Abstract

Soil moisture is an important element for the agricultural or plantation hydrological cycle. Soil moisture has different variations for each location or observation area. This variation can show a certain pattern or spatial dependence between observations. The tool for measuring this spatial dependence is a semivariogram. The semivariogram is needed to build a model that can interpolate or predict variables at locations around unknown observations. The method of interpolating or predicting variables at this location is called the kriging method. Several kriging methods that are often used based on the average assumption are: Simple Kriging, Ordinary Kriging and Universal Kriging. Simple Kriging assumes that the mean is constant and known, Ordinary Kriging assumes that the mean is constant and unknown, while Universal Kriging assumes that the mean is not constant and changes according to location. In this case, semivariogram modeling and the kriging method will be applied to predict soil moisture in Central Buton Regency. that is the Exponential Semivariogram model good enough to describe the spatial configuration of potential earthquake strength in the Banda Sea using the Ordinary Kriging method. The research results show that matching the semivariogram model for the three models, including the Spherical, Exponential and Gaussian models, shows different accuracy in describing spatial patterns of soil moisture in Central Buton Regency. The three models have the same sill of 0.6783, indicating the maximum level of variation between observation locations is reached after a certain distance.
