Abstract

Abstrak-Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menemukan bentuk dan bagaimana proses komunikasi Njalapi pada suku Karo sebagai strategi pembelajaranketerampilan berbicara pada program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris Universitas Prima Indonesia.Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian diskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini melibatkan informan sebagai sumber informasi untuk data penelitian. Wawancara digunakan sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Penelitian dilakukan di tiga wilayah domisili suku karo yaitu kabupaten Deli Serdang, kabupaten Langkat, dan Kabupaten Karo.Teknik yang digunakan oleh peneliti untuk menganalisis data adalah teknik triangulasi data yang sudah dikumpulkan akan dianalisis berdasarkan tiga tahapan, yaitu: tahapan reduksi data, tahapan penyajian data dan tahapan penarikan kesimpulan. Luaran dari penelitian ini adalah strategi pembelajran yang dapat digunakan pada pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara dan publikasi artikel. Artikel ini adalah luaran wajib Penelitian Dosen Pemula 2019 Tahun Anggaran 2020 yang didanai oleh DRPM Ristekdikti. Kata kunci: njalpi, strategi pembelajaran, keterampilan berbicara

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to find out the improvement of the students’ writing narrative text by using Walt Disney Movie Trailer and to investigate the process of writing narrative text by using Walt Disney Movie Trailer. The sample of this research took one class, the third grade of SMP Negeri 38 Medan by using applying Classroom Action Research is done in two Cycles. To collect the data, the researcher took Quantitative and Qualitative data. The quantitative data was collected by giving writing Essay test. The qualitative data was taken from observation sheet to investigate the situation and the problems found during the teaching and learning process and diary notes aimed to note personal evaluation about the situation of the class when teaching and learning process in each Cycles, and interview sheet to interview the English teacher and students before and after conducting the research. The result of the students’ mean score for Cycle I was 71,35 , and the students’ mean score for Cycle II was 85,6. It also could be seen from the percentage of the students who got score 75. In the Cycle I was 60% got the score 75 and the Cycle II was 100%. During the research in every meeting the students present in the class and the students write narrative text based on steps in writing. It can be concluded that Walt Disney Movie Trailer significantly improve the students’ writing narrative text. It is suggested that English teachers to apply Walt Disney Movie Trailer in teaching writing especially in writing narrative text. Key words: Writing Narrative Text, Walt Disney Movie Trailer.

Abstract

Abstract-This research was conducted to find out the impact of writing comparative and superlative adjective to analyze students’ errors in writing and to observe the students’ error in writing. The main purpose of the research is to observe if students get the errors in their writing comparative and superlative adjective. Qualitative research is used. The findings indicated that the error of misinformation 43.28%, error of misordering 22,11%, error of addition 18,07%, and error of omission 16,52%. It showed that students encounter problems and difficulties in writing comparative and superlative adjective. The conclusion is that educators should provide more effective ways in teaching comparative and superlative adjective so that the students can be better in using that in writing. Abstract

Abstract The researchers conducted this research to find out some of the mistakes made by students in writing, especially in writing narrative text. The researchers involved several grade VIII students of SMP SWASTA VALENTINE DELI SERDANG in academic year 2020/2021. The researchers conducted a qualitative descriptive study with 15 students participating in the study by giving them a questionnaire test. This study found 4 types of grammatical errors in students' writing, namely spelling, verb tense, article, and capitalization with the following number of errors. 1: Spelling with 29 errors = 18.70%, Verb tense with 69 errors = 44.51%, Articles with 31 errors = 20% and Capitalization with 26 errors = 16.77% . The total accumulated grammar mistakes made by the students were 155. Keywords: analysis, grammatical errors, narrative text.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the improvement of students writing skill by using picture and picture method in SMP 21 Simalingkar B. The rational of this study to improve the writing lack on the descriptive text in SMP 21 Simalingkar B. This method of this study was Class Action Research and was carried out in cycle 1&2 in 25 students OF VIII B Medan. The writer collecting data using writing test, documentation, observation and interview. The data was analyzed by using qualitative and descriptive techniques. Based on the recapitulation in the cycle 1 and cycles 2 shown the improvement of students’ writing skill . The percentages in cycle 1 and cycles 2,were 44,8% for pretest, 48,8% for posttest in the cycle 1 and 71,84% for pretest , 81,44% for post test in cycle 2.By on the result of this study, the using of picture and picture method can improve students skills and classroom situation in writing text

