Abstract

Eboni (Diospyros celebica Bakh.) leaf is part of the plant which used on empirically to decrease blood glucose levels. This study aims to knowing the activity of ethanol extract of ebony leaf in decrease blood glucose levels and the effective dose equivalent to glibenclamide. The study use 25 white rats male (Rattus norvegicus L.) which divided in 5 groups, that is negative control (0.5% NaCMC), positive control (glibenclamide 0.45 mg / kgBW), Etanolic Extarac Eboni Folium (EEDE) 200 mg / kgBW, EEDE 350 mg / kgBW, EEDE 500 mg / kgBW. All groups of white rats were used alloxan induction with dose 140 mg / kgBW intraperitoneal. Three days, after induction, rats with elevated blood glucose levels e”200 mg/dL were treated for 21 days orally. Blood glucose measurement was performed 5 times on days 0, 3, 10, 17, and 24. Blood glucose data was analyzed using One Way ANOVA with 95% confidence level. It is reveled that ebony leaf extract had activity in decrease blood glucose level by alloxan induction method where the effective dose equivalent to glibenclamide was dose 500 mg/kgBW.

Abstract

Minyak goreng merupakan kebutuhan pokok manusia. Tingginya tingkat konsumsi minyak goreng menyebabkan jumlah minyak jelantah semakin meningkat. Minyak jelantah agar dapat dimanfaatkan kembali, perlu dilakukan proses pemurnian dengan menggunakan adsorben arang aktif. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui persentase (%) perubahan kadar asam lemak bebas, bilangan peroksida, dan perubahan warna minyak setelah dimurnikan dengan arang aktif kulit buah sukun (Artocarpus altilis) serta perbandingan hasilnya dengan arang aktif di pasaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode titrasi untuk menentukan kadar asam lemak bebas dan bilangan peroksida serta metode spektrofotometri untuk menentukan kualitas minyak dengan melihat warna minyak. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terjadinya perubahan warna minyak dari gelap menjadi cerah dengan penurunan kadar asam lemak bebas, bilangan peroksida, serta absorbansi setelah dimurnikan dengan arang aktif kulit buah sukun berturut-turut sebesar 51,04%, 33,11%, dan 0,898 Abs (ayam), 48,38%, 29,32%, dan 0,721 Abs (ikan basah), 52,34%, 37,92%, dan 1,790 Abs (ikan kering), serta 50,16%, 35,41%, dan 0,231 Abs (tahu-tempe). Hasil statistik menunjukan terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara adsorben arang aktif kulit buah sukun dengan arang aktif di pasaran pada penurunan kadar asam lemak bebas pada minyak jelantah dari pengorengan ikan kering serta bilangan peroksida pada minyak jelantah dari penggorengan ayam, ikan basah, dan ikan kering. Kata Kunci : Arang Aktif, Kulit Buah Sukun, Adsorben, Minyak Jelantah Cooking oil is a basic human need. The high level of cooking oil consumption causes the amount of used cooking oil to increase. Used cooking oil to be reusable, need to be purified by using activated charcoal adsorbent. The aim of this research is to know the percentage (%) change of free fatty acid, peroxide value, and oil color change after purified with activated charcoal of breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) peel and comparison of the result with activated charcoal in market. This research uses titration method to determine free fatty acid content and peroxide value and spectrophotometric method to determine oil quality by looking at oil color. The results showed the change of oil color from dark to bright with the decrease of free fatty acid content, peroxide value, and absorbance after purified with activated charcoal of breadfruit peel for 51,04%, 33,11%, and 0,898 Abs (chicken), 48,38%, 29,32%, and 0,721 Abs (fresh fish), 52,34%, 37,92%, and 1,790 Abs (dried fish), and also 50,16%, 35,41%, and 0,231 Abs (Tempe-tofu), respectively. The statistical results show that there is a significant difference between activated charcoal of breadfruit peel adsorbent and activated charcoal on the market on the decrease of free fatty acid content in cooking oil from dried fish fryers and peroxide value on cooking oil from chicken frying, fresh fish, and dried fish. Keywords: Activated Charcoal, Breadfruit Peel, Adsorbent, Used cooking oil

