Abstract

One of the strategies to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in orphanages is to socialize Clean and Healthy Behavior (PHBS) and the application of Occupational Safety, Health and Health (K3) through education. The majority of orphanage residents, including caretakers, caregivers, and caretakers, are used to participating in activities together. The possibility of spreading the disease Covid-19 is present in this situation. To prevent transmission of the Corona virus, orphanage managers must be able to anticipate residents coming in and out of the orphanage, as well as outside parties such as food providers and other needs. Purpose: Increase the knowledge, understanding and behavior of managers and the use of OSH during the COVID-19 pandemic among children at the Yuliwis Resman Orphanage. This service activity is carried out by conveying PHBS information and the use of K3 in preventing Covid through audio-visual media, questions and answers, and demonstrations. Pre and post tests were carried out during the activity, which involved 31 children and adolescents as well as 8 supervisors and caregivers. After the activity, participants' knowledge and understanding of the implementation of PHBS and K3 increased. Participants increased the average point score from the pre-test to 67 and the average post-test score to 95 by successfully demonstrating how to wash their hands and answering the questions asked. Orphanage managers, caregivers and residents become more aware of PHBS and the efforts made to implement occupational safety and health by demonstrating one of the clean and healthy living behaviors, namely washing hands properly, how to maintain the cleanliness of the orphanage.

Abstract

A stroke is a neurological disease caused by the blockage or rupture of blood vessels in the brain. Functional dysfunction due to stroke causes stroke patients to be very susceptible to falls. This research aimed to identify the association between the severity of stroke with the level of patient dependence on the risk of falls. This research was a quantitative observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of this study was 66 hospitalized stroke patients who were recruited by quota sampling method. The National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Barthel Index are used to measure stroke severity and level of dependence. We assessed the risk of falls using the operational procedure from the hospital. Based on the Spearman rho test, it is found that there is a significant relationship between stroke severity and the level of risk of falls (p=0.000394). Similarly, a significant correlation was found between the level of patient dependence and the level of risk of falls (0.000016). Nurses need to set the nursing care plan for stroke patients who are at risk of falls to prevent further injuries and complications. Continuity of care and family support will help the patient's dependency, reduce the risk of falls, and promote quality of life.

Abstract

Dementia in elderly patients presents significant challenges for both individuals and their families, often leading to frequent hospital readmissions. Family caregivers play a critical role in patient management, and their knowledge and attitudes toward dementia care may influence patient outcomes. This study aimed to examine the relationship between family knowledge in caring for dementia patients and the frequency of hospital readmissions at RS Soeharto Heerdjan, Jakarta. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed, with a total sampling method involving family members of dementia patients visiting the Psychogeriatric Outpatient Clinic and the Inpatient Geriatric Ward. Data were collected using the Indonesian versions of the Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale (DKAS) and Dementia Attitudes Scale (DAS), both validated for reliability. The DKAS (Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale) instrument is a measurement tool for assessing general knowledge about dementia. The latest version of DKAS has 25 items that include statements about dementia that can be judged as true or false, some of which are false statements and are judged in reverse. The Dementia Attitudes Scale (DAS) instrument is a measurement tool developed to measure a person's attitude towards dementia, covering affective (feeling), behavioural, and cognitive components related to people with dementia. The watershed consists of 20 items that show two main factors, namely knowledge of dementia and social comfort in interacting with people with dementia. Results indicated that 52.5% of respondents had low knowledge and 50.8% held negative attitudes toward dementia care. High patient readmission frequency (>1 time per year) was reported in 83.6% of cases. Statistical analysis using Pearson Chi-Square (p = 0.865), Fisher Exact (p = 1.000), and odds ratio (OR = 0.889) showed no significant association between family knowledge and readmission frequency, although a slight trend suggested that higher knowledge may reduce readmissions. Despite the lack of statistical significance, these findings highlight the importance of educating and supporting family caregivers to improve patient care and quality of life, potentially minimizing hospital readmissions. Interventions targeting caregiver knowledge and attitudes are recommended to enhance dementia management and reduce healthcare burden.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a condition characterized by hemoglobin (Hb) levels below normal physiological values based on age and sex. Among pregnant women, anemia poses serious health risks to both the mother and the fetus, including miscarriage, preterm birth, infection, hemorrhage, intrauterine fetal death, low birth weight, congenital anomalies, perinatal mortality, and reduced infant intelligence. In Bekasi City, the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women increased from 14.3% in 2021 to 20% in 2022, largely due to poor adherence to iron (Fe) tablet supplementation, often caused by side effects such as nausea and unpleasant taste. Purpose: To compare the effectiveness of processed Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) and Fe tablets in improving hemoglobin levels among pregnant women with mild anemia. Method: A quantitative experimental design with a two-group pretest–posttest approach was used. The study was conducted at Mrs. Ida Roningsih’s Independent Midwife Practice from August 1 to September 31, 2024, involving all pregnant women in the working area, totaling 44 participants. Data were collected through hemoglobin measurements before and after intervention and questionnaire responses. Statistical analyses included univariate and bivariate analysis, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and T-test or Wilcoxon test as appropriate. Results: The mean increase in hemoglobin levels among pregnant women in the Moringa leaf group was 1.35 g/dL (6.15%), compared to only 0.09 g/dL (0.4%) in the Fe tablet group. A significant difference was observed between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.000). The relative risk (RR) of 2.375 indicates that pregnant women receiving Moringa leaf capsules were 2.375 times more likely to experience an increase in Hb levels compared to those taking Fe tablets. Conclusion: Processed Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) were proven to be more effective than Fe tablets in increasing hemoglobin levels among pregnant women with mild anemia, showing a more than twofold greater improvement in Hb levels.
