Abstract

Elderly undergo a reduction in physical functions, especially in the musculoskeletal system, such as a decrease in muscle power, which affects their capacity to sustain body equilibrium and raises the likelihood of falling. Balance training can assist in enhancing balance by boosting muscle contractions and fiber strength, which consequently improves muscle power and helps maintain an upright posture, thus lowering the chances of falls. The goal of this research is to assess the effect of balance training on the balance level in reducing fall risk among the elderly. This study used a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 49 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data collection instruments included a balance level measurement sheet using the Time Up and Go Test (TUGT) and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Balance Exercise. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a difference in the average balance level before (pretest) performing the balance exercise, which was 21.80 seconds, compared to the average balance level after (posttest) performing the balance exercise, which was 16.27 seconds. The analysis showed a calculated z-value of -6.059, which is greater than the table z-value of 1.960, with a p-value of 0.00 (p-value < 0.05). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, concluding that balance exercises affect the level of balance in the elderly, thus reducing fall risk. It is recommended for the elderly to practice balance exercises regularly twice a week

Abstract

Abstract

Changes in people's activity patterns during the pandemic caused discomfort responses that had implications for blood pressure fluctuations in hypertensive elderly. This phenomenon is significant because high blood pressure can cause complications and hospitalisation. This study aimed to determine the effect of TERTARIK on the comfort level and blood pressure of hypertensive elderly. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pre-post test design with a control group was chosen. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample size obtained was 64 (32 per group), and 2 in the intervention group dropped out. Data was collected for four weeks with an intervention frequency of once a week. Comfort level and blood pressure variables are not normally distributed. These variables were tested with the Wilcoxon for paired data and the Mann-Whitney for unpaired data. The results obtained were that there was an influence of TERTARIK intervention on the comfort level (p-value 0,001), systolic blood pressure (p-value 0.001, and diastolic blood pressure (0.001) for hypertensive elderly. These results can guide nursing care for hypertensive elderly, especially with the complementary approach.

Abstract

Background: The elderly are individuals aged ≥60 years who will experience functional changes in their body systems, including the musculoskeletal system, and put them at high risk of suffering rheumatoid arthritis. This disease causes joint pain and often affects the elderly's ability to carry out daily activities, thus having an impact on the elderly's level of independence. Purposes: This study aimed to determine the relationship between pain levels and the independence of elderly people with rheumatoid arthritis in UPTD Puskesmas Mengwi II. Methods: This research is a quantitative study that used a correlational design and a cross-sectional approach. The sample was 67 elderly people with rheumatoid arthritis who were selected by the Purposive Sampling technique. Data were collected using the Numerical Rating Scale and Barthel Index, which were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. Result: The results showed that the average score of pain level in elderly people with rheumatoid arthritis was on a scale of 4 (moderate pain), with an average independence score of 75.37 (mild dependence). The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between pain level and the independence of elderly people with rheumatoid arthritis (p=0.000; r= -0.591). Conclusion: the pain level of rheumatoid arthritis impacts the elderly’s activities, so the nursing services can optimize pain management so that elderly people will not experience problems in carrying out their daily activities independently.

Abstract

Hypertensive elderly are very susceptible to blood pressure fluctuations despite taking regular medication. This phenomenon occurs in the hypertensive elderly group in the partner area. This programme offers education related to hypertension as well as hands-on demonstration of ‘Renjana’ deep breath and finger grip relaxation. Monitoring of the programme was conducted for a month to measure the level of self-management of hypertension in the elderly. Meanwhile, blood pressure was evaluated directly before and after the intervention of finger grip relaxation and deep breathing. The results obtained were a decrease in the average systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and an increase in the level of elderly self-management of hypertension. These results are expected to be a guideline for health workers holding elderly and non-communicable disease programmes to control the blood pressure of hypertensive elderly by improving self-management that emphasises stress reduction efforts.

Abstract

Quality of sexual life contributes to individual happiness and quality of life. However, the elderly are faced with stereotypes and myths that limit sexual life. Appropriate education about the elderly’s sexual life is expected to improve sexual quality which can then have a positive impact on the elderly’s quality of life. The role of elderly cadres, holders of elderly health programs at the Puskesmas, and caregivers is very large in increasing understanding of the importance of maintaining the elderly’s sexual activity and changing the mindset of the elderly and the community in responding to the elderly’s sexual life. JAGO PALU Support Group Training (Maintain Harmony through Increasing Elderly’s Sexual Activity) plays a role in increasing the right understanding of the elderly’s sexual activity. The service method uses virtual lectures, educational video screenings, and role-plays. Increased understanding of the sexual activity that is maintained in the elderly will improve the welfare of the elderly's sexual life which can improve the elderly’s quality of life.
