Abstract

Waktu aplikasi paclobutrazol 5 hari setelah inisiasi malai nyata memperpendek panjang ruas 2,3,4. Interaksi penggunaan varietas Inpari 10 dengan waktu aplikasi paclobutrazol 5 hari setelah inisiasi malai nyata memperpendek tinggi tanaman.Kata kunci : paclobutrazol, padi,  varietas, waktu aplikasi paclobutrazol.

Abstract

The growth and production of sugarcane are mainly affected by the quality of seedling, source of bud set material and the use of plant growth regulators as a factor influencing the quality of seedling that is produced so that the amount of production will be affected. The purpose of this research is to obtain the best source of bud set material and auxin concentration for the growth and production of sugarcane. This research was held in a PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II nursery in Tanjung Jati, Kecamatan Binjai Barat (50 above the sea) on July 2016 until April 2017. This research used a randomized block design with two factors, they are the source of bud set material (top stem and under stem material) and auxin concentrations (0 NAA+0 NAAm,100 ppm NAA+25 ppm NAAm, 200 ppm NAA+50 ppm NAAm, 300 ppm NAA+75 ppm NAAm and 400 ppm NAA+100 ppm NAAm). The result of this research showed that the source of bud set materal which is originally from the under stem material was significant increasing the growth of tillers and the stems as well as the source of bud set material that is originally from the top stem material that was really increasing the growth of stem diameter and the number of plant segments. The different auxin concentrations treatment was not significant increasing the growth and production of sugarcane. The treatment interaction of source of bud set material and auxin concentrations was not significant affecting to the growth and production of sugarcane.

Abstract

In order to get a good seed, the source of planting material usually uses 6 - 8 months. Storage of  sugarcane bud set aims to maintain the viability of the seeds as long as the bud set is not ready for planting. This research was conducted on the land of the Agriculture Faculty, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan in April - July 2017, using factorial randomized block design with two factors, i.e. age of planting material (6, 7, and 8 months) and storage periods (24, 48, 72 hours). The results showed that 7 months planting material gave the best plant lenght and seeds diameter. Using 7 months planting material with 72 hours storage periods gave best shoot growth percentage.

Abstract

The problem of generative propagation of soursop is its seeds take a long time to germinate which are caused by the hard seed coat. The solution to solve that problem is scarification and coconut water soaking to simply the process of imbibition and seed germination and also stimulate the growth of shoot. This objective of the research was to determine the effect of the scarification position and the soaking with various concentrations of coconut water on seed germination and growth of soursop seedling. This research was held at the Faculty of Agriculture field, the University of Sumatera Utara in March - July 2017. The research used a factorial randomized block design with two factors and three replication. The first factor is the scarification position (without scarification, stomach scarification, top scarification) and the second factor is coconut water soaking (0%; 25%; 50%; 75 %). The result of the research showed that the germination rate parameter, germination percentage, crop height, number of leaves, root volume and dry weight of crop significantly higher on without scarification treatment than with scarification treatment. The interaction between the scarification position and soaking with various coconut water concentrations was not significantly affecting the seed germination and growth of soursop seedling.

Abstract

One of causes coffee germination process takes a long period of time, because of the caffeine contained in coffee beans can inhibit the activity of amylase enzyme plays a role in the coffee germination process. Therefore, a study was conducted on the provision of Natural Growth Regulatory Substances (Natural PGR). This research was conducted at the Green House, Faculty of Agriculture, Univeritas Sumatera Utara, Medan from October 2019 to January 2020 using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two treatment factors : Factor 1 Natural PGR: A0 (water), A1 (bamboo shoot extract), A2 (shallot extract), and A3 (bamboo shoot extract + shallot extract). Factor 2 soaking duration : L1 (6 hours), L2 (12 hours), and L3 (18 hours). The results showed that the application of natural growth regulators (bamboo shoot extract or shallot extract) significantly increase the germination rate and seed vigor index. Soaking durationof 18 hours significantly increase presentation of germination but not different significantly from soaking for 12 hours, but there was no interaction between the two treatment factors. Abstract

Using fruit branch for pepper shrub propagation is one of alternatives for an efficient pepper multiplication which usually uses underlayer cuttings. This research is aimed at finding the growth response of two pepper (Piper nigrum L.) cuttings to the administration of IBA (Indole Butyric Acid) and NAA (Naphthalene Acetic Acid). This research was conducted at the greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan (± 32 m above sea level), from April to August 2017 using a factorial randomized block design with 2 factors, pepper branch cuttings (primary branch cuttings and secondary branch cuttings) and the administration of IBA and NAA (0+0 ppm, 2500+0 ppm, 0+2500 ppm, 1500+1000 ppm, and 1000+1500 ppm). The results show that the emerging shoot rate in the secondary branch cuttings was significantly faster than in the primary branch cuttings, but the volume of root in the primary branch cuttings is significantly larger than in the secondary branch cuttings. There was no significant difference in the administration of IBA and NAA on all observed variables. The highest interaction of shoot length was found in the primary branch cuttings with the administration of IBA 1500 ppm + NAA 1000 ppm and the highest percentage of root and root volume was found in the primary branch cuttings with the administration of IBA 2500 ppm + NAA 0 ppm.
