Abstract

Actinomycetes endophytes are bacteria that live in plant tissues and are known as secondary metabolites that have activity as an antibacterial. This study was conducted to isolate Actinomycetes endophytes from vetiver plant tissue (Vetiveria zizanioides) and test for the activity of antibacterial compounds againstStaphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli by using diffusion method. Actinomycetes endophytes successfully isolated were isolates of RTP-1, RTP-2 and RTP-3. The results of antibacterial compound activity test showed that the three Actinomycetes endophytic isolates were able to inhibit the growth of S. aureus and E. coli bacteria. The best inhibitory ability against E. coli bacteria with a drag zone diameter of 20 mm while the largest inhibitory zone diameter against S. aureus bacteria was 9 mm.

Abstract

Kebutuhan masyarakat terhadap bawang merah mengalami peningkatan seiring dengan peningkatan jumlah penduduk Agar kebutuhan dapat terpenuhi, harus diimbangi dengan jumlah produksi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kadar air dan suhu penyimpanan yang optimal serta interaksi keduanya terhadap viabilitas dan vigor umbi bibit bawang merah (Allium cepa L.). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2015 sampai Februari 2016. Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimen yang disusun berdasarkan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari dua faktor. Faktor I yaitu kadar air yang hilang terdiri dari tiga taraf: 80%, 85%, dan 90%. Faktor II yaitu suhu penyimpanan terdiri dari tiga taraf: suhu ruang (27 0C-30 0C), suhu dingin (5 0C-10 0C) dan suhu beku (-5 0C sampai 0 0C), masing-masing dengan empat kali ulangan. Parameter yang diamati adalah persentase kerusakan, pertumbuhan tunas, vigor dan viabilitas umbi bibit bawang merah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar air yang hilang 85% memberikan hasil yang optimal terhadap parameter vigor dan viabilitas umbi bibit bawang merah, suhu dingin (5 0C-10 0C) dan suhu beku (-5 0C sampai 0 0C) memberikan hasil yang optimal terhadap parameter vigor dan viabilitas umbi bawang merah. Interaksi antara kadar air dan suhu penyimpanan tidak berbeda nyata terhadap vigor dan viabilitas umbi bibit bawang merah.

Abstract

Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan April sampai Mei 2017 di Kawasan Stadion Utama Riau, Pekanbaru. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis Odonata dan sebaran Odonata di Stadion Utama Riau. Penangkapan Odonata dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode jelajah (field by field method). Hasil penelitian ditemukan 15 Spesies yaitu Ictinogomphus decoratus, Pantala flavescens, Rhyothemis phyllis, Orthetrum sabina, Crocothemis servilia, Neurothemis fluctuans, Brachythemis contaminata, Diplacodes triviallis, Tholymis tillarga, Orthetrum testaceum, Trithemis aurora, Trithemis sp., Lestes concinnus, Ceriagrion auranticum dan Ceriagrion aeruginesum, semua spesies aktif pada pagi dan sore hari. Sebaran Odonata ditemukan lebih banyak pada Stasiun I dibandingkan Stasiun II dan Stasiun III.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat yang telah dilakukan ini bermula dari adanya keinginan untuk memberikan keterampilan yang dapat meningkatkan kompetensi guru-guru biologi. Hasil wawancara tim pelaksana pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Biologi UMRI dengan guru biologi SMAN 14 Pekanbaru, menunjukkan bahwa guru-guru Biologi SMAN 14 Pekanbaru memiliki keterbatasan ilmu dalam materi golongan darah dan tidak memiliki keterampilan dalam melakukan pemeriksaan golongan darah. Untuk itu, dengan adanya pelatihan pemeriksaan golongan darah ini, guru-guru biologi SMAN 14 Pekanbaru dapat memberikan pelajaran tentang materi golongan darah serta praktik pemeriksaan golongan darah kepada siswa. Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 1 Februari 2018. Pada saat praktik pemeriksaan golongan darah, guru-guru biologi sangat antusias mengikuti pelatihan dan mereka berharap adanya pelatihan lain yang dapat meningkatkan kompetensi para guru.

Abstract

The waters of Lubuk Gaung Village, Sungai Sembilan District are areas that are widely used as transportation routes. Activities in these waters will cause environmental pollution, which affects the life of phytoplankton. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the primary productivity of phytoplankton with oceanographic parameters in the waters of Lubuk Gaung Village, Sungai Sembilan District, Dumai. The method used is the survey method to determine the research station and the in situ method for measurement and sampling of oceanographic parameters. The results obtained are Oceanographic parameters from the three research stations, namely Brightness = 30 – 49 cm, Turbidity = 47.4 – 58.4 FTU, TSS = 124 – 209 mg/L, and BOD = 0.408 – 1.224 mg/L. The average value of primary productivity of the waters ranged from 48.07 to 79.69 mgC/m3/day. The value of primary productivity at station II is categorized into Oligotrophic, namely low waters. Stations I and III are categorized into mesotrophic waters, namely medium waters. The relationship between brightness, turbidity, and TSS with primary productivity has a very strong and positive (unidirectional) correlation value. The relationship between BOD and primary productivity has a very strong and negative (opposite) correlation.

