Abstract

Abstrak Makalah ini betujuan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana cara penggunaan Act Out ( A Guessing Game with Mime ) Activity sebagai kegiatan yang dapat digunakan oleh guru di Sekolah Menengah Pertama ( SMP ) untuk mengajarkan kalimat perintah ( Imperative Sentence ). Dalam membuat kalimat perintah di dalam bahasa inggris siswa mengalami kesulitan untuk membedakan antara subjek, predikat, dan juga keterangan di dalam kalimat tersebut. Kegiatan ini diterapkan dalam pengajaran teks prosedur dengan memperlihatkan beberapa gambar kepada siswa. Pada kegiatan ini, ada beberapa tahapan yang harus di lalui. Pertama, guru akan memperlihatkan beberapa gambar kepada siswa, lalu guru menyuruh siswa menyebutkan gambar tersebut dalam bahasa inggris lalu menirukannya. Kedua, siswa akan dibentuk ke dalam beberapa kelompok yang terdiri atas empat atau lima orang, masing – masingnya kelompok akan menunjuk salah seorang temannya untuk menirukan gambar yang diberikan oleh guru. Setiap kelompok akan mendapat giliran untuk tampil. Saat salah seorang dari masing-masing kelompok tersebut akan menirukan gambar yamg ada, sedangkan siswa yang lainnya pada kelompok yang sama akan menebak apa yang ditirukan oleh siswa tersebut. Kegiatan ini diterapkan dalam Whilst Teaching Activity . Key words: Act out activity, guessing game, mime, imperative sentence.

Abstract

Abstrak Artikel ini ditulis untuk memaparkan suatu strategi pembelajaran sekaligus pemilihan materi pembelajaran memahami teks narrative bahasa inggris disekolah menengah pertama dengan cara melalui bacaan bebas seperti komik, karena komik juga bisa dapat dijadikan sebagai media yang digunakan dalam pengajaran dalam memahami teks narrative. Kegiatan yang dibahas dalam artikel ini adalah kegiatan awal, kegiatan inti, dan kegiatan akhir. Pada kegiatan awal guru memberitahu siswa bahwa mereka akan membahas tentang  teks narrative.  Pada kegiatan inti, Pada kegiatan inti, guru akan membahas sedikit tentang teks narrative kepada siswa dengan melalui bacaan contohnya komik. Kemudian kegiatan akhir, guru memberikan refleksi tentang pelajaran dan menyimpulkan pelajaran dengan siswa. dan kemudian guru melakukan tanya jawab mengenai bahan bacaan tersebut kepada siswa. Keunggulan dari media ini adalah siswa dibantu untuk mengembangkan ide idenya dalam membaca contoh teks narrative melalui komik.   Keywords      : Narrative teks, Free Voluntary Reading, comics, technique

Abstract

Abstrak   Makalah ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana cara menggunakan CPC (Content Process Craft) table dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca didalam pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris siswa SMA sering mengalami kesulitan dalam membaca dikarenakan mereka tidak begitu memahami bacaan yang mereka baca. Kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks masih sangat kurang disebabkan karena kurang bervariasinya strategi ataupun aktifitas yang digunakan selama membaca. CPC (Content Process Craft) table digunakan untuk mempermudah siswa dalam menyusun informasi, memberikan pendapat, serta menggabungkaninformasi dan pendapat mereka menjadi sebuah gagasan yang baru. Penggunaan CPC (Content Process Craft) table akan mempermudah guru dan siswa dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca. Dengan menggunakan tabel CPC (Content Process Craft) pada pengajaran membaca, kemampuan siswa dalam menganalisa bacaan akan semakin terasah sehingga pemahaman mereka menjadi lebih baik.   Keywords: CPC (Content Process Craft) Table

