Abstract

The hydrogen adsorption, kinetic and thermodynamic of adsorption onto the zeolite templated carbon (ZTC) were examined at the temperature range of 30-50 °C and ambient pressure. The ZTC was prepared from zeolite-Y template and sucrose carbon precursor by impregnation method and showed its specific surface area of 932 m2/g as well as 0.97 cm3/g for total pore volume. Analysis of physical and chemical characteristics for materials were performed using XRD, SEM, TEM and N2 isotherm. The results indicated that the ZTC has some ordered network structure of carbon and also exhibits the formation of carbon layer outside the zeolite micropore. We observed the ZTC for hydrogen adsorption both gravimetric and volumetric method up to 1.72 and 1.16 wt.% at the lowest temperature, respectively. The kinetic process at all studied temperature was best approximated by pseudo second order kinetic model. The aspects of thermodynamic such as heat of adsorption and the entropy change were -14.41 kJ/mol and -40.93 J/K mol, respectively. Both values was negative, indicating an exothermic reaction and low disorder at the hydrogen and ZTC interface, when the adsorption process took place. While, the enthalpy change value exhibits characteristic of physical process. The Gibbs energy change calculated at 30, 40 and 50 °C were -1.99, -1.59 and -1.19 kJ/mol, respectively, indicating a spontaneous adsorption process.

Abstract

Groundwater highly contaminated with organic substances and heavy metal ions in the Kariangau Industrial Area, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan is indicated by the comparatively high COD. Therefore, the technology for treating wastewater to remove various toxins before releasing it into the environment needs to be advanced. Here, we present a green synthetic method of a composite adsorbent (SF/SS) using soursop seeds and silkworm cocoons. SEM, FTIR, and BET were used to analyze the physicochemical characteristics of the adsorbent. Mechanistic investigation of the SF/SS adsorbent performance for the removal of Cu2+ metal ions and crystal violet (CV) was conducted, while taking into account variables affecting adsorption properties. The Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm adsorption models were used to fit the adsorption equilibrium, while pseudo-first and second-order models were used to assess the adsorption kinetics. The mesoporous SF/SS adsorbent exhibited the highest adsorption capacities of 78.6 and 69.2 mg‧g-1, respectively. The pseudo-first model showed the best fit for CV removal with a kinetic rate of 0.0634 min-1, while the Freundlich model exhibited the best fitting for both of CV and Cu2+ removal. The results showed that SF/SS can be applied as an efficient adsorbent for both of heavy metal and organic dye removal.

Abstract

Pada program pengabdian masyarakat berbasis produk yang dilakukan Tim Abdimas Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) dihasilkan alat produksi air minum menggunakan perpaduan teknologi membran Reverse-Osmosis (RO), adsorben dan sinar UV yang sesuai dengan baku mutu air dari air sumur di Panti Asuhan Yatim Aisyiyah (PAY Aisyiyah). Kegiatan ini meliputi desain penyaring air yang menghasilkan standar air minum, rancangan bisnis air minum, kemasan produk air minum dan perawatan alat penyaring air. Uji mutu air minum yang dihasilkan dari sumber air sumur di PAY Aisyiyah dilakukan di labaratorium sesuai dengan standar baku mutu air. Berdasarkan hasil analisa dari air sesudah diolah telah memenuhi beberapa parameter sesuai Permenkes No. 492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010. Selain itu, air minum yang dihasilkan masih terdapat kandungan mineral yang dibutuhkan tubuh meliputi Fe, Mn, Zn, Cl, dan F. Sosialisasi telah dilakukan untuk memberikan pengetahuan mengenai pengolahan air minum dan perawatan alat yang benar, serta akan dilakukan pengawasan dan evaluasi secara berkala agar alat penjernih air dapat digunakan secara berkelanjutan guna memenuhi kebutuhan air bersih dan air minum lingkungan PAY Aisyiyah dan prospek kedepan untuk bisnis air minum di PAY Aisyiyah.

Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan salah satu sektor yang berperan besar dalam peningkatan Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM) dan pembanguanan susatu bangsa. Permasalahan yang dihadapi Indonesia dalam hal pendidikan yaitu masih rendahnya mutu pendidikan di setiap jenjang serta tidak meratanya sumber daya pendidikan sehingga perkembangan mutu pendidikannya tidak merata. Gebang Putih merupakan salah satu kelurahan di wilayah Kecamatan Sukolilo, Kota Surabaya, Provinsi Jawa Timur. Secara letak, Kelurahan Gebang Putih terbilang cukup strategis, hal tersebut dikarenakan lokasinya yang dekat dengan salah satu perumahan elite di Surabaya. Selain itu, Kelurahan Gebang Putih juga berada di kawasan Perguruan Tinggi Negeri dan Swasta. Namun, berdasarkan Data Pokok Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah Direktorat Jendral Pendidikan Dasar dan Mengah Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan, di wilayah Kelurahan Gebang Putih ternyata masih terdapat sekolah yang akreditasinya belum maksimal dan masih belum menerapkan sistem manajemen mutu, salah satunya adalah SD Mabadiul Ulum, Gebang Putih Surabaya. SD yang berdiri sejak tanggal 1 Mei 1954 tersebut hingga saat ini masih terakreditasi B. Tim Pengabdi ITS berupaya untuk turut berpartisipasi dalam mengembangkan pendidikan di wilayah Kelurahan Gebang Putih dengan meningkatkan kesadaran pengelola sekolah terhadap pentingnya sistem manajemen mutu di sekolah serta memberikan pelatihan dan pendampingan terkait penerapan ISO 9001 guna meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan di wilayah kelurahan Gebang Putih, Sukolilo, Surabaya. Kegaiatan pengabdian ini dilekukan dalam empat tahapan utama yaitu pendekatan awal, pelatihan dan workshop implementasi ISO 9001, pembimbingan dan pendampingsan serta tahap yang terakhir adalah evaluasi. Melalui kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini diharapkan dapat membantu peningkatan mutu sekolah melalui implementasi ISO 9001.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan kapasitas adsorpsi metilen biru dan kongo merah pada zeolit-X yang disintesis dari abu dasar. Adsorben zeolite-X disintesis dari abu dasar dengan metode peleburan menggunakan NaOH pada suhu 750oC dalam atmosfer udara. Hasil karakterisasi zeolit-X dari abu dasar dibandingkan dengan zeolit-X yang disintesis dari bahan murni. Kristalinitas dan luas permukaan zeolit-X dari abu dasar masih lebih rendah dibandingkan zeolit-X yang disintesis dari bahan murni. Luas permukaan zeolit-X dari abu dasar adalah 250,850 m2/g, sedangkan zeolit-X dari bahan murni sebesar 472,471 m2/g. Hasil uji kapasitas adsorpsi zeolit-X dari abu dasar untuk metilen biru dan kongo merah adalah 131,6973 mg/g dan 38,12684 mg/g, berturut-turut. Proses adsorpsi mengikuti persamaan isothermal Langmuir dengan mengikuti model kinetika adsorpsi orde kedua semu. Studi termodinamika mengindikasikan bahwa proses adsorpsi terjadi secara eksoterm dan bersifat spontan pada masing-masing temperatur

Abstract

Harvesting microalgae is an important process to be carried out in the production of biodiesel from microalgae. The method of harvesting by filtration technique provides many advantages over other methods. Polymer is a membrane material that is often used for harvesting microalgae. However, polymer membranes have limited hydrophobic properties, thus, modification was needed to improve the hydrophilic properties and performance of polymer membranes. The polyvylene fluoride (PVDF) flat-sheet membrane has advantages over other membrane materials which are rated with a flux rate of 67.3 L / m2h and a rejection value of 100%. Then, the development with hollow fiber modulation on the PVDF membrane was considered very suitable, which was reported to have succeeded in increasing the membrane flux in the harvest of Scenedemus Acuminatus reaching up to 5136 L / m2h. The addition of PVDF with the inorganic additive LiCl was successful in increasing its hydrophilicity as the water permeation size increased up to 542 L / m2h. In addition, the use of triethyl phosphate (TEP) as a solvent is more environmentally friendly and compatible with PVDF membranes. As a result, it can increase membrane porosity by up to 92.7%. Apart from improving the membrane material, this review also reports the design and economic analysis to produce an effective and efficient of polymeric membranes for microalgae harvesting.

Abstract

The adsorption of methylene blue and congo red dye using zeolite-A synthesized from coal bottom ash and it comparison from synthetic materials has been studied with initial concentration variations between 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200 and 220 mg/L, contact time 10-100 min and temperature between 30, 40, 50 ºC with pH 6-7. Adsorption equilibrium time was achieved at contact time of 70-80 minutes for methylene blu dye and 40-50 minutes for congo red dye. Increased adsorption capacity significantly lead to methylene blue with maximum adsorption capacity achieved up to 67.57 mg/g and 70.73 mg/g, adsorption capacity on congo red adsorbate achieved 39.43 mg/g and 41.50 mg/g each for zeolite A from coal bottom ash and it comparison. The analysis of the kinetics adsorption equation shows that the adsorption process of methylene blue and congo red dye follows second-order pseudo kinetics model, but adsorption of methylene blue follows Freundlich isothermal equation, while adsorption of congo red follows Langmuir isothermal equation. The study of adsorption thermodynamics results that the capacity adsorption increased with the increasing of temperature. Adsorption process occurs endothermally and spontaneously at methylene blue and congo red dye.

Abstract

Kampung Sanan merupakan kampung yang mengelola perternakan sapi, sehingga menghasilkan banuak kotoran Sapi. Untuk memanfaatkan kotoran sapi di Kampung Sanan, kami mengajak warga Kampung Sanan mengembangkan pemanfaatan kotoran sapi menjadi biobriket. Biobriket yang dihasilkan dari kampung Sanan ini telah memenuhi standar SNI dan memiliki kualitas yang layak dengan pengujian sifat fisik dan termal. Selain itu, Program ini berpotensi menjadi aplikasi yang berkelanjutan dalam mendukung energi terbarukan berbasis biomassa, sekaligus memberikan dampak positif bagi pengelolaan limbah dan pemenuhan kebutuhan energi lokal.
