Abstract

Extant research has confirmed that influence of local factors (social, cultural, political and economic) on the implementation of CSR across worldwide. The rise of conflict between firms and communities emphasizes the understanding of socio-cultural aspects in the context of communities. This study aimed to explore the effects of Tri Hita Karana local wisdom on the CSR initiatives through a case study in Aqua Danone, Bali. This study has employed a qualitative paradigm where in-depth interviews were conducted with local community members, local community leaders, NGO employees, and managers who are involved with CSR initiatives and strategies on daily basis. Secondary data such reports about CSR programs were also employed in this study. The finding shows that local wisdom of Tri Hita Karana (THK) that integrated worship, man and nature has been adopted as a CSR guidance and appears across all levels of CSR starting from the program planning phase and going through the preparation of strategies until the process of implementation and control. This study also concluded that CSR program should consider local forums such as sangkep (routine meeting held by the village) and the enforcement of local rules (pararem) to engage the local communities to run it sustainably. This research recommends the application of local wisdom relevant to CSR implementation.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, social responsibility has become a key subject since it refers to the contribution of non-state actors in resolving the pandemic impact, becoming a non-traditional security issue. One non-state actor playing a significant role in society is educational institutions through university social responsibility (USR) programs. This study aims to analyze the form of USR programs and their benefits for communities affected by the pandemic. This study selected three universities as the case studies, encompassing Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Universitas Pertamina and Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB). During the Covid-19 pandemic, these three universities implemented USR in the social field under the triple bottom line concept. This research employed in-depth interviews and secondary data collected through website reviews and clippings from the mass media. The results unveiled that UMY, Universitas Pertamina and IPB implemented USR in community empowerment in education, health, and technological innovation. These three universities established community empowerment schemes by involving students, lecturers and other stakeholders to demonstrate their contribution to dealing with and solving community problems caused by the pandemic. These three universities have always been oriented toward innovation, especially in education, research and community service. Innovation is significant because it helps increase skills, add value to the wider community, and impact sustainable development.

Abstract

This research focuses on the management of “ASU (Prokontra)” documentary film production, which includes three stages: planning, production, and post-production. This documentary raises the issue of dog slaughtering in Yogyakarta. This research utilized a descriptive qualitative method. The data were gathered through in depth-interview with the director and cameraman of the film. Moreover, secondary data on this research were obtained from the animal community website and social media (Instagram) of Jogja’s Animal Friend and news from local and national mass media. The results revealed three findings: (i)  the director of the “ASU (Prokontra)” documentary film researched to obtain information on dog slaughtering in Yogyakarta; (ii) the director of the film employed an observative approach to record events spontaneously and naturally. The flow of the “ASU (Prokontra)” film production emphasizes the informal shooting process without excessive technical tools and does not require prior design; (iii) the director approached the community as the subject well. This approach was applied to build trust to take the right moment.

Abstract

Abstrak - Kegiatan ini bertujuan memberikan pengetahuan, pelatihan dan pendampingan kepada petani mengenai pengenalam tekonologi smart farming kepada kelompok Tani Gunung Butak, Dusun Ngrame Taman Tirto.  Kelompok Tani Gunung Butak Dusun Ngrame Taman Tiro memiliki beberapa permasalahan dalam kegiatan usaha tani padinya antara lain: masa tanam padi kadang mundur tidak sesuai dengan waktu yang direncanakan karena kondisi cuaca, penggunaan pupuk terkadang tidak berdasar kebutuhan atau standar yang ditetapkan, pengairan masih dilakukan dengan sistem irigasi buka tutup secara manual. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut di atas, pengenalan teknologi smart farming penting untuk dikenalkan kepada para petani. Metode yang diterapkan dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah penyuluhan dan workshop penggunaan alat kepada kelompok tani Gunung Butak, Dusun Ngrame, Taman Tirto-Bantul  Hasil yang diperoleh petani memiliki pengetahuan mengenai konsep smart farming 4.0 beserta arti pentingnya bagi petani dan mempunyai kemampuan untuk mengoperasikan teknologi berabasis internet untuk pertanian. Abstract

The sexual assault committed by a Sriwijaya University (Unsri) lecturer on a student resulted in coercion. The lecturer then admitted his guilt to the student. The victim published her experience on the Twitter account @unsrifess until it received mainstream media attention. This research deconstructs the framing of Kompas.com and Detik.com about sexual violence in Unsri. Detik.com presents the victim as someone who has truly faced tragedy and injustice. On the other hand, Kompas.com often depicts the victim as a 'problematic' figure and as if the media is 'punishing' him through their reporting.

