Abstract

Inclusive and equitable education for children with special needs (ABK) in Indonesia still faces various significant challenges. This writing analyzes the application of continuity editing techniques in the documentary video "Batas Tanpa Batas" which tells the story of Djulaiha Sukmana's struggle in establishing Yayasan Biruku, an institution that provides quality education for ABK who are often marginalized from the conventional education system. The role of the editor in this documentary is crucial, not only as a visual processor but also as an influential agent in shaping public perception and sparking discussions about the importance of inclusive education. The writer as an editor uses continuity editing techniques such as L-Cut, Cutaway, and Color Grading to create a cohesive and emotional narrative. The editing process also includes offline and online stages, which aim to optimize visuals and audio to strengthen the message conveyed. This documentary shows that the editor has a strategic role in managing the story flow and ensuring effective transitions between scenes, so that the message about the importance of inclusive education can be well conveyed to the audience. The purpose of this writing is to enhance understanding of the important role of editors in supporting advocacy for inclusive education for ABK through documentary media. Additionally, this effort aims to identify and evaluate effective methods in content presentation that can influence and change society's views on inclusive education.

Abstract

Documentary films have evolved significantly and have a character based on their complex and profound narratives that present facts based on data. This research aims to explore the impact of the integration of documentary style between expository and observational on the role of scriptwriters in documentary production. This is based on the increasing production of documentary films in Indonesia across various channels on platforms like YouTube, one of which is Channel Watchdoc. Using a descriptive approach, data were collected through theories, perspectives, and the personal experiences of the researcher as a scriptwriter in documentary production. The results indicate that scriptwriters play a crucial role in creating the story and maintaining the narrative flow to appear natural and spontaneous. Additionally, scriptwriters ensure the consistency of the pre-planned focus, even with significant improvisations based on field occurrences. The conclusion of this research emphasizes that, despite the various challenges posed by combining expository and observational storytelling techniques, the presence of skilled scriptwriters is essential for maintaining the naturalness and consistency of a documentary film. This approach offers a new perspective for viewers, allowing them to directly perceive situations and conditions with the hope of providing benefits and inspiring action and change.

Abstract

The development of technology continues to grow rapidly, with the presence of social media being one of the evidences of this technological advancement. The diversity of social media today also influences the types of content that can be presented on these platforms, one of which is video. In the video production process, a scriptwriter plays a crucial role. There are various types of videos, one of which is a feature video that covers a factual or real event. Producing a factual feature video can be achieved by applying reporting techniques to the scriptwriting process. Therefore, the role of the scriptwriter is very important, and the application of these reporting techniques is expected to assist in gathering the necessary facts and data to ensure that the resulting feature video is factual and truly reflects events occurring in society. The method used is a descriptive method, explaining based on the author's experience as a scriptwriter in creating feature videos. It is hoped that this writing can provide new insights into how to apply reporting techniques to feature video scriptwriting.

Abstract

This article discussed the application of framing techniques during the video feature editing process, focusing on how framing influenced the presentation of the story to the audience. This study was motivated by the transformation of journalism in the digital era, where video features became one of the popular reporting formats. Video features allowed for an in-depth exploration of topics and provided broader context. Framing techniques were used to select and highlight certain aspects within the video, shaping audience perception and understanding. The video feature editing process involved several stages, including clip selection, emphasis on key aspects, exclusion of irrelevant elements, and the elaboration of additional information. This study employed a descriptive analytical method with a case study on the video feature “Kuliner Legendaris: Sukses Melintasi Dekade”. The analysis results showed that effective framing techniques could guide public opinion, build empathy, and encourage action from the audience. Video editors played a key role in applying framing techniques to ensure the story conveyed matched the narrative's purpose.