Abstract

Belimbing wuluh is a tropical tree that grows as a wild tree or planted because it contains many benefits. Belimbing wuluh is useful as traditional medicine and has secondary metabolite compounds such as tannins, flavonoids and saponins that function as insecticides. This study aims to determine the potential of Belimbng wuluh leaf extract as a natural insecticide against Fall armyworm (S. frugiperda) and to determine the concentration that can kill 50% of Fall armyworms (LC50). The method used for this research is a completely randomized design (CRD), Belimbing wuluh leaf extract made by maceration method. The concentration of the extract used was 0%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. The test larvae used were 40 tails. The parameters observed were mortality and speed of death. The result of this study showed that the number of Fall armyworm deaths was 66 from the total number of 120 larvae. This proves that Belimbing wuluh leaf extract has the potential as a natural insecticide against Fall armyworm (S. frugiperda). Based on probit analysis the effective concentration to kill 50% of Fall armyworm larvae was 59,9%. Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan larva T. molitor pada tingkatan instar 4, 6 dan 8 dalam mendegradasi limbah masker medis surgical yang dicampur ampas tahu dan dedak padi serta melihat pertambahan bobot badan larva. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimen menggunakan Metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap Faktorial (RALF) dengan 3 perlakuan dan 3 kali penggulangan masing-masing instar. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Larva T. molitor pada instar 6 memiliki laju degradasi tertinggi yaitu 2,39 gr/hari dibandingkan instar 4 dan instar 8 dengan pakan masker yang dicampur dengan ampas tahu (P1). Sedangkan untuk laju degradasi terendah yaitu pada instar 4 yaitu sebesar 0,01 gr/hari, dengan pakan masker tanpa dicampur limbah organik. Pemberian pakan kombinasi pada larva menyebabkan perubahan yang signifikan terhadap bobot badan larva. Hubungan pakan yang terdegradasi dengan pertambahan bobot badan pada instar 4 dikategorikan sedang yaitu memiliki nilai korelasi (r) = 0,579 gr/hari dan instar 6 dikategorikan sedang juga karena memiliki nilai korelasi (r) = 0,509 gr/hari,sedangkan instar 8 memiliki korelasi (r) = 0,221 gr/hari dikatakan lemah dan tidak berpengaruh terhadap pertambahan bobot badan.

Abstract

This study is to determine the relationship between primary productivity and nutrients in the coastal waters of Pelintung Village, Medang Kampai District, Dumai. The research was conducted in March 2022; the method used in this research is survey method and purposive sampling. The research location is divided into 3 station points namely tourist area, secondary vegetation forest area, and near industrial area. The results of the measurement of the highest primary productivity value are found at Station III which is 78.91 mgC/m2/hour which indicates mesotrophic water conditions, while the lowest primary productivity value is at Station II, which is 46.88 mgC/m2/hour which indicates oligotrophic water conditions. The results of the analysis of the concentration of nitrate and phosphate between stations also varied, namely for the nitrate value of 0.04 – 0.05 mg/L which was included in the less fertile category, while the phosphate concentration was 0.042 – 0.048 mg/L which was included in the fertile category in the waters. Furthermore, the relationship between nitrate concentration and primary productivity is a correlation coefficient value (r) = -0.070 which means that there is a weak relationship between nitrate concentration and primary productivity. Meanwhile, the relationship between phosphate concentration and primary productivity is the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.965, which means that there is a very strong relationship between phosphate concentration and primary productivity. So it can be concluded that nitrate and phosphate nutrients can affect the primary productivity of water.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui posisi, warna, bentuk dan ukuran telur calon ratu H. itama. Pengamatan dilakukan pada 4 kotak yang dipilih secara purposive sampling dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa posisi telur calon ratu H.itama berada pada bagian tengah-tengah sarang yang merupakan area paling terlindungi dan biasanya memiliki kondisi yang stabil serta memudahkan lebah pekerja untuk memberikan perawatan yang lebih baik seperti pemberian makanan. Telur calon H.itama berbentuk oval dan berwarna krem untuk lapisan bagian atas, sedangkan pada lapisan bagian bawah berwarna coklat muda. Telur calon ratu H.itama memiliki ukuran yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan telur calon pekerja atau pejantan. Ukuran rata-rata panjang telur calon ratu yang diamati yaitu 0,8 cm dan memiliki lebar rata-rata berkisar antara 0,5-0,6 cm. Kata kunci: Heterotrigona itama, telur calon ratu, karakteristik Characteristics of eggs of prospective queen Heterotrigona itama in cultivated colonies in the Imbo Putui customary forest, Kampar Abstract: This study aims to determine the position, color, shape and size of the eggs of the prospective queen H. itama. Observations were made in 4 boxes selected by purposive sampling using quantitative descriptive methods. The results of the study showed that the position of the eggs of the prospective queen H. itama is in the middle of the nest which is the most protected area and usually has stable conditions and makes it easier for worker bees to provide better care such as feeding. The eggs of the prospective H. itama are oval and cream-colored for the top layer while the bottom layer is light brown. The eggs of the prospective queen H. itama are larger than the eggs of the prospective workers or males. The average length of the eggs of the prospective queen observed was 0.8 cm and had an average width ranging from 0.5 cm - 0.6 cm.