Abstract

Garcinia rostrata Hassk.ex Hook.f is a plant that empirically used for lowering blood glucose levels. This study aims to determine antidiabetic activity of the n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol-water fractions of its root Garcinia rostrata Hassk.ex Hook.f extract as well as to compare their effects to Glibenclamide as the positive control in alloxan-induced mice. The mice divided into five groups. The first group was given Na.CMC 0.5% (as negative control) and the second one was given Glibenclamide 0.65 mg/kgBW (as positive control), while the other three was given of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol-water fractions, each at a dose of 130 mg/kgBW. Before given the treatment, the mice was induced by alloxan at a dose of 150 mg/kgBW, by intraperitonial route. At fourth day after induced, the mice its raising blood glucose level >200 mg/dL was given a treatment 25 days by oral route. The level of mice blood glucose was measured 4 times at day 4, 11, 18, and 25, the blood is taken from lateralis vein tail of mice.  Data obtained were statistically analyzed by ANOVA and continued by Duncan test. Based on those results, it can be concluded that the ethanol-water fraction at doses of 130 mg/kgBW has antidiabetic activity in hyperglycemic that is comparable to Glibenclamide. Whereas, ethyl acetate fraction, at dose of 130 mg/kgBW has greater activity in lowering blood glucose level than glibenclamide. Keywords: Garcinia rostrata Hassk.ex Hook.f,  Fraction,  n-hexane,  Ethyl acetate, Ethanol-water, Alloxan.

Abstract

Pain is a mechanism of body defense. One way to allay or decreasing the pain is using medicines that have analgetic effect. The aim of this study is determine the analgetic effect of cactus fruits (Opuntia elatior Mill.) extract and the most effective dose to giving analgetic effect. This study used writhing method by the injection acetic acid 1% as induced. Group I as a negative control used natrium carboxy methylcellulose 1%, group II as a positive control used aspirin suspension which dosage was 1,3 mg/20g BB, group III as a extract of cactus fruits give to dose 50 mg/kg BB, group IV dose 100 mg/kg BB, and group V dose 150 mg/kg BB. The result shows that cactus fruits extract to giving analgetic effect judging from the reduction strength writhing reflex to protection percentage at dose 50 mg/kg BB (11,26%), 100 mg/kg BB (42,10%), 150 mg/kg BB(60,14%) and the positif control (75,34%), at the positif control shows that higher protection percentage. Effectiveness percentage analgetic extract of cactus fruits at dose of 50 mg/kg BB (14,4%), 100 mg/kg BB (55,36%), 150 mg/kg BB (79,95%) and positif control (100%). The data which is got from the calculation later is analyzed by Kruskal Wallis. The result showed that at dose of 150 mg/kg BB is p: 0,016 (p<0,05) when compared with the positive control. So that is different significantly between dose 150 mg/kg BB and the positive control. The extract showed a optimal analgetic effect characterized by a significant reduction in the number of writhes or abdominal stretches in mice with dose 150 mg/kg BB body weight used when compared to the cactus fruits extract dose 50 and 100 mg/kg BB

Abstract

One of the plants that are often used in traditional medicine is the fruit of pumpkin used to treat hepatitis manner pumpkin fruit cut into small pieces and then steamed, then eaten .Pumpkin fruits contain active compounds such as saponins, tannins, flavonoids and beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is converted in the body into vitamin A is beneficial for the growth, maintenance of body tissues and to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. This study aims to determine pumpkin juice has a hepatoprotective activities on liver function by looking at parameters SGPT and SGOT in rats after induced CCl4. Type of experimental research using True Experimental research design design. Test animals were grouped into 5 groups, each group consisting of 3 rats. The first group of positive control (Methicol®), the second group negative control (CCl4), the third group of pumpkin juice 25%, the fourth group of pumpkin juice 50%, the fifth group of pumpkin juice 75%. From the results of this study concluded that the pumpkin juice 75% effective as a hepatoprotective by looking at parameters SGPT is 48 U/liter and SGOT is 66 U/liter in rats after induced carbon tetrachloride