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out the typical errors on students in writing narrative text by using simple past tense at grade IX of SMP SwastaTalitakum Medan. The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method in this research. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the errors of misinformation are the most frequent errors in which the ninth grade students committed 233 errors in regular verb. Moreover , it was followed by errors of misinformation with 150 errors, addition with 38 errors, omission with 29 errors and misordering with 16 errors. Then errors in regular verb, it was followed by errors of misordering with 36 errors, omission with 38 errors, addition with 56 errors and misinformation with 156 errors. It can be concluded that after analyzing through the research, the writer got the data about students’ errors, which are commonly made in narrative writing using simple past. Their errors are misinformation, addition, omission and misordering. Keywords: error analysis, simple past tense

Abstract

This research aims to classify and analyze students’ types and sources of errors in writing recount text using simple past tense. This research used descriptive qualitative research. Furthermore, researchers used a written test and chose the 2nd grade students of Senior High School and observed 20 students. It was found the students do all the types of errors. Selection errors was the most common types of errors with 94 or 44,98% of errors. The second was the omission errors with 56 or 26,79% of errors. The third was the addition errors with 43 or 20,57% of errors. Then the last was misordering errors with 16 or 07,66% of errors. Furthermore, the errors weren’t caused by Indonesian language’s system but the complexity of English language’s system. Moreover, the lack of students’ understandings of grammar was the cause of the errors. In this research, most of the students didn’t understand present and past form of the verbs. It can be concluded that students had difficulty in writing using properly grammar because the English language’s system. Keywords: error analysis, types of errors, sources of errors.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the errors made by the students in constructing the negative and interrogative sentences by using the simple present tense. Those errors were classified into four types, namely omission, addition, misformation, and misordering based on surface strategy taxonomy from Daulay. The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method to find the result. The subject of this research was the VIII-A class of SMP Negeri 40 Medan that consisted of 30 students. The instrument for gathering the data was the essay test, which included 20 affirmative sentences, which asked to form those sentences into the negative and interrogative sentences. The findings indicated that the students' errors in this study were 318 (50,4%) case of mistakes on misformation; 175 (27,8%) case of errors on addition; 100 (15,9%) case of errors on misordering; and 37 (5,9%) case of errors on omission. It can be concluded that misformation in the most frequent errors, while failure is the rarest error in this research. Keywords: error analysis, constructing negative and interrogative sentence

Abstract

This study analyzes the figurative language (simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, symbol, irony and idiom) in the song lyrics. This study also aims to determine the most dominant type of figurative language and then to identify the themes of the twelve songs in the song lyrics of Ariana Grande's album "thank u next." This study used descriptive qualitative research. From the results of the analysis, the researcher found that were 73 data using figurative, nine data for simile (12.32%), 17 data for metaphor (23.28%), eight data for personification (10.95%), 10 data for hyperbole (13.69%), nine data for symbols (12.32%), four data for irony (5.47%), and 16 data for idioms (21.91%). The most dominant is a metaphor. The themes contained in each song are Denial for the song Imagine, Needed for the song Needy, Space for the song NASA, Pretend for the song Bloodline and Fake Smile, Rebound Relationship for the song Bad Idea, Relationship for the song Makeup, Brief and Regret for the song Ghost in, Misinterpreted for the song In My Head, Friendship for the song 7 Rings, Empowerment and Self-Love for the song Thank U Next, and Self-Love for the song Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored. Abstract

This article is entitled with “ The Effect of Picture Series to the Students’ Ability in Writing Narrative Text”. This research is intended to know the effect of using picture to the students’ ability in writing narrative text. In order to answer the problem, the researchers use some theories, namely: Cohen and Riel (1989), Byrne (1997), Heaton (1988), Callahan (1992). In this article, the researchers use quantitative methodology. Researchers use students at SMAS Dharma Pancasila Medan grade XI as the population and use 58 students as the sample. The instrument in this article is a written test and the test is about writing Narrative text. From the data analysis, the researchers give the score of each student in every group and calculate it, the researchers find that the result of analyzing the data, the score of t-test is higher than t-table, where the t-table is 2.00 and t-test is 7.00. So, t-test is higher than t-table. The data analysis shows that there is a significant effect in using series of picture to the ability of the students in writing narrative text at grade XI of SMAS Dharma Pancasila. It meant that Ha was accepted H0 was rejected.
