Abstract

This research investigates the effect of group guidance using simulation game techniques to improve the emotional intelligence of students in Class X-RPL at SMKN 10 Semarang. This study uses an experimental pre-test and post-test control group design. Based on the results of research conducted on class X - RPL students at SMKN 10 Semarang, it was concluded that group guidance services using simulation game techniques affected increasing emotional intelligence. This is proven by the results of the experimental group questionnaire, which obtained an increase in the mean or average score from the pretest of 57.6 to the posttest of 63.11, in other words, an increase of 9.5%. Furthermore, the T-test results obtained a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.001. This means that providing treatment with group guidance and simulation game techniques has a significant influence on increasing the emotional intelligence of class X-RPL students at SMKN 10 Semarang.

The finding that there is still a career choice related to parental parenting patterns is the basis of this research. The purpose of this research is to find the relationship between the role of parental parenting patterns on the career choices of class XII students of SMK Negeri 1 Semarang. In this research, the method used is quantitative with the type of correlational research, the population in this study was 558. The sample of this research was 120 students who were determined by random sampling technique. The data collection technique used a self-control scale and an academic procrastination scale. Based on the results of the hypothesis of this research is "there is a significant relationship between the role of parental parenting patterns on the career choices of class XII students of SMK Negeri 1 Semarang." The results of the Pearson product moment correlation test obtained a Pearson Correlation value of 0.038 which means the correlation level is low. The results of the hypothesis test at a significance level of α = 0.05 and analyzed r count by finding r table using the Pearson product moment table at a level of 5% = 0.176. So that a comparison is obtained based on the values obtained: 0.038 < 0.176 (Ho) is rejected and (Ha) is accepted, so there is a significant relationship between parenting patterns and career choice.

Abstract

Problematic social media use can disrupt adolescents’ learning, direct social interaction, and emotional regulation, yet evidence concerning brief school-based counseling responses remains limited. This study examined whether group counseling incorporating self-control techniques reduced social media addiction among eighth-grade students. A quantitative pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used. From a population of 256 students, 10 students with high pretest scores were selected purposively. Participants completed a four-response Likert-style social media addiction scale before and after six counseling sessions. Descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk tests, and a paired-samples t-test were applied. The mean score decreased from 107.5 to 85.0, representing a 22.5-point or 20.9% reduction. The paired comparison was statistically significant, t(9) = 6.945, p < .001; a supplementary effect-size calculation based on the reported test statistic indicated a very large within-participant effect (Cohen’s dz = 2.20). These findings suggest that structured group counseling may strengthen adolescents’ capacity to monitor urges, regulate access, schedule alternative activities, and use social media more adaptively. School counselors may use the intervention as a targeted early-response strategy, while avoiding the assumption that all intensive use is pathological. Future research should employ randomized or controlled designs, larger multisite samples, follow-up measurement, objective usage indicators, and fully reported instrument validity, reliability, and ethical approval information.
