Abstract

Narasi memegang peranan penting dalam kehidupan manusia. Ia mempengaruhi pembentukan pengetahuan dan identitas manusia. Abstract

This study aims at revealing English representation on the business signboards in some business centers in Padang. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that helps researchers to have a thorough analysis of the data. Linguistic landscape and visual semiotics theories proposed by Landry and Bourhis, Kress and van Leeuwen, and Scollon and Scollon are applied to discuss the results. The visual semiotics theory is specified for only composition, especially given and new composition. The study finds that there are 687 data with 957 compositions of given-new, ideal-real, and center-margin information. Among them are 54 (6%) given compositions and 221 (23%) new compositions. It indicates that the business owners in Padang mostly use English as a subordinate language on the signboard. The business owners use English on the signboards to give new information to promote their stores. Hopefully, this research can give more contributions to the linguistic landscape in Padang. It also can broaden the readers’ horizons about the language in public spaces, especially the language used in business areas.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap penggambaran bahasa Inggris pada papan nama bisnis di beberapa pusat bisnis di Padang. Abstract

This research is based on the assumption that the government and the private sector are in control of the tourism industry which results in the position of the community being neglected and alienated. Therefore there is a need for efforts to empower local communities in managing and developing tourism potential in their area. The concept of Community based tourism is an alternative solution to restore the role and participation of the community in managing and developing this tourism sector. Based on this problem, the researcher tries to formulate research questions, namely; how is the management and development of community-based ecotourism destinations in West Sumatra? The objectives of this research include: 1) To describe and analyze how community-based ecotourism is managed and developed. 2) To describe the impact of community-based ecotourism management and development on the social, economic, and surrounding environment. The research method uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through field studies by collecting primary and secondary data. The data obtained will be reduced, presented and conclusions drawn which are the relationship between the existing theory and qualitative analysis which can provide an overview of the research problem. The results of the study explain that the management of ecotourism destinations in the research location is based on the community through tourism awareness groups formed by the community itself. The level of community participation is quite high both in planning, implementing, and evaluating management and development activities. As for the impact felt by the surrounding community, it is quite positive socially, economically and environmentally. In the future, there is a need to increase the capacity of tourism awareness groups as well as improve management and collaboration with other parties in improving suggestions and better ecotourism destinations.

Abstract

The terminological debate between “Islamic architecture” and “Islamicate architecture” has become a central concern in studies of architecture rooted in Islamic values. Although often used interchangeably, the two terms carry different theoretical and contextual nuances. This study aims to explore the conceptual similarities and differences between Islamic architecture and Islamicate architecture through an interpretative qualitative approach by examining both classical and contemporary literature, as well as architectural spaces that represent the two terms. The analysis reveals that Islamic architecture refers more to the historical products of classical Islamic civilization, while Islamicate architecture is a contemporary approach that seeks to embed Islamic values into the design process, regardless of traditional architectural forms. This study emphasizes the importance of terminological clarity in developing an architectural identity grounded in values and spirituality. The implication is that conceptual approaches to Islamic and Islamicate architecture can enrich contemporary architectural discourse in an inclusive and contextual manner.
