Abstract

This research aims to obtain technology for improving the quality of CLC (Celullar Lightweight Concrete) bricks to be equivalent to AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete). This is a response to the rapid development, especially in the property sector, which is followed by the increasing need for bricks as the main material for building walls. CLC bricks are an alternative product other than red bricks that have the potential to pollute the environment because in the production process there is burning. The problem is that the quality of CLC bricks is relatively lower compared to AAC bricks. The method is to add bamboo fiber as a reinforcement and optimize the elements. The design of the experiment was made using the Taguchi Method, but preliminary experiments had previously been carried out to predict the percentage of elements. The research includes manufacturing process technology and quality testing on samples. Bamboo fiber-reinforced CLC bricks are obtained with an optimal composition of 0.5% fiber and a ratio of cement mass to sand mass of 1:1.6. This sample has a compressive strength of 1.1235 MPa and a bending strength of 1.1723 MPa. From this composition, samples were obtained with an average compressive strength of 1.1285 MPa and an average bending strength of 1.3551 MPa. Thus, it can be concluded that the addition of fiber can increase the strength of CLC bricks to be equal to or stronger than AAC bricks on the market.

Abstract

Abstract

Fatigue failure in the coal flow breaker plate of the CV507 screen at PT. Bukit Asam–Tarahan Port has led to production delays and increased maintenance requirements. This study investigates the optimal material selection for the coal flow breaker plate based on fatigue life under bulk impact loading. The structure, modelled as a fixed vertical plate, was analyzed using the Finite Element Method (FEM) with two material options: ST37 and ST52, each at thicknesses of 15 mm and 20 mm. Static structural and explicit dynamic simulations were performed in ANSYS, using an impact load of 15 kN measured from site conditions. The results indicate that ST52 with a 15 mm thickness experienced the highest von Mises stress (2,223.4 MPa) and deformation (14.41 mm). Increasing the thickness to 20 mm reduced stress to 1,465.4 MPa and deformation to 10.99 mm, extending fatigue life to 8.54 months, making it the most suitable option. These findings provide a basis for selecting materials that enhance durability and minimize downtime in coal processing operations.

Abstract

Submerged Floating Tunnel (SFT) is one of the alternative infrastructures for crossing transportation routes over deep and wide waters, but it still requires further studies on the dynamic responses caused by wave forces. Wave forces can induce vibrations and structural deformations, which, if not carefully accounted for, may lead to resonance phenomena. Despite various numerical and analytical models developed in previous studies, experimental validation under controlled wave excitation remains scarce, particularly regarding the influence of mooring configuration and structural mass. Moreover, limited studies have examined how these parameters affect the stiffness-damping balance, which is critical to avoiding dynamic amplification. This research addresses this gap by providing a combined experimental and analytical investigation on the coupled effects of mooring angle and tube mass. This research aims to evaluate the dynamic response of a Tension Leg-type SFT segment model subjected to wave disturbances. The SFT segment model, made of a 3-inch (76 mm) diameter tube with a length of 700 mm, is installed at a depth of 1/6 z below the water surface. The parameters tested include the effect of the cable anchor slope angle (variations: 15°, 30°, and 45°) and the effect of tube mass (variations: 0.5 kg, 0.75 kg, and 1 kg). The displacement response of the specimens is identified from video recordings using video tracking software. This research was conducted using the damped forced vibration theory approach, exploring the relationship among the three main elements of structural dynamics: mass (?), damping (?), and stiffness (?). The damping factor was determined experimentally using the logarithmic decrement method, while the equivalent horizontal stiffness was calculated based on the mooring configuration, taking into account the inclination angle, initial tension, and mechanical properties of the mooring cable. The experimental results show that increasing the inclination angle of the mooring cable leads to smaller structural displacements. Additionally, a greater tube mass results in larger displacements. The experimental data exhibit good agreement with the theoretical model of a single degree of freedom damped forced vibration, with deviations below 10%. Therefore, this study recommends using the largest feasible mooring angle and the smallest practical tube mass for optimal SFT design—within the constraints of real-world applications. This research provides a significant contribution to the understanding of the interrelationship among the fundamental elements of dynamic response and supports the development of continuous models of SFT through advanced numerical approaches, such as the Direct Integration – Mode Superposition Method (DI-MSM).
