Abstract

This study aims to determine the efficacy of jatropha curcas L. cream in the maturation phase of healing of mice leather injuries. This study used nine rats with 3 treatments, ie treatment group I smeared cream base (P1), treatment group II smeared 0.1% sulfadiazine cream (P2) and treatment group III smeared jatropha curcas 10% (P3). The result of ANAVA test of treatment I, treatment II and treatment III had significant effect (P 0,05) on fibroblast cells but each treatment group on collagen density level showed significant effect (P 0.01). Duncan test results on fibroblasts, P3 was significantly different (P 0.05) with P2 and P3, whereas the results on P3 collagen density were significantly different (P 0.01) with P2 and P1. The conclusion that 10% jatropha gum cream for 10 days can decrease the number of fibroblast cells and increase the amount of collagen thus accelerate the process of maturation phase of healing of mice leather injuries.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the dominant factor that clinically influent the occurrence of dehydration in goats aged 10-14 days old, in order to enhance the accuracy in diagnoinge the state of hydration. Ten native kacang goatlings were used as research objects. Kacang goatlings were dehydrated until loss 10% of their bodyweight by inducing diuretics furosemide (2mg/kg body weight every 4 hours) using intramuscularly, orally administration of spironolactone (50 mg every 8 hours) and hydrochlorothiazide (50 mg every 8 hours). Regression analysis was used to verify the correlation between clinical factors that considered potential, which are enopthalmus, skin turgor (back, neck and upper eyelid), capillary refill time, pulsus, breath, and body temperature. The results showed that enopthalmus, skin turgor on back and eye region has close correlation with dehydration occurrence with coefficient determinant R2 are 0.92; 0.90 and 0.81 respectively. It can be concluded that these three parameters can be used as predictor towards dehydration occurrence.

Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the types of parasites that infect catfish as well as to determine the prevalence of the parasite species. A total of 30 catfish were collected using nets then examined at Parasitology Laboratory, Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh. Ectoparasites examination was carried out by directly observed the outer surface of fish body and by mucus smear examination microscopically. While endoparasites examination was done by observation on the inner surface of the digestive tract. The study revealed that five types of parasites infected catfish were Dactylogyrus (43.33%), Gyrodactylus (20%), Tricodina (3.33%), Camallanus sp (3.33%), and unidentified worm (3.33%). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Key words: catfish, ectoparasite, endoparasite
