Abstract

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the between the tourism industry and economic growth that occur during the Covid-19 pandemic in Bali Province. The variables used to represent Economic expansion and the tourism industry are two examples of foreign tourists, the number of domestic tourists, the number of star hotels, the number of travel agencies, while economic expansion is tracked using gross domestic product divided by population with the addition of dummy variables during the occurrence of Covid-19. Using monthly data from the 2012 to 2021 with the Error Correction Model, The findings imply that, in the near run, there is no statistically significant impact of tourism effect on economic growth. However, over time, it has a statistically significant effect and proves that the Tourism Led-Growth hypothesis is valid. The results suggest that the government can intervene the resilience of tourism actors and restore Bali's tourism image as a safe tourist destination.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the crucial role of government spending and domestic investment (PMDN) in driving economic growth, particularly in Bali Province, which is heavily reliant on the tourism sector and vulnerable to external shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of this research is to analyze the influence of government expenditure in the general services and infrastructure sectors, as well as domestic investment, on Bali’s economic growth during the 2014–2023 period, both simultaneously and partially. This study employs panel data combining cross-sectional and time-series data from 9 regencies/cities in Bali Province over a 10-year period (2014–2023), using a Random Effect Model (REM) approach after conducting the Chow test, Hausman test, and Lagrange Multiplier test. The results show that, simultaneously, all independent variables significantly influence economic growth. Partially, government spending in general services, infrastructure, health, and education sectors has a positive and significant effect. Meanwhile, expenditure in economic services, domestic investment (PMDN), and the COVID-19 variable have a positive but statistically insignificant effect on economic growth in Bali Province. It is recommended that local governments improve the effectiveness of economic sector spending, promote equitable distribution of domestic investment, and accelerate economic diversification to reduce dependency on tourism and strengthen regional economic resilience.

Data were collected through observation, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), and interviews involving nine stakeholders. The results of the analysis show that the role of regulation is very strong in influencing all variables in the system, so it must be the focus of development by policy makers. The actors who play the most important role in supporting the sustainability of the program are the Village and the Legian Aksi Nyata Kaja Waste Bank. A strong alliance of these actors is needed to support the success and sustainability of the program. The implications of this study indicate that strengthening regulations, increasing the capacity of managers, empowering communities, and multi-party collaboration are important steps in supporting the sustainability of the waste bank program.

Abstract

Air is very vital for the survival of living things, therefore it is important to maintain air quality to avoid pollution. One of the causes of air pollution is high carbon dioxide emissions resulting from economic and industrial activities which are trapped in the atmosphere, causing a greenhouse gas effect. This research aims to determine the influence of GDP, coal exports and fossil energy consumption on air pollution in Indonesia in terms of CO 2 emissions . This research also aims to test whether the Environmental Kuznet Curve (EKC) hypothesis applies in Indonesia. The type of data used in this research is secondary data in the form of quantitative data obtained from BPS, World Bank, etc. This research was conducted in all provinces in Indonesia. The data analysis technique used in this research is the Error Correction Model ( ECM). The research results show that in the short and long term the variables GDP, coal exports and energy consumption simultaneously have a significant effect on the level of CO 2 emissions . GDP in the short term and long term does not partially have a significant effect on the level of CO 2 emissions . Meanwhile, GDP squared in the short term partially has no significant effect and in the long term it partially has a positive and significant effect. This shows that the EKC hypothesis does not apply in Indonesia. Coal exports in the short term and long term partially do not have a significant effect. Fossil energy consumption in the short term and long term partially has a positive and significant effect. Considering the importance of air for human life, it is necessary to pay attention to the factors that influence air pollution.

Abstract

Economic development that only focuses on growth often has negative impacts, encouraging the emergence of the concept of sustainable development that balances economic, environmental, and social aspects. This concept, supported by the United Nations and various parties, is the basis for sustainable development goals until 2030, covering human, social economic, and environmental development. Sustainability, introduced in 1987, integrates environmental, social, and economic aspects or the triple bottom line in business standards and practices. The development of sustainable banking is still in its infancy, with some banks starting to adopt environmental and social policies. This research examines risk policies to support sustainable development in commercial banking through an analysis of 50 articles. The results show that economic and social efficiency, stability, and environmental contribution are important in assessing bank sustainability. Internal factors such as risk management and financial health, as well as external factors such as regulations and macroeconomic conditions are very influential.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks second as the world’s largest fishery-producing country. However, this potential contrasts with the relatively small and stagnant contribution of fishery exports to the GDP each year when compared to other export commodities in the agricultural sector. This study aims to determine the export competitiveness of fisheries and the effect of Indonesia’s GDP, the GDP of destination countries, Indonesia’s population growth rate, the population growth rate of destination countries, and economic distance simultaneously and partially on the value of Indonesia’s fishery exports to 20 destination countries. This research uses panel data, consisting of cross-section and time series data for the period 2018–2022. The data analysis technique employs panel data regression with the assistance of the Eviews-12 analysis tool. The results show that Indonesia’s GDP, the GDP of destination countries, Indonesia’s population growth rate, the population growth rate of destination countries, and economic distance simultaneously have an effect on Indonesia’s fishery exports. The population growth rate of destination countries has no effect on fishery exports, while economic distance has a significant negative effect on Indonesia’s fishery exports.
