Abstract

Today the phenomenon of the influence of corruption to economic growth has been a fairly hot issue of debate, both theoretically and empirically. The research uses a data panel analysis with a Random Effect Model approach to determine if corruption has a negative impact on economic growth in 4 ASEAN countries over the period of 2004-2015. Analysis results show that variable corruption has a negative influence on economic growth despite being insignificant, while other variables that have a significant positive influence on economic growth are public investments. The results of this study confirm that the negative effects of corruption do not directly affect economic growth but rather lead to the inefficiencies of production processes and the misallocation of resources.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify farmers' perceptions of the concept of food security through an economic model of togetherness in Situbondo Regency. The data source of this research was obtained by observation, FGD and questionnaires with the data method using logistic regression analysis with farmer analysis units (food crops, breeders and fish cultivators) in Situbondo district. Based on the binary logistic regression equation shows that the perceptions of farmers, breeders and fish cultivators a positive and significant impact on the concept of food security, the economic model of togetherness is income and infrastructure. Therefore, for farmers, ranchers and cultivators, along with the increase in income earned and accompanied by easier opportunities to gain access to market infrastructure from the local government, the concept of food security with an economic model of togetherness is acceptable.

Abstract

This study examines the socio-economic dynamics of salt farmers in the northern coast of Probolinggo Regency under the pressures of globalization. Farmers face structural vulnerabilities such as weak bargaining power, dependence on middlemen, and limited access to technology and markets, raising questions about how they sustain livelihoods while maintaining cultural identity. The novelty lies in integrating economic ethnography with cultural theme analysis, showing that economic practices are deeply embedded in cultural frameworks. An economic ethnography approach was applied through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, supported by qualitative analysis with ATLAS.ti. Snowball sampling involved fifty farmers with diverse age, experience, land ownership, and production orientation. The findings reveal five main domains: production strategies, distribution and marketing, socio-cultural values, institutional relations, and attitudes toward technology. Taxonomic analysis grouped these into survival, social values, and global adaptation, while componential analysis highlighted six contrasting dimensions. Cultural theme analysis emphasized two guiding principles blessings and heritage. Modernization and sustainability of salt agribusiness require aligning innovation and policy with local cultural values to ensure inclusivity and resilience.

Abstract

The districts of Situbondo, Bondowoso and Jember are the centers of residence for the Pandalungan community. Pandalungan community is a society with mixed cultures, namely Java and Madura. Most of them live in urban areas. Like other community entities, some of these communities have not consumed organic food plants, given the scarcity of information about organic plants. The objectives of this study were: (1) to determine the effect of plant organic food product attributes as healthier food plants, and the discomfort caused by organic food plants on the motivation to shift consumption through the attitude of shifting non-organic food plant products to organic food plants. ; (2) to determine the effect of moderating motivation to elaborate information on the effect of product attributes and discomfort on product switching attitudes. The analytical method used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with AMOS applications, the research sample of 250 respondents selected from the three research areas, with proportional random sampling method. The results of the study show that product attributes have a positive and significant effect on product switching attitudes, as well as their influence on the motivation to shift consumption to organic food crops. Meanwhile, discomfort has a significant negative effect both on product switching attitudes and on motivation for shifting consumption. Product switching attitude has a positive and significant effect on the motivation to shift in consumption. The moderating effect of motivation on elaborating information strengthens the effect of product attributes on product switching attitudes, but the moderating effect of motivation on elaborating on information through discomfort is proven insignificant. The interactive structural equation function mathematically can be written as follows: (1) SK = 1,420 AT– 0.773 KN + 0.278 ATml - 0.198 KNml + e3; and (2) NI = 1.366 AT - 1.466 KN + 0.768 SK + 0.425 ATml - 0.787 KNml + 0.570 SKml + e4. shows that product attribute improvements can be widely and continuously informed to the public so that people will know and be able to make comparisons with competitors' products. This will motivate more wisely towards product switching. This finding related to the limited alternative product choices; product constraints are difficult to find, high prices (Zanoli & Naspetti; 2002, and Chinnici, and friends; 2002). Low availability in the market (Kalafatis, and friends;, 2009: Magnusson, and friends; 2012, Vindigni, and friends; 2002, Tarlanen & Sundqvist; 2005, Chen; 2009); and the minimum number of alternative options (Chinnici, and friends; 2002) as well as the cost of switching (Anton, and friends; 2007).

