Village TPA At-Taqwa Mushola Henda Village is one of the non-formal education sectors in the religious field which stopped its operations during the Covid-19 pandemic. The revitalization was carried out with the aim of structuring the teaching agenda, implementing recitation activities, and reusing the existence of the TPA as a place for Islamic guidance for the children of Henda Village. The method used is a combination of Service Learning (SL) and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) in the form of teaching services with the involvement of the community. The partners involved in implementing this activity are students as executors, children from SD-SMA in Henda village, the women of Henda village as participants and the counselors from the Ministry of Justice who contributed, and. Activities carried out include learning the Koran and reciting the Koran, writing hijaiyah Arabic letters, learning procedures for worship, namely ablution and prayer, and the introduction of Islamic chants which are carried out during the July-September period with a schedule every Monday - Thursday at 13.30 - 15.00. From the results of community service through the revitalization that was carried out, the love of the Henda Village children for the Al-Qur'an and enthusiasm for studying and studying Islam increased, besides that TPA At-Taqwa Mosque also optimized its implementation, which was seen from the results of the evaluation of Al-Qur'an reading tests -Quran.