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the ability of students on writing descriptive text in a new normal era through content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanical aspect at students grade eleven of SMAN 10 Padang. This research used quantitative descriptive methods to analyze the students’ writing ability. The sample was taken by using simple random sampling of 57 respondents who were students. Data was obtained from writing tests done by the students in grade eleven and interviews with the English teacher of SMAN 10 Padang. The data is analyzed by combining Heaton's theory of assessment and Jacob's scale of writing. The result of the research concluded that students' ability in writing the descriptive text was at a good level with mean score in 67. Meanwhile, students' ability in writing content, language feature and mechanic were fair to poor. Then, students' ability in writing organization and vocabulary  was good to average.  The highest score from the aspect was  in organization aspect with the percentage of 74%. It concluded that students had difficulty in developing the content, students lack understanding of simple present tense structures, and errors in mechanics.  In addition. The interview result with the english teacher also explain some problem faced by the students in writing  such as difficult to organized the text because they do not understand the component of descriptive text and difficult to make a sentence.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze and obtain empirical data on students' speaking ability through role-play technique in new normal era at grade 8 of SMPN 13 Padang. This research used quantitative descriptive methods. The informants in this study were 46 grade 8 students and an 8th grade English teacher at SMP Negeri 13 Padang. The data collection technique used in this study was a speaking test using a role-play technique which was assessed based on speaking indicators and packaged in the form of an assessment rubric and an interview with one of the grade 8 English teachers at SMP Negeri 13 Padang. The results of this study show that the speaking ability of students in grade 8 of SMP Negeri 13 Padang is at the average level with the mean score of 57. The highest component is comprehension with a percentage of 63%. In addition, the results of interviews with the English teacher show that there are several problems in speaking teaching, namely the lack of student confidence, the stigma of students who think that English lessons are difficult, and the lack of mastery of vocabulary. Online learning carried out before the new normal era also affects students' self-confidence. Therefore, teachers apply various methods and strategies in English PBM, especially speaking.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not using the Grammar Tool: Pronoun application has a significant impact on students' understanding of possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives. Participants in this study are seventh-grade students at SMPN 52 in Jakarta. There are 216 students that classified into six classes. VII A is selected as the experimental class by the researcher utilizing a cluster random sampling method to select one class. This research was held over eight meetings and this research was carried out outside of school hours. The researcher used the multiple choice test as the instrument to collect the data. There were 40 questions but after the validity and reliability test, only 29 questions that can be used as the instrument for this research. After the research is done, it is possible to say that using the Grammar Tool: Pronoun has an effect on how well students understand possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives there was an improvement of the students understanding on possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives. It can be proved by the data findings and discussion. The results of the data analysis indicated that the null hypothesis examined in the study cannot be accepted because the significant value of the 2-tailed test was less than 0.05 (0.05). The alternative hypothesis, which indicated that the use of the Grammar Tool: Pronoun is effective on students' understanding of possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives, was accepted as a result of this study.

Abstract

While there is a lot of research that focuses on discovering students' perceptions of online learning, studies on perceptions of online vs. offline is generally ignored. Therefore, this study tries to fill this void. The main objective of this study was to determine students' perceptions of offline vs. online. In this study, researcher used a quantitative descriptive method. 142 students were selected as participants for this study. They were students of class XII IPA and XII IPS SMAN 1 Pahae Julu. In collecting data, the researcher used a questionnaire with a Likert scale and the researcher distributed the questionnaire directly to each participant class. The results of the study found that students showed a very positive perception towards offline learning which can be seen from the average score on each indicator. These findings then showed that students prefer offline learning than online learning so that offline learning is more recommended for use when teaching.

Abstract

E-student English worksheets with Islamic values integration give many advantages to the students and teachers in Islamic senior high school. However, based on the observation, there is no E-student English worksheet with Islamic values integration. Therefore, to know the needs of students on E-student English worksheets with Islamic values integration, it is important to do a study about needs analysis of E-student English worksheets with Islamic values integration. This study aims to find out what are the needs of E-student English worksheets with Islamic values integration at MAN 1 AGAM. This research was quantitative descriptive with the data collection technique using an online close-ended questionnaire. The respondents in this study were 75 students of XI MAN I AGAM. They were given 24 close-ended questions. The result showed that all the aspect of students’ need on E-student English worksheets with Islamic values integration shows 88% in the criteria ‘most need’. Thus, almost all the students need E-student English worksheets with Islamic values integration at MAN 1 AGAM. In addition, further research related to E-student English worksheets with Islamic values integration is suggested to do

Abstract

This research was done to investigate the challenges faced by English teachers in implementing Merdeka curriculum at SMAN 3Solok Selatan. To find out the answers, researcher used descriptive qualitative method with in-depth interview and documentation instrument were employed in this study. The participants of the study were three English teachers at SMAN 3 Solok Selatan. The result showed that there were five challenges faced by English teachers in implementing Merdeka curriculum. Those five challenges in implementing Merdeka curriculum were designing lesson plan, lesson implementation, using media, classroom management, and learning assessment. Through this research, it is expected the result from this finding can help the English teachers to cover the challenges in implementing Merdeka curriculum.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the impact of learning loss on the psychological condition of students in the speaking class of the Department of English Education, Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Padang during the Corona Pandemic. The design of this research is descriptive research. The population for this study was all first-year students of the 2021 academic year of the Department of English Education, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Padang and the sample was 22 students from the international class. This study used an online questionnaire and the questionnaire was made of close-ended questions. The most used platforms by students and lecturers are LMS/E-Learning and Zoom Meeting. Students do not experience learning loss in terms of student psychology because students can master learning and reflect on it during online learning, and students can adapt to learning changes that occur due to the pandemic, students master the knowledge and can reflect on the learning process, and students can associate new information with relevant concepts in their cognitive structure. Learning loss has no impact on students' psychological conditions. Learning loss does not have an impact on students because students have ways to overcome the psychological stress that arises during online learning and students who have a high level of resilience in dealing with their problems have a smaller risk of experiencing depression. Students with a high level of resilience will recover faster from pressure and cope with their problems more actively.