Abstract

Since the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, announced the first positive case of COVID-19 in Indonesia, the government officially created the COVID-19 Handling Task Force on March 4, 2020. The government has appointed Achmad Yurianto as the Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force. As a spokesperson, Achmad Yurianto conveyed the development of the status issue through the media. However, information ambiguity still arises, creating discretion and negative images of the government’s communication style. This research aims to describe how Kompas.com, Republika.co.id, and Detik.com, pioneers of online journalism in Indonesia, framed the news delivered by Achmad Yurianto. In this constructivist paradigm research, the researchers analyzed 28 news samples using the framing model of Pan and Kosicki, then related them to the theory of Social Reality Construction from Berger and Luckmann.  At the syntactic structure, the researcher analyzes the facts on the news scheme in the form of headlines, leads, background information, quotes, sources, statements, closings. At the script level, the researcher analyzes the completeness of the news which includes elements of 5W+1H. Furthermore, at the thematic level, the elements of pre-paragraphs and news prepositions. Finally, the researcher looks at the emphasis on facts through grammar, idioms, pictures, graphics in the news. The results disclosed that Kompas.com, Republika.co.id, and Detik.com actively reports the development of information about COVID-19 in Indonesia, including framing the COVID-19 Task Force Handling Spokesperson, Achmad Yurianto. Kompas.com could direct public opinion to see Achmad Yurianto as an arrogant and authoritarian person. Conversely, Detik.com always framed him as a competent and proportionate person in conveying information.

Abstract

People with intellectual disabilities in Indonesia are vulnerable to discrimination due to lack of information on diseases, treatment, education, public access, and very limited job opportunities. Karangpatihan is a village called Kampung Tunagrahita (Mental Retardation Village) because 86 of its people are suffering from an intellectual disability. A community development program of self-help group (SHG) named Rumah Harapan Karangpatihan Bangkit aims to improve the social and economic capabilities of people with intellectual disabilities in Karangpatihan Village, Ponorogo, Indonesia. The researcher applied a qualitative method in the form of a case study. Data collection techniques used in this study were an in-depth interview with the Head of Karangpatihan Village, managers of Rumah Harapan Karangpatihan Bangkit, and people with intellectual disabilities involved within the program. Secondary data were obtained through the report of the SHG Rumah Harapan Karangpatihan Bangkit and mass media news clipping. This research shows that community development programs are carried out through mentoring mentally retarded citizens through counseling individually and in groups using sign language. Through effective mentoring, mentally disabled people in Karangpatihan Village have life skills, therefore they are able to be independent, have jobs, creative and have income that fullfill their daily needs.

Abstract

Indonesia kaya dengan berbagai warisan budaya, baik yang nyata maupun tidak berwujud. Salah satu situs peninggalan penting di propinsi Yogyakarta adalah situs warisan Kotagede. Kotagede adalah lingkungan bersejarah di Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Kotagede adalah ibukota pertama Kesultanan Mataram, didirikan pada abad ke-16. Situs warisan budaya di Kotagede antara lain sisa-sisa istana, makam kerajaan, masjid kerajaan, dan dinding dan parit pertahanan. Kotagede juga dikenal secara internasional oleh kerajinan peraknya dan membawa pengaruh positif bagi Kotagede. Warisan budaya memang telah diakui sebagai aspek yang semakin penting dalam ekonomi suatu negara dan masyarakat untuk itu mencakup semua tingkat dan aspek kehidupan sosial dan itu merupakan potensi ekonomi melalui kegiatan yang berhubungan dengan pariwisata berbasis budaya dengan mengambil studi kasus di Kotagede Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini  menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif serta melakukan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam (in-depth interview) dengan sejumlah tokoh masyarakat lokal dan masyarakat lokal di Kotagede Yogyakarta. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tindakan kolektif diperlukan dalam menyukseskan pariwisata berbasis budaya perlu keterlibatan pemangku kepentingan. Dukungan dari masyarakat setempat, pemimpin lokal, pemerintah daerah dan pihak lain seperti organisasi dan lembaga lain dengan visi dan misi yang sama.

Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) encouragesthe company to look further beyond the usual base to a widerregion, which is social at large and communities. This paper aimsto identify the role of Public Relations (PR) in CSR of AquaDanone Klaten in socially responsible business in water andenvironment programs which were implemented in Polan HarjoVillage, the local community that lives around the operating factoryof Aqua. This paper used qualitative approach, specifically usingcase study method. It employed in-depth interviews that wereconducted with the local community and working managers whodeal with CSR issues and strategy on day-to-day basis. Secondarydata was gathered in the form of information about CSR programsfrom regular reports downloaded from the company’s website,mass media news downloaded from the internet and otherresources. The research found that PR process is involved in CSRsteps from fact-finding until monitoring. The study also found thatAqua Danone Klaten carried out proactive dialogue withstakeholders. The planning until the assessment was conductedthrough discussions with community leaders, communities, andlocal governments to give ideas, criticisms, and testimonialstowards CSR programs. The research also identified that PublicRelations (PR) also adopt stakeholder engagement strategy. In thisstrategy, business enterprises prioritize dialogue and engagementwith stakeholders and develop interactive systems with variousstakeholders.

Abstract

The popularity of Instagram gave birth to influencers who use Instagram to build an image for their followers. This study aims to determine how much influence the personal branding built by influencer namely Tantri Namirah on her Instagram towards on the level of confidence of her followers. The sampling technique used convenience sampling, 100 samples were obtained using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis technique uses simple linear regression. The results of this study are that there is an influence between Tantri Namirah's personal branding on followers' self-confidence with a determination coefficient value of 0.310. The partial t value of this study is 6.927, so the result of this study showed that Tantri Namirah's personal branding on her Instagram had a significantly positive effect on increasing followers' self-confidence.
