Abstract

Introduction: Poor sleep among young people, particularly adolescents, is becoming increasingly common and has adverse effects on mental health, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. This study was conducted to examine how sleep quality relates to the mental health of junior high school students. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with total sampling of seventh-grade students at Junior High School PGRI 01 Wagir, Malang Regency. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to measure sleep quality, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) was used to measure mental health. The data obtained were then analysed using Spearman's rank correlation method. Results: A total of 120 respondents participated in this study. This study found that 84 respondents (69.4%) had moderate sleep quality, 31 (25.6%) had good sleep quality, and 5 (4.1%) had poor sleep quality. Regarding mental health status, more than half, 62 respondents (51.7%) were classified normal, 51 respondents (42.5%) were in the moderate category, and only 7 (5.8%) fell into the severe category. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between sleep quality and mental health in adolescents, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.647 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Sleep quality has a significant impact on mental health among junior high school students. Therefore, nurses should design interventions targeting sleep improvement, which should be included in mental health promotion and prevention programs carried out in schools.

Abstract

Introduction: Gastritis is an inflammation of the gastric mucosa that frequently occurs among female adolescents due to unhealthy dietary patterns such as irregular eating schedules, frequent consumption of irritating foods, and low awareness about digestive health. Knowledge plays an important role in shaping eating behaviors, yet many adolescents tend to underestimate the risk factors of gastritis. This study aimed to determine the relationship between gastritis knowledge and dietary patterns among female senior high school students. Methods: This study used a correlational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was all 116 eleventh-grade female students of Public Vocational High School Malang City, and was selected using total sampling. Data collection used a knowledge questionnaire and a dietary questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The results showed that most respondents had adequate knowledge (61.2%), while 14.7% had good knowledge and 24.1% had poor knowledge. Most respondents (41.4%) had poor dietary habits. Statistical tests showed a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between knowledge levels about gastritis and dietary habits. Conclusions: Nurses should design intervention to improve gastritis knowledge to help promote healthier eating behaviors to prevent gastritis.

Introduction: Clean and healty living behavior (PHBS) is an important indicator of school-aged children’s health. Good knowledge is expected to influence the implementation of PHBS. This study aimed to examine the relationship between knowledge and PHBS behavior among school-aged children at Public Elementary School of Kemiri 2, Kepanjen District, Malang Regency . Methods: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design. The s,ample consisted of 87 students in grades 3–6 selected using total sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between knowledge and implementation of PHBS. Results: Most students had good knowledge (79.3%), but the majority showed adequate implementation of PHBS (74.7%). The statistical analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge and implementation of PHBS (p = 0.000). Conclusions: Based on these findings, nurses, in collaboration with schools and families, should design interventions to improve implementation of PHBS, which needs to be supported through habit formation, role models from teachers and parents, and the provision of a supportive school environment.