Abstract

Motivated by the need to better capture dynamic regional disparities, this study examines spatial and temporal development patterns in East Java, Indonesia, using spatial panel data from 2020 to 2023. A data-driven framework is proposed that integrates Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for dimensionality reduction, Dynamic TimeWarping (DTW) for temporal similarity measurement, and spatially constrained clustering using the SKATER algorithm. PCA compresses multiple socio-economic indicators, GDP growth, GDP level, Human Development Index (HDI), and population density, into a unified development profile, enabling comparison of regional trajectories over time. DTW captures non-linear temporal alignment, while SKATER preserves spatial coherence in cluster formation. The resulting clusters are used to construct an endogenous spatial weight matrix that reflects functional regional relationships rather than purely geographic adjacency. Validation using Moran’s I indicates stronger spatial autocorrelation compared to conventional contiguity-based weights, suggesting improved representation of spatial interaction. Four clusters reveal distinct development patterns and uneven regional trajectories. By integrating dimensionality reduction with temporal alignment and spatial clustering, the proposed approach extends dynamic spatial weighting toward a functional interpretation of regional dependence and offers a transferable framework for spatial data science and regional policy analysis.

Abstract

The Indonesian government strives to achieve environmental sustainability and economic growth as integral components of its development strategy. Two perspectives are applied to evaluate whether Indonesia’s economic growth adversely impacts environmental preservation: the Business as Usual approach and the Green Growth framework. This study examines Indonesia’s financial commitment to green growth, which is being implemented nationwide. Employing a quantitative research approach, this study analyzes the Green Growth Framework (GGF) concerning Financial Deepening and its impact on Sustainable Development Goals from 1973 to 2014. Methodologies include the Error Correction Model (ECM) and Vector Auto Regression (VAR). The research explores the dynamics between Indonesia’s economic growth and the implementation of the GGF, highlighting how various indicators within the GGF demonstrate both immediate and long-term relationships with the framework. The analysis provides insights into the extent of Indonesia’s progress in integrating green growth principles within its financial and economic systems. The ECM and VAR methodologies reveal the short-term fluctuations and long-term trends, respectively, offering a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between economic policies and environmental sustainability. Results indicate that implementing the GGF significantly impacts financial deepening, influencing sustainable development outcomes. The findings suggest that while there is a strong connection between economic growth and environmental preservation initiatives, continuous efforts and policy adjustments are necessary to ensure the long-term success of green growth strategies. This study contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable development by presenting empirical evidence from Indonesia, serving as a potential model for other developing nations aiming to balance economic expansion with environmental stewardship. The research underscores the importance of adopting a green growth framework to achieve sustainable development goals, providing valuable implications for policymakers and stakeholders.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the Sustainable Livelihood Approach (SLA) in supporting aquaculture households in Sidoarjo Regency as they adapt to structural shifts driven by industrialization and urbanization. The research analyzes how sustainable livelihood strategies enhance the economic stability of pond-based households impacted by land-use change. Using a quantitative approach with descriptive analysis, the study employs Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to evaluate the influence of key variables. Conducted in Kalisogo Pond Village, the study uses purposive sampling based on criteria such as economic reliance on aquaculture and sector experience. Data were gathered through questionnaires and analyzed for model validity and reliability. Findings indicate that the SLA significantly bolsters pond households’ adaptive capacity to structural shifts. Income diversification through non-aquaculture activities enhances economic stability and reduces dependence on pond farming. Social capital further supports households by strengthening local community networks. The study underscores the importance of institutional backing and microcredit access for aquaculture households. Policymakers and financial institutions are encouraged to support sustainable adaptation measures. These findings offer valuable insights into the SLA’s application amid structural changes in industrialized coastal regions.

Abstract

Sustainable development balances economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental preservation to promote long-term community welfare. This study examines rural development in Osing Traditional Village, Banyuwangi Regency, using the Sustainable Livelihood Approach (SLA) to identify key assets, vulnerabilities, and sustainability strategies. Employing a quantitative descriptive method, the study integrates pentagonal asset analysis, vulnerability assessment, and SWOT analysis with data collected through surveys and interviews. Findings reveal that natural capital is the dominant asset (value: 9.75), supported by social and physical capital. However, vulnerabilities such as fertilizer scarcity, rising input costs, and agricultural land conversion pose significant threats to sustainability. This study addresses a critical research gap by analyzing asset interactions in a rapidly transforming, tourism-dependent village, offering novel insights into the integration of cultural preservation, economic development, and risk mitigation. Beyond the case study, it contributes to the theoretical discourse on sustainable rural development and provides actionable policy recommendations. These include agricultural land protection, improved financial access, and community-driven initiatives to ensure long-term prosperity without compromising ecological integrity.

Abstract

East Java has shown strong economic growth, which negatively affects its environmental quality. Analysis of the functional relationship between economic growth and environmental quality is important to direct the growth without further deteriorate the environmental quality in this area. It is assumed that growth produces some externalities on environmental quality. The spread of technological information, economic productivity, population growth or investment, can be the source of the growth externalities. The objective of this study is to test the significance of the involved growth externalities on East Java’s environmental quality. Using spatial data, the externalities are accommodated in a spatial version of the STIRPAT model. It is estimated using per city/regency 2015 data. The analysis indicates that local density, local agricultural productivity, neighboring density, and neighboring mining activity significantly affect the local environmental quality. The latter two are the main sources of the growth externalities.
