Sharia banking has been arising for 26 years in Indonesia. Its market share is still lower than 5%. Study about sharia banking’s market share is always an interesting observation. Mudharabah savings as one of the third party fund has a significant role to improve market share by low cost fund type. The objectives of this study are to analyze mudharabah savings elasticity, significant independent factor to it and initial market share improvement strategies. The methods used to combine vector error correction model (VECM) and business model canvas (BMC). This research concludes that conventional bank rates and sharia bank outlets have a relationship with mudharabah contract savings demand. Furthermore, mudharabah savings has a substitute relationship with conventional saving by negative cross elasticity. The results are combined with business model canvas (BMC) to describe mudharabah saving business model as a managerial action to explain initial strategies of mudharabah saving. BMC arranged by choosing conventional bank rates as value proposition focus and sharia bank outlets as key resources focus. Keywords: demand elasticity, mudharabah savings, business model canvas (BMC), sharia banking, initial strategies

Abstract

There is a gap between the potency and real data of cash waqf raising in Indonesia. Hence, an effective strategy is needed to develop the potential of cash waqf. This research aimed to analyze whether the Islamic Bank can be an alternative to the institutional development of cash waqf in Indonesia (Nazhir) and analyze the strategies needed to optimize the cash waqf management. This research used descriptive quantitative and qualitative approaches based on literature studies, observation, and questionnaires by using an analytical network process (ANP) method. The alternative selection of cash waqf management strategy through competent and professional Nazhir is determined by five criteria; including Accountability, Product, Human Resources, Regulation, and Network. In Nazhir selection’s analysis in optimizing cash waqf management, these five criteria have an important role in accordance with their respective functions to produce management strategies and cash waqf development through competent and professional Nazhir. The results showed that Islamic Banking is the most recommended Nazhir in determining the potential strategy of cash waqf development with the highest weighted score. Accountability is the most influential criterion in determining the cash waqf development strategy with professionalism in management as the most influential sub-criteria.Keywords: ANP, cash waqf, islamic banking, nazhirAbstrak: Saat ini diperlukan strategi yang efektif untuk mengembangkan potensi wakaf uang, mengingat potensi yang sangat besar namun realisasi penghimpunan masih belum optimal. Abstract

In this paper we attempted to answer a fundamental question whether banking systembased on a profi t-loss sharing (PLS) could improve welfare than an interest based banking system bydeveloping a rigorous theoretical modeling. In the framework of production technology we fi rstlyshowed that under production certainty and competitive market both PLS and interest based systemswere effi cient and right. However, under an uncertain situation due to a productivity shock,we proved that only the PLS system was right. We verifi ed our result by quantifying the effects onincome distribution for both lender and borrower. Two indicators, namely the standard error of distributionand Gini ratio were considered. We showed that the conventional credit market led to aserious income distribution problem where lenders did not enjoy the variability in income and didnot bear any risk, but in contrast, borrowers bore all the risk. On the other side, PLS system sharedthe risk between lenders and borrowers. In the end of the analysis, we proposed an instrument thatwould improve the performance of a PLS system from lenders perspective by introducing a so-calledrisk pooling mechanism.

Abstract

Microfinance is one of the solutions in poverty alleviation in rural areas. The existence of financial access in a rural area, with hope, low-income society can increase their revenues and eventually able to escape the circle of poverty. The agribusiness microfinance institution is the institution that provides financing services to farmers in rural areas. However, agribusiness microfinance institution is facing sustainability problems. We analyzed financial sustainability in terms of the cost-efficiency of the Agribusiness Microfinance Institution (AMFI). The study utilized a parametric approach method of Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA). The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, namely AMFI possessing two years of financial reports (in the year 2016-2017) around Bogor District, there were fifteen AMFIs qualified. The result indicates AMFIs' efficiency value in Bogor District almost approaching 100%. It means that the AMFIs' financial performance in Bogor District was highly efficient. Labor cost is a very responsive variable in the total cost. However, AMFIs' labor cost was low. This matter caused administrator performance in servicing their customers to become not optimal, thus impacting the unsustainability of AMFI.JEL Classification: G21, G23DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/jkdp.v23i4.3591

Abstract

The risk of financing is the risk caused by the failure of the customers to fulfill their obligations. Non-performing financing (NPF) is a representation of financing risk that is channeled and has a direct impact on bank profitability. The value of NPF tends to increase annually with a value that is already close to the maximum limit set by Bank Indonesia of 5 percent. This condition is able to lead to the inefficiency of the banking system and in the long run, will have an impact on the sustainability of the bank. Therefore, the analysis of NPF factors should be conducted as a preventive measure and a risks controller of business activities. This research analyzes the factors influencing NPF at sharia banking (BUS) using a quarterly data from first quarter of 2012 until third quarter 2016. The method used in this research is panel data analysis. The result of analysis shows that the factors influencing NPF negatively and significantly are ratio of revenue sharing financing (RR), Return on Assets (ROA), inflation, Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and Bank size while Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Operating Cost to Operating Income (BOPO) have a significant positive effect.

Abstract

This paper predicts the potential of the Indonesian Islamic insurance market, approached by calculating the premium contribution from the Islamic banking and sukuk sectors. This paper aims to determine and analyze the potential development of Islamic insurance market in Indonesia, seen from total contributions from Islamic banking and sukuk sectors over the next five years. The paper uses the Box-Jenkins ARIMA method which is one of the quantitative forecasting methods. The results of this study indicate that over the next five years, the total contribution of Islamic insurance will experience positive growth and it is predicted that it will have a total contribution of IDR 11,568.40 billion in 2023 from Islamic banking and sukuk sectors with the biggest contributor from the Islamic banking sector. The ARIMA forecasting results show a positive trend in the premium contribution of the Islamic banking and sukuk sectors from year to year. Even so, the growth will experience a slowdown. The prediction of a slowdown in the two sectors in its contribution to the Islamic insurance market in Indonesia is a sign that there might be a decline in the total financing growth by Islamic banking. Likewise with the sukuk sector, both state and corporate sukuk are predicted to experience a slowdown in the growth of Islamic insurance premiums.

Abstract

According to a survey conducted by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), 74.8% of workers and 85.7% of employers are attracted to Islamic pension funds. However, its market share is still relatively low compared to other Islamic financial product. The purpose of this study is to identify the internal, market and regulation issues that affect the development of FIPF (financial institution pension funds) and construct the strategy to develop FIPF for Islamic scheme. This study applies the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to determine the strategy based on the priority scale assessed by several experts. The internal issues of FIPF are the priority of both problems and solutions in the development of FIPF for Islamic schemes. Furthermore, from the identification of problems and solutions, the strategy for optimizing FIPF scheme performance and services are the main strategies in expanding the FIPF’s market, followed by FIPF's socialization and literacy strategy, and strategies for strengthening relationships and synergy between the authority and FIPF management.
