Abstract

This study examines the relationship between family communication patterns (involving two dimensions of conversation and conformity) and the personal-social identity of adolescents. This study uses a survey technique involving 214 adolescents from intact families and single-parent families in one school in Bandung, by providing two scales of the Family Communication Pattern Revised (FCPR) from Ritchie and the scale of Social Identity-Personal Identity (SIPI) from Nario-Redmond. Data analysis to test three hypotheses in this study using Pearson product-moment correlation and regression analysis to find moderation of the measured variables. The findings indicate that the dimensions of the conversation are significantly positively related to social identity and personal identity. While the dimensions of conformity are negatively associated with social identity and positively associated with personal identity. After controlling for family status and sibling position in the family, the dimensions of conformity moderate significantly positive relationships between dimensions of conversation and social identity.

Abstract

This research discusses the social practices carried out by Griya Schizofren to address individuals with mental illness who are often disadvantaged due to the negative stigma of their illness. This research uses a phenomenological approach. Data were collected from observations, interviews, and documentation. The results show that Griya Schizofren, to reduce the stigma against individuals with mental illness, established social, economic, cultural, and symbolic relations with those who lived in Griya PMI Peduli (Indonesian Red Cross) Surakarta through voluntary activities for individuals with mental illness. Social welfare activities in individuals with mental illness had shifted to business activity that opened a new field. The habitus of individuals with mental illness positively developed. Griya Schizofren restructured individuals with mental illness in a new layer of the community by promoting it as a society that can work within its limitations and produce products demanded by the community in the form of wedding souvenirs. Field of Griya PMI Peduli became a more humane environment as the shelter for abandoned individuals with mental illness. It also proved that total institution is no longer a frightening but collaborative field for capital exchange. Hence, using the theory of Piere Bourdieu, this research can answer how the stigma can be unfolded through works and capital exchange.

Abstract

When it relates to national identity, the issue of identity becomes relevant in the era of globalization. Considering the distance between local, national, and global identities and the variables involved is crucial. This research aims to find the construction of national identity within globalization exposure, socio-cultural changes, and formulation of Excel identity. This research took place in Jakarta and Makasar. This research used grounded theory as its approach. The data are collected using observation, interview, and Focus Group Discussion with snowball sampling. The research results show that the construction of national identity is blended in which national identity is mixed with local and global ones. Also, socio-cultural change influences the construction of identity. Forming a superior identity is equally vital to one’s international, national, and regional identity.

Abstract

The issue of extreme poverty has become a global strategic issue, but ironically, transient poor households are often neglected in poverty alleviation policy schemes. This group, despite their motivation to escape poverty, is highly vulnerable to falling back below the poverty line when shocks occur. This study aims to (1) describe the conditions of transient poor households in Sumurarum Village, Magelang Regency, and (2) identify the causes of transient poverty through a participatory approach. This study uses a qualitative approach with Participatory Action Research (PAR). Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussions involving transient poor households and village officials. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively through reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that: 1) Transient poor households in Sumurarum Village are in a vulnerability trap, with the following characteristics: a) Marginal welfare, where households are above the poverty line but depend on fluctuating daily wages and have minimal physical assets. b) High vulnerability, where they are exposed to shocks (health, social, program failure) without adequate protection, even more vulnerable than the extremely poor who still receive social assistance. c) Systemic powerlessness, characterized by a lack of access and voice due to the failure of data collection systems and unfair access to programs at the village level. 2) Issues causing transient poverty include: a) Limited human resources (low education and informal employment), b) Inappropriate intervention design (social assistance that only provides a sense of security, not improved welfare), and c) Village institutional inefficiency (information asymmetry and lack of specific empowerment programs).

Abstract

Abstract Public innovation sustainability remains a critical challenge in contemporary governance reform, as many initiatives fail to endure beyond their initial implementation phase. Mainstream public administration literature predominantly explains sustainability through managerial and formal institutional approaches rooted in Western paradigms, emphasizing regulation, leadership stability, organizational capacity, and accountability mechanisms. However, such perspectives are insufficient to explain variation in innovation endurance across governance systems characterized by institutional hybridity, contextual legitimacy dynamics, and complex state–society relations. This study aims to develop a conceptual framework for public innovation sustainability through the lens of Non-Western Public Administration (NWPA). Using a qualitative conceptual design grounded in systematic literature exploration and interpretative synthesis of scholarship published between 2000 and 2025, supplemented by foundational institutional theory, this study reconceptualizes sustainability as a socio-institutional and configurational process. The findings demonstrate that innovation endurance emerges from the dynamic alignment among contextual institutionalization, adaptive managerial capacity, sustainable resource support, and collaborative governance, mediated by social legitimacy and embeddedness. Sustainability, therefore, is not merely administrative stabilization but an ongoing process of institutional reproduction within a governance ecology. By integrating relational and contextual mediating mechanisms into institutional approaches, this study extends public innovation theory and offers a more context-sensitive analytical model for explaining sustainability variation across diverse governance systems. Keywords: public innovation; innovation sustainability; non-Western public administration; contextual governance; social legitimacy.
