Abstract

The importance of applying English lessons as the primary learning from an early age is to improve students' ability to speak English, which can be used in international communication in the future. One of the critical lessons is listening, improving students' listening skills is very important, where students' listening ability in Swasta Amalyatul Huda Junior High School is still low. So this study aims to improve students' listening skills by using TikTok media. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) by conducting two experiments, namely, Cycle I and Cycle II. The research instrument uses observation sheets, interviews, and questionnaires. The sample of this study was taken from 22 students in grade 7 at Swasta Amalyatul Huda junior high school. Based on the research that has been done, the results found by the researchers are the average values found from the two cycles, namely, Cycle I with an average value of 64.5 with a sufficient predicate (C), while in Cycle II, the average value is 78.2 with a good predicate ( B). Based on the study results, it shows that TikTok media can improve students' English listening skills.

Abstract

Listening, speaking, writing, and reading are four activities that encourage each other in the communication process, known as the four skills language. When one of the four Language Skills speaks, it takes center stage. This student needs more opportunities to speak English in public, either at or outside of school. Students not used to communicating in English could struggle to compete with international students. Language is also regarded as a difficult lesson by students because they become easily bored during the learning process. This factor influences participants' desire to study English at a higher level. Lessons are uninteresting to students, and as a result, they need to accept learning optimally. Researchers use survey results to collect student responses to learn how to use storytelling to improve students' language skills. Ten students from MIPA-1 SMAS Yayasan Pendidikan Pangeran Antasari Class X Participant research is in the works. The questionnaire responses are reviewed and revised to produce reliable results. According to research findings, 90% of students are satisfied with their English language lessons, while 60% of dissatisfied students believe that English language lessons are too difficult. Approximately 90% of English students, particularly those enrolled in the Skills Speak course, are overjoyed. The brave student has only completed half of his in-class English speaking.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada ketepatan bahasa yang digunakan oleh si penutur sesuai dengan konteks yang berkaitan dengan tempat, waktu, situasi, dan latar belakang penutur baik itu budaya, sosial, pekerjaan, dan lingkungannya. Dalam kumunikasi tulisan diperlukan juga kesantunan berbahasa, salah satunya dalam memasarkan barang di marketplace, si penjual harus mendiskripsikan iklan dengan bahasa yang menarik dan sopan karena produk yang dipasarkan melalui media sosial harus santun agar dapat mudah dipahami, dan bernilai positif karena akan dilihat oleh masyarakat. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana kesantunan bahasa digunakan dalam iklan sepeda motor bekas di marketplace dan apakah ada pelanggaran kesantunan berbahasa. Metode penelitian adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan pragmatik.  Hasil penelitian, terdapat kesantunan berbahasa pada maksim kesimpatian dan maksim penerimaan. Maksim kesimpatian untuk menarik rasa simpati konsumen untuk membeli produk yang ditawarkan dan maksim penerimaan memberikan rasa keuntungan bagi konsumen jika membeli produk yang ditawarkan oleh si penjual. Selanjutnya, pelanggaran kesantunan berbahasa terdapat pada maksim tidak kesimpatian dan maksim kemurahan.

Abstract

The study identified and analyzed the types of sentences found in the text and what types of sentences were the dominantly used. Researchers use qualitative descriptive research methods by using analysis documents to obtain the desired results. Researchers collected 88 sentences data. The result showed that first, the types of sentences are declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamative sentence. Declarative sentence consists of 18 data, interrogative sentence consists of 30 data, imperative sentence consists of 24 data and exclamative sentence consists of 16 data. Second, the data analyzed showed that the interrogative sentence is the most frequency dominant used, while the least frequency dominant is exclamative sentence.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out if there was significant effect of applying Group Investigation Strategy on students’ Achievement in Writing Procedure text. The population of this study was the second year students of SMK Sandhy Putra Medan, which consisted of seven parallel classes. Two classes were as the sample of the research. Every class consisted of 35 students. Therefore, there were 70 students became the sample of the study. The total number of students was divided into two groups, namely 35 students for experimental groups and another 35 students for control group. The experimental group was taught by Group Investigation Strategy, while control group was taught by using Explanation. The instruments of collecting data used the writing test. To obtain the reliability of the test, the researcher used Spearman Brown formula. The pre-test and post-test were administrated and then the data were analyzed by using the t-test formula. The result showed that the t-test was (3.57) is higher than t-table value (2.04) at the level of significance (0.05) for 𝛼 - two tail test (3.57>2.04), and the degree of freedom (df) was 68 Based on the analysis of the study, the result indicated that the he was accepted. It means that there is significant effect of applying Group Investigation Strategy on Students’ Achievement in Writing Procedure Text
