Abstract

Child social-emotional development is improved by parental locus of control. Parents with a healthy locus of control can teach children about social-emotional development. Parents require training to improve their parenting skills. This study will create, administer, and evaluate the seamless mobile-assisted real training for parent (SMART-P) application on parental locus of control and children’s social and emotional development. The mixmethod study used an analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) model and experimental quantification research strategy. An explanatory study with a non-equivalent control group design and control-experiment classes is used. This study includes analysis, design, development, research instrument development, implementation, and assessment. This study sampled 150 parents of 4-year-olds and 6 experts, including 714 from Posyandu (Integrated Service Post) in five Malang City areas. The data was collected via questionnaires and observation checklists. This study analyzes data using descriptive percentages and SPSS. The findings showed that i) SMART-P is valid and acceptable as a training medium; ii) parental locus of parental control is significantly influenced before and after receiving SMART-P parenting training; iii) children’s social and emotional development is significantly impacted before and after parents receive care using the program; and iv) there is a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the influence on parental continuous. Abstract

Purpose – This study aimed to identify whether there is an increase in social-emotional and language aspects’ enhancement through the combination of imaginative teaching methods and multimedia learning that the teacher carried out.Design/methods/approach – This is a quantitative study that applies the pre-experimental design method. The model applied through this research was in the form of a pretest-posttest group which was carried out by comparing the emotional abilities of children before and after being given treatment in the form of a combination of imaginative processing methods and multimedia learning. The sampling technique used purposive sampling where the research subjects were in their early childhood, aged 5-6 years.Findings – Imaginative teaching approaches and multimedia-based learning impact the development and improvement of children's socio-emotional and language development. This can be seen from the comparison between the post-test scores that are more significant than the pre-test scores, namely, and the significance value on all dimensions is 0.000 <0.05.Research implications/limitations – In this study, the use of pretest and posttest methods in experimental design helps to clarify differences in the provision of imaginative processing methods and multimedia learning. The obstacles faced by the majority relate to the internet connection in communicating with teachers.Practical implications – The combination of imaginative learning methods and multimedia learning improves language social-emotional aspects effectively. The results of this study contribute to understanding for teachers and school institutions to better utilize information and communication technology in optimizing child development. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many aspects of life. In education, the conventional learning process has drastically changed to online. Schools with good resources and infrastructure, of course, can quickly adapt. However, schools with limited infrastructure, as well as low teacher skills, are a challenge. This research is to study the implementation of e-learning in online kindergarten classes from the existing conditions, challenges, and learning strategies that will be applied in PAUD schools in Jayapura City. The results of this study can be used as a reference in making decisions for implementing more effective online learning at the PAUD level. To gather data, a survey was conducted among 20 kindergarten and early childhood teaching staff in Jayapura City using a combination of methods, including contacting the schools, WhatsApp, and Google Forms. The findings reveal that the kindergarten-level teaching staff are predominantly women, aged between 24 and 54 years, with the majority falling within the age range of 35-53 years. The study also highlights the importance of e-learning in the current pandemic, as it enables teachers to document the educational process, remain organized, and provide more effective support to students amid distance restrictions and other challenges. The study results show that e-learning is essential to be prepared, especially during a pandemic. The willingness to engage in e-learning can help teachers document the educational process, be more organized, and be more helpful to students amid distance restrictions and other effects. However, teachers still need training to improve skills related to digital literacy. The training is more on multimedia to support learning and create exciting learning content with Multimedia.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze environmental-based education to increase environmental literacy and naturalistic intelligence. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with interviews, observation, and document analysis as data collection techniques. Informants were selected using purposive sampling techniques. The criteria for selecting informants are teachers who have a minimum of five years of teaching experience and the ability to make environment-based learning plans. The sampling results were 15 teachers from five kindergartens in the coastal area. The research results show that Environment-Based Education (EBE) can increase children's eco-literacy and naturalistic intelligence which focuses on four main dimensions, such as knowledge, understanding, skills, values ​​, and attitudes. Increasing children's positive attitudes and behavior towards the environment can increase awareness of coastal environmental preservation. Results also show increased acquisition of practical knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes towards the preservation and sustainability of the coastal environment. The findings of the above studies allow recommendations for understanding the long-term impact of such teaching on environmental literacy in children that requires long-term studies. A more organized learning model that other educational institutions may employ, and includes the creation of unique curricula, including outdoor education programs, and efforts in environmental initiatives. Abstract

Difficulty in recognizing geometric shapes in early childhood at YPPK Bintang Kecil Kindergarten, Abepura, Jayapura City, can hinder children's cognitive development and readiness for future mathematics learning. This study aims to improve children's ability to recognize, differentiate, and classify geometric shapes through a game-based learning approach. Involving 12 children aged 5–6 years, this study followed the Kemmis and McTaggart model for classroom action research, which was carried out for two cycles, each consisting of three actions. Data were collected through observation and testing, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The results showed a significant increase in children's shape recognition skills, with an average score increasing from 49.30% in the pre-cycle to 91.67% at the end of the second cycle. This increase was supported by the use of intriguing and concrete media, varied learning methods adjusted to children's learning styles, and the integration of games into learning activities. We conclude that the geometry game-based learning approach effectively enhances geometric shape recognition in early childhood. Further research is recommended to apply similar strategies in various educational settings and explore the use of digital educational games to further improve learning outcomes.

Abstract

The low mastery of English language comprehension in early childhood is a problem that has an impact on the development of children's language skills later. One of the contributing factors is the minimal use of interesting learning media that is in accordance with children's characteristics. This study aims to analyze the impact of the use of picture story books on the mastery of English vocabulary in early childhood. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 15 children aged 5-6 years. The sample was selected by purposive sampling based on the consideration that children aged 5-6 years are likely to be actively involved in English vocabulary learning activities. Data were collected through a comprehension mastery test in the form of word recognition and pronunciation based on pictures. The data analysis technique used a paired t-test. The results showed a significant increase in the average score from 2.07 in the pretest to 3.67 in the posttest, with a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05). The conclusion of this study is that picture story books have a positive effect on improving early childhood English comprehension. These findings imply the importance of using picture story books as a fun, interactive, and contextual learning medium in language learning in early childhood education. Future scholars are encouraged to build on these findings by further exploring culturally contextualized story content, integrating family involvement, and longitudinal studies examining the long-term impact of storybook-based learning.
