Abstract

WITH SELF ORGANIZING MAP METHOD USING R ABSTRACTCluster analysis is one of multivariate analysis technique that is purposed to alocate a group of object of independent groups, the so-called cluster, so as to each object in a same group is homogeneous, whilst each object in different group is heterogeneous. In this research, the process of cluster analysis is conducted by employing Self Organizing Map method. Self Organizing Map is one of method in artificial neural network that use unsupervised learning. However, the process of grouping of Self Organizing Map took a long time and it can generate mistakes in its calculation if it is conducted manually, for that concern this research provides a program application for the grouping process with Self Organizing Map using R programming language. Output of the application program  is a clustering process that consist of calculation result for each iteration and object grouping result provided in Console worksheet in R software. After the application program is completely created, finally it is applied to data of Human Development Index of Aceh province in 2013. From the application program, by first determining the cluster to be formed ie 4 clusters obtained by the number of cluster members to 1,2,3 and 4 respectively are 10, 2, 1, and 11.Key Words: Cluster Analysis, Self-Organizing Map, R-language

Abstract

This research discusses students' perceptions of mathematics learning based on their brain dominance. Descriptive qualitative methods were used with questionnaires and interviews. The research subjects were 26 students who filled out a questionnaire in the form of a brain dominance questionnaire, with details of 6 students who were interviewed in depth. Data analysis was carried out through discourse analysis of the interview results by considering the respondent's environmental context. The results of the research show that there are differences in perception between students who are right and left brain dominant and students who use both equally. Some students have different ease and difficulties in learning mathematics, as well as different views about the benefits of this material in everyday life. Apart from brain dominance, there are several other factors that influence students' perceptions, including the way teachers teach and the learning environment. Knowing students' brain dominance is important, because it can help teachers determine how to teach material appropriately so that it gets a good perception for all students, whether they are right-brain dominant, left-brain dominant, or those who tend to be balanced. In conclusion, students' perceptions of mathematics learning can be different, depending on their brain dominance.

Abstract

Students typically have less interest in learning mathematics because it is still seen as a challenging subject. As a result, when compared to other disciplines, the pupils' mathematics understanding abilities remained below average. The aim of this study was to find out how employing visual aids, such as PowerPoint, to teach geometric shapes to students improved their mathematical comprehension skills. This kind of study uses a random subject posttest design and is therefore quasi-experimental. The population of this study consisted of students in class VIII SMPN 1 Pagelaran; the samples were drawn using the purposive sampling technique from students in class VIII C, which was the experimental class, and class VIII D, which was the control class. The t-test, homogeneity test, and normalcy test are the data analysis methods employed. With a significant rate of0.05, the testing results for the hypothesis produced tstat= 3.2 > ttable= 1.6801. This indicates that while Ha is acceptable, Ho is denied. This demonstrates how employing PowerPoint-assisted visual aids in mathematics instruction increases students' capacity for mathematical knowledge.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of ethnomathematics in geometry, in addition to the challenges and benefits of this approach. This study also emphasizes the dearth of bibliometric studies in this area and provides a Scopus-based bibliometric analysis of research on geometry in ethnomathematics. This study examines the evolution of research publications, the most cited articles, the most prolific writers, and current trends in research. This paper uses bibliometric analysis using Rstudio Biblioshiny as its methodology. The study discovered that studying geometry from an ethnomathematics perspective provides benefits such as enhancing learning interaction activities and conceptual comprehension. However, the lack of understanding about the ethnomathematics approach and how to incorporate it into teaching geometry, the teacher's lack of knowledge about geometry content knowledge, and the teacher's aversion to change are impediments to the use of this technique. Researchers that desire to discover research gaps for future studies are anticipated to find this study's findings valuable.

Abstract

A field known as bibliometrics is one that allows for the evaluation of different scientific publications using a variety of different indicators. The purpose of this research is to carry out a bibliometric analysis of the amount of work that has been done in the field of local instruction theory between the years 2009 and 2020. All of the journal articles that were retrieved from the Scopus database between the years 2009 and 2020 were incorporated. As bibliographic indicators, we used things like the number of publications, the most productive institutions, the type of collaboration, the most productive countries, the most cited papers, and authors who had the highest overall academic production. It is then sent to the SciVal tools in order to undergo analysis. The research on local teaching theory was drawn from a total of 29 published publications, with 50 different writers contributing to the collection of 41 citations. The most documents have been produced in Indonesia, which is the world's largest country. The institution that has the biggest scientific influence and production is Sriwijaya University, which also has the highest scientific production. Ratu Ilma Indra Putri is the author who has had the most manuscripts published throughout the course of her career. Last but not least, the majority of articles involve collaboration between institutions. Local instruction theory research is still new and hasn't made a global impact. Academics can submit relevant article citations, putting them at the forefront of the latest research.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy remains a significant concern among students in Indonesia, as reflected in low scores on international assessments such as PISA and TIMSS. This study aimed to examine the impact of mathematical understanding, reasoning, and resilience on the mathematical literacy of 100 8th-grade students in public junior high schools in Karimun Regency. A quantitative approach with a survey design was employed, and data were collected using validated questionnaires and tests. The data were examined using multiple linear regression approach. The results indicated a significant positive relationship between mathematical understanding, reasoning, and resilience on students' mathematical literacy. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive teaching strategies that integrate these three aspects to effectively enhance mathematical literacy. More varied teaching methods and strong support from educators are recommended to optimize students' mathematical literacy.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in vocational high schools is still teacher-centred and relies on structured exercises, leaving little room for students to develop a conceptual understanding. The open-ended approach can be a solution because it allows students to explore various strategies for solving mathematical problems in depth. However, its implementation in vocational high schools remains limited. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the open-ended approach in improving the mathematical understanding of vocational high school students. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design was used. The sample consisted of 72 students in the 11th-grade of Computer and Network Engineering, selected based on previously formed classes. Data were obtained through a mathematical understanding test that measured students' ability to identify, use, and apply the concepts of sequences and series to solve everyday problems. The test instrument consisted of three essay questions, with a maximum score of four for each item. As the data were not normally distributed, the Mann-Whitney U test analysis was used. The results showed that the increase in mathematical understanding of the group of students who received the open-ended approach was significantly better than that of the group who received direct learning.
