Abstract

Hypertension and sleep disorders significantly impact older adults' quality of life and daily functioning. Sleep quality is influenced by physical health, environmental, and occupational factors. The Person–Environment–Occupation (PEO) model provides a comprehensive framework for exploring these interactions. This study examined the relationship between blood pressure and sleep quality in older adults and illustrated the application of the PEO approach in managing sleep disturbances among hypertensive elderly individuals. Using a quantitative analytic observational design with cross-sectional methods, research was conducted in Boyolali involving 30 older adults selected through purposive sampling. Data collection included demographic questionnaires, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and blood pressure measurements using OMRON HEM-7121 digital sphygmomanometer. Data analysis utilized Pearson correlation and descriptive statistics guided by the PEO framework. Findings revealed 70% of participants had hypertension, and 63.3% experienced poor sleep quality. Significant positive correlations were observed between systolic blood pressure and PSQI scores (r=0.72; p=0.001) and between diastolic blood pressure and PSQI scores (r=0.65; p=0.002). Participants with hypertension demonstrated poorer sleep quality than those without hypertension. According to the PEO model, sleep disturbances were influenced by person-related factors (hypertension, stress, fatigue), environmental factors (lighting, noise, family support), and occupational factors (daily routines, sleep hygiene, activity balance). In conclusion, significant associations exist between blood pressure and sleep quality in older adults. The PEO approach serves as a holistic occupational therapy framework, enhancing sleep quality and overall well-being through interventions including sleep hygiene education, stress management, environmental adjustments, and activity regulation.

Abstract

Background: Post-Tuberculosis Lung Disease (PTLD) is a common long-term consequence of pulmonary tuberculosis that may persist despite successful anti-tuberculosis treatment, resulting in reduced functional capacity. Post-tuberculosis rehabilitation has been recommended to improve physical function; however, evidence regarding its effectiveness remains inconsistent. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of post-tuberculosis rehabilitation on functional capacity through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science up to 2025. Randomized controlled trials and prospective controlled intervention studies reporting Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) outcomes in patients with PTLD were included. Data were analyzed using Review Manager (RevMan) 5.4 with a random-effects model, and pooled effects were expressed as Mean Difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: Six studies involving 492 participants met the inclusion criteria. Post-tuberculosis rehabilitation significantly improved functional capacity compared with standard care (MD = 109.32 m; 95% CI = 44.13–174.50; p = 0.001). Despite substantial heterogeneity (I² = 98%), sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of the findings. Conclusion: Post tuberculosis rehabilitation effectively improves functional capacity in patients with PTLD and should be considered an integral component of comprehensive post-tuberculosis care. Abstract

Background: Hypertension in the elderly is a silent killer condition that occurs due to the aging process. This needs attention because many elderly people are not aware of the signs or symptoms that appear. This community service activity aims to improve cadres' knowledge, abilities, and skills in handling hypertension in the elderly through counselling and training activities. It will also increase the knowledge and understanding of the elderly regarding hypertension. The benefits of this activity are expected to be used as promotive and preventive activities in improving community empowerment programs in sustainable health. Methods: This community service uses counselling and training activities. Counselling and training were carried out at the Elderly Posyandu, Ngargorejo Village, Boyolali, Central Java, using the total sampling technique. The results of the understanding and skills of cadres and the elderly were evaluated using questionnaires before and after counselling. Results: There were changes in the knowledge and skills of cadres and the elderly in monitoring the occurrence of hypertension. The average level of expertise of cadres and the elderly before counselling was 8.73, and after counselling, 9.77. There was an increase in the average value of 1.04. The results of the paired sample t-test showed a ρ value of 0.001. Conclusion: The provision of training and counselling on the level of knowledge of cadres and the elderly about hypertension is an influence. It is hoped that posyandu cadres and the elderly can work together to prevent and control hypertension in the community.

Abstract

Background: The ageing population in Indonesia necessitates proactive interventions to maintain the quality of life among older adults, particularly in terms of social interaction, which often declines due to isolation, stigma, and mobility limitations. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance the understanding and participation of older adults in social interaction through a community-based educational program entitled “I am an Active and Happy Older Adult”.  Methods: The intervention was conducted in Bolon Village on Saturday, September 13, 2025. The activity was carried out in three stages, namely (1) preparation, which included coordination with village officials, needs analysis, and the preparation of materials and leaflets; (2) implementation in the form of face-to-face health counseling using leaflets and interactive discussions; and (3) evaluation using the pre-post counseling method. The evaluation was conducted by administering a structured questionnaire containing ten closed-ended questions before and after counseling to 41 respondents (35 elderly people, six elderly health cadres, and other participants) to assess changes in their level of knowledge. Results: The majority of participants were aged 60–74 years (73.2%), female (78%), and had low educational backgrounds (71.1% ≤ junior high school). There was a significant increase in the mean understanding score from 4.95 (pre-test) to 9.56 (post-test), accompanied by a decrease in standard deviation from 0.865 to 0.502, indicating a more uniform level of understanding among participants following the intervention. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that culturally responsive and participatory health education is effective in increasing awareness among older adults regarding the importance of social interaction. Follow-up evaluation, capacity strengthening of community health cadres, and expansion of interventions targeting older and male participants are recommended to realize the principles of active ageing inclusively and sustainably.

Abstract

Background: Preschool is an important period in child development because of the acceleration in motor, language, and social-emotional skills. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have difficulties in social, communication, and repetitive behavior aspects that impact developmental delays. This study aims to analyze the developmental aspects of preschool-aged children with ASD. Methods: This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The sample consisted of four preschool-aged children with ASD and their four mothers, who were selected using purposive sampling based on the Denver II criteria. Data collection was conducted through interviews and observations of child development during one assessment period. Data analysis was performed thematically with triangulation of sources and techniques and verification through member checks to ensure data validity. Results: The thematic analysis yielded three main themes, namely: (1) motor aspects, which include delays in locomotor skills, manipulative movements, eye-hand coordination, and early writing skills; (2) language aspects showing barriers in speech initiation and language expression abilities; and (3) socio-emotional aspects including delays in environmental exploration, independence, and social interaction abilities. Conclusion: Preschool-aged children with ASD have developmental delays in motor, language, and social-emotional aspects with varying degrees of severity according to age. Structured occupational therapy and early intervention based on multisensory stimulation are recommended to support the optimal developmental achievement of children with ASD.
