Abstract

This research aimed to calculate the number of phsycotrophic bacteria of nile tilapia reared in increased water temperature. For this purpose, 12 nile tilapias with body weight of 35-40 g were randomly allotted into 2 treatments groups with 3 replications. Fish in group 1 (P1) was reared in normal temperature (29±1° C) and group II (P2) was reared in high water temperature (35±1 C). All fish were fed commercial diet 3 times a day for 21 consecutive days. T-test analysis revealed a significant decrease in number of psychotropic bacteria (P0.01) in group P2. Total plate count (TPC) resulted in fish gills, intestinal, and muscle were 1.5×10³, 7.7x10³, and 9.7x10³ cfu/g respectively. In conclusion, increasing of water temperature reduce the number of phsycotrophic bacteria of nile tilapia.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out protein level of Keumamah fish dipped in water for various times of dipping. This study used 1.5 kg of keumamah fish sample purchased from Peunayong Market Banda Aceh and divided into four treatment groups. P0 was control group without dipping, whereas P1, P2, and P3 were dipped in 100 C of water for 10, 20, and 30 minutes, respectively, with three repetitions each. The average of protein level on P0, P1, P2, and P3 was 13.66, 12.29, 11.8, and 10.56%, respectively. In conclusion, the dipping time affect to decrease keumamah fish protein level.Key words: keumamah, protein level, dipping time

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine effect of bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides) leaf extract on the carcass weight and abdominal fat of broiler. A total of 15 chicken with the age of twenty five days old were used in this study and allotted into 3 groups with 5 chickens per groups. Broiler in group P0 (as a control) were not given bandotan leaf extract, whereas broiler in group 1 (P1) and group 2 (P2) was given 3 ml and 5 ml of bandotan leaf extract, respectively. The extract was orally given once daily for 5 consecutive days. Results of analysis of variance (Anova) showed that bandotan leaf extract did not significantly (P0.05) affect carcass weight and abdominal fat of broiler. The average percentage of carcass weight in groups P0, P1, dan P2 were 73.30±3.54, 71.80±3.06, and 70.33±9.18%, respectively and the average percentage of abdominal fat in group P0, P1, dan P2 were 1.99±0.68, 2.30±0.46, amd 1.96±0.18%, respectively. Based on these results it can be concluded that bandotan leaf extract could not increase carcass weight and reduce abdominal fat of broilers.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides) leaf extract on the amount of bacteria in broiler intestine. This research consists of 3 treatment groups with 5 replicates. Chickens used were 25 days. Group P0 was control group without administration of bandotan leaf extract, treatment 1 (P1) was given 3ml of bandotan leaf extract, and treatment 2 (P2) was given 4ml of bandotan leaf extract. The extract was given once daily for 5 consecutive days. The result showed that the average amount of microbe on P0, P1, and P2 were 2.50x105, 1.75x105, and 1.34x105.The results of analysis of variance showed that bandotan leaf extract significantly (P0.5) decrease the amount of bacteria in broiler intestines. Based on these results it can be concluded that the effect of bandotan leaf extract inhibit the growth of bacteria in broiler intestine.Key words: broiler, bandotan leaf extract, caecum

Abstract

This research was aimed to isolate the Gram-positive bacteria that contaminated milk processed with ultra high temperature (UHT) at 6 and 3 months before the date expires. A number of 3 different UHT milk products at 6 and 3 months before expire date were used as sample. Milk samples were taken from several supermarket in Banda Aceh. The identification was conducted using Gram staining method. One ml milk sample was transferred into 18 tubes containing nutrient broth (NB) media and incubated at 37 C for 24 hrs. The sample was then culture on 18 petri discs containing manitol salt agar (MSA) and 18 petri discs containing trypticase soy sucrose bacitracin (TYS20B) using streak plate method. After 2 days, bacterial colonies that grow were identified by Gram staining. The results showed that in UHT processed milk at 6 and 3 prior to expiration contaminated with Gram positive cocci bacteria, which comprised of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutant. As conclusion, UHT processed milk at 6 and 3 prior to expiration is contaminated by Gram positive cocci bacteria.

Abstract

This study was aimed to test the level of mesophilic aerobic bacteria contamination on chicken shank in "soto" food from restaurants in three different locations, Inong Balee-Darussalam, Ulee Kareng, and Campus of Unsyiah. A purpossive sampling method was used in this study. The sample of chicken shank in soto were collected in the morning at 10.00 a.m. and in the afternoon at 14.00 p.m. Samples were collected for 3 consecutive days. For each sampling, a total of 25 grams of chicken shank was put into plastic bag and directly transfer to the Veterinary Public Health Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Syiah Kuala University. The result showed that the chicken shank in the soto food from three locations of restaurant had been contaminated with mesofilic aerobic bacteria with contamination level exceeds the maximum limit of microbial contamination as allowed in SNI - 2000.Key words: soto, shank, restaurants
