Speaking is one of the speaking skills possessed by students. Speaking skills have been trained from an early age, but the results of speaking learning are still far applied. Many students still experience difficulties in learning to speak. such as shame, fear and anxiety and lack of confidence inhibiting learning factors in speaking to students lacking motivation, poor student learning habits, mastery of students' vocabulary is still low, as for student learning strategies are one aspect that determines the success of students in speaking, students can have student learning strategies by memorizing vocabulary, believing themselves and improving vocabulary pronunciation. This research was conducted to identify the difficulty of speaking in English faced by students and find out the strategies they used to overcome these difficulties. This researcher used a qualitative descriptive method involving as many as 17 students in grade 9 at 3 Medan Christian Middle School, research results this shows that students have difficulty speaking in English namely lack of grammatical understanding, lack of vocabulary, incorrect pronunciation of words fearing the response of others feeling nervous in making mistakes, lack of self-confidence and shame in the strategy that students do is asking help to others trying to compose sentences in different ways by using gestures, taking the rules in positive thinking, can be concluded that students have a sense of difficulty in speaking English.

Folklore is a traditional story and plays an important role in teaching character of children because it is full of moral values. Folklore become a guide lines and also become a role model to behave well because in folklore there is an implied meaning containing advices and moral messages. The purpose of this study is to find out the moral values of folklore Tongkat Tunggal Panaluan and the importance of those values to build good character of children. This study is qualitative research design and data was collected from reading the folktale text repeatedly and then analyzed the data with content analysis.Â The instruments of this research areÂ interview and documentation. The result of this study showed that there are four dominant values contain in folklore Tongkat Tunggal Panaluan include religious value, honesty value, responsibility value and social value that divided into two, helping each other and caring each other. From the research, theÂ researchers found that folklore of Tongkat Tunggal Panaluan had many moral massage which could teachÂ childrenâ€™s character

This study aims to examine the values of humanism contained inÂ Legend of Lau Kawar and how the process of applying the character values contained in Lau Kawar in the learning process. The values of humanism are the meanings contained in humanism in forming humans with integrity, having awareness, freedom, and responsibility as human nature. This study seeks to answer research questions; What are the character values found in Lau Kawar and how is the implementation of the character values found in Lau Kawar in the learning process. The object of this research is UPT SMP Negeri 21 Medan and the participants in this study were two informants from Lau Kawar village. This research shows that the vision and mission of the 2013 curriculum to shape students' character is not in accordance with reality. This research method uses qualitative methods with direct data collection. The current study concludes that there are several values of humanism in the Legend of Lau Kawar that can be implemented in the learning process to form good student characters, therefore the use of humanism values in the Legend of Lau Kawar must be taken into account by teachers and the school to shape characterstudents in accordance with the objectives of the 2013 curriculum.

The purpose of this research is to find out what characters value can be used as a tool to build students' character and how to form the moral message in the film Ayah Mengapa Aku Berbeda. To reveal these objectives thoroughly and in depth, this study used descriptive qualitative data analysis techniques and the researchers showed the film Ayah MengapaAkuBerbeda which is done with data collection techniques by means of interviews, direct observation to schools and to several junior high school students.From the results of the analysis, it is known that the series of events that occurred was the suffering of a deaf girl who lived her life with passion, patience, hard work and her shortcomings were not an obstacle to achieving her goals and being pious person to her parents. The film Ayah Mengapa Aku Berbeda has many characters that can be constructive and can also be applied to students' lives. And from these results, it can be concluded that the research in the film contains several characters namely religious, tolerance, independence, hard work, curiosity, communicative, disciplined, likes to read, honest, creative, appreciates achievement, social care, is responsible for words, and not dependent on others.

Abstrak-Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menemukan bentuk dan bagaimana proses komunikasi Njalapi pada suku Karo sebagai strategi pembelajaranketerampilan berbicara pada program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris Universitas Prima Indonesia.Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian diskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini melibatkan informan sebagai sumber informasi untuk data penelitian. Wawancara digunakan sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Penelitian dilakukan di tiga wilayah domisili suku karo yaitu kabupaten Deli Serdang, kabupaten Langkat, dan Kabupaten Karo.Teknik yang digunakan oleh peneliti untuk menganalisis data adalah teknik triangulasi data yang sudah dikumpulkan akan dianalisis berdasarkan tiga tahapan, yaitu: tahapan reduksi data, tahapan penyajian data dan tahapan penarikan kesimpulan. Luaran dari penelitian ini adalah strategi pembelajran yang dapat digunakan pada pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara dan publikasi artikel. Artikel ini adalah luaran wajib Penelitian Dosen Pemula 2019 Tahun Anggaran 2020 yang didanai oleh DRPM Ristekdikti. Kata kunci: njalpi, strategi pembelajaran, keterampilan berbicara

AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ABILITY THROUGH ANAGRAM IN SMK SANDHY PUTRA 2 MEDAN Yenita Sembiring Faculty of Teaching Training and Education. University of Prima Indonesia yenitasembiring@unprimdn.ac.id This research is aimed to find the students’ vocabulary ability through Anagram. The research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research design. The place of the research is SMK Sandhy Putra 2 Medan. The subject of the research were 29 students of the students in SMK Sandhy Putra 2 Medan. The instrument used in order to collect the data in this research is test. Test was given to the students in order to find the students’ vocabulary ability through Anagram. From the analysis of the data in the previous chapter, it was found that: There is one student got 72 ( 3,4%). There is one student who got 76 (3,4%), one students got 80 (3,4%), five students who got 84 (17,2%), twelve students who got 88 (41,3%), seven students who got 92 (24,1%), one students who got 96 (3,4%). From the data, the writer concluded that: (1) the students in SMK Sandhy Putra 2 has a good comprehension in vocabulary through anagram since their level of comprehension are good, very good and excellent. (2) From the findings above and from the observation done by the writer it can be concluded that students’ in SMK Sandhy Putra 2 Medan did not find any difficulties in vocabulary mastery through anagram.

This study aims to determine the students' ability to speak English with the classroomaction research technique to change the model of student learning with the Numberedheads together method. The research is SMK Telkom 2 Medan class X, there are stillmany students who can't speak English and lack confidence in their abilities. We asresearchers look for the problem points in these students and choose technical methodsthat make them active and can speak English. using the NHT method as a guide becausestudents are more active in learning with groups, with this method the level of students'speaking ability is increasing. Before using this method only 25.7% of students' ability tounderstand it. While after using this method 70.33% of students' increase in studentability. from si This method is very active for students because students learn in groupsmore actively and so they get satisfactory results. This research has a special ability,namely changing the learning system of students who do not understand, uniting themwith students who understand, and making them into competent teamwork. The problemthat occurred during this lesson was because of the COVID-19 pandemic, students werelearning online which made them a little constrained, but with the help of the school tostudy face-to-face, they became active in learning English.Keywords : English, technique, NHT, method, learning, and teamwork

Folklore is a traditional story that has been passed down from generation to generation which has an important role in moral value and character building.The purpose of this study is to describe the important of moral value to building good character though a folklore. This study is descriptive qualitative research design and all the date was collected from book, written document and other supporting information. The result and discussion of this study showed that there are five dominant values contain in folklore Kak Tangko Bunga such as give up beat work hard, help each other, don’t steal, do not lie, and don’t below others.From the research can be concluding that folklore Kak Tangko Bunga had many moral value and character building.

This thesis was aimed to find teacher communication strategies during classroom interaction. This research was conducted in SMP SWASTA Brigjend Katamso 1 Medan. The subject of this research was the English Teacher. We used a qualitative approach, more specifically classroom discourse analysis, in analyzing this study since the source of the data were communication strategies which are used by an English teacher in communicating with her students during an English teaching-learning activity. We took the data by recording 90 minutes of English Lessons. We used Faerch and Kasper as a framework for this data analysis, for the reason of its specification and newness. The result showed that the five strategies used were repetition. From those strategies, code-switching was the strategy that was most frequently used by the teacher during the process of teaching and learning. The teacher`s reasons for applying those communication strategies were to overcome the communication barriers that occur between the teacher and the students to help the students understand and memorize the material more accessible. The result of the interview also showed that the students had a good perception of the implementation of communication strategies used by the teacher in the classroom. The research aims to find out the student's strategies in translating idioms. The method used in this study qualitative descriptive, this study was conducted at SMA SwastaPencawan Medan with the samples were 23 students of XI-MIA-2. The researcher used an essay test with 25 questions to translate idioms sentences. The result collection collected data from the students convert sentence researchers provided the database on the results of students' strategies in translating idioms on an essay test. Using a phrase of similar meaning in form result show there were 61 (34,27%), using a language of same meaning but dissimilar form in form show there were 19 (10,67%), translating by paraphrase in form result show there were 70 (39,33%) and translation by omission in form show there were 28 (15,73%). The result showed that many students translate idioms sentences with translation by paraphrase. The dominant strategies students are predominantly translation by paraphrase, and most students cannot turn the idiom in to the sentence that has been given.