Abstract

Passiflora foetida leaves used by the society for generations as a natural antidiabetic drug research aims to test the effectiveness of the leaf extract of Passiflora foetida with variations of a dose of 250 mg / kg, 500 mg / kg, and 750 mg / kg in lowering blood sugar levels in mice. Passiflora foetida leaves were extracted by sokhletasi method with 70% ethanol, the extract was tested on 15 mice, the test animals were randomized into 5 groups consist of negative control group given 0.5% Na-CMC, positive control group was given glibenclamide 0, 65 mg / kg, and the treatment group were given the leaf extract of Passiflorafoetida with variations of each dose of 250 mg / kg, 500 mg / kg, 750 mg / kg. To increase blood sugar levels in mice induced glucose 50%. Measurement of blood sugar levels in mice were performed using an easy touch glucometer and blood is taken via the lateral tail vein. The results showed that the percentage of blood sugar levels drop to a negative control is 13.1%, for a dose of 250 mg / kg body weight of 29.52%, for a dose of 500 mg / kg was 38.79%, to dosis750 mg / kg was 49, 21%, and 48.1% for the positive control. The results showed that the leaf extract of Passiflorafoetida at a dose of 750 mg / kg is most effective as an antidiabetic

Abstract

Research on diuretic activity of seed extract combination of papaya (Carica papaya L) and snake fruit (Salacca zalacca (Gaert.) Voss) to male wistar strain rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) has been conducted. This study aimed to determine the diuretic effect of the seed extract combination and its effective dose combination as diuretics. The extract was prepared by maceration method using ethanol 96%. Diuretic activity test was divided into 5 treatment groups. Each group consisted of 5 rats. Group 1 (negative control) was given suspension of Na-CMC 0.5%; Group 2 (positive control) was given furosemide 3.6 mg/kgBW; Group 3, 4, and 5 were given dose combination of snake fruit seed extract and papaya seed extract successively at “37.5 mg/kgBW + 7.5 mg/kgBW”; “70 mg/kgBW + 15mg/kgBW”; and “140 mg/kgBW + 30 mg/kgBW”. Each rat was then orally given warm distilled water (70°C) 10ml/100gBW as loading dose. The excreted urine volume was measured and recorded every 30 minutes for 6 hours which was continued to cumulative urine volume calculation. Furthermore, sample was taken from the cumulative urine to measure levels of sodium (Na), potassium (K), and the pH of the urine. Data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). The results showed that the effective extract dose combination was found in Group 5’s dose (140 mg/kgBW of snake fruit seed extract and 30 mg/kgBW papaya seed extract) with diuretic activity index of 1.48; urine pH of 7.52; sodium saluretic index of 1.62; and potassium saluretik index of 1.56

Abstract

Pisang Ambon (Musa paradisiaca L.) is one type of bananas usually consumed by Indonesian people. Besides its flesh which has high nutrition, its peels also has antioxidant activity. Antioxidants has the ability to reduce oxidative damage in people’s body with diabetes mellitus. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of the aqueous  extract of Pisang Ambon peels and to determine it’s effective dose as an antidiabetic agent in hyperglycemic mice. This study used male mice which all have been intravenously induced with alloxan at a dose of 50 mg/kgBW. They were then divided into five groups. The first two groups got Na CMC 0.5% (negative control) and glibenclamide 0.65 mg/kgBW (positive control), while the other three got  the aqueous  extract of Pisang Ambon peels successively at doses of 400, 800, and 1200 mg/kgBW. The data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) at 95% confidence interval with parameter of blood glucose levels difference between before and after treatment. The results showed that the aqueous extract of Pisang Ambon peels had antidiabetic activity at an effective dose of 400 mg/kgBW in hyperglycemic mice which was comparable to glibenclamide

Abstract

Cocor Bebek (Kalanchoe pinnata L.) is a medicinal plant that has been used as traditional medicine for long period, used to fight fever, but it empirically leaves of Tembelekan (Lantana camara L.) are also generally primarily used to treat fever. Research on the effects of the combination of Cocor Bebek’s leaf extract (Kalanchoe pinnata L.) and the leaf extract of tembelekan (Lantana camara L.) Pers on male guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) is induced peptone 5% at a dose of 150 mg / kg body weight. With the aim to determine the effect of the combination and determine the effects of the most effective as an antipyretic. Extracts prepared by maceration method using ethanol 95%. Marmots were divided into 4 groups. Each guinea pig was induced using peptone 5%. The first group was given Na CMC as a negative control group 2nd given a combination of one dose combinations (50 + 720). Group 3 was given a second dose combination (100 + 720). Group-4 were given a 3-dose combination (150 + 720). Temperature measurement is carried out for 2 hours with a 30 minute interval. Data were analyzed temperature measurements were statistically analyzed using ANOVA (Analisys Of Variance). The research result was addressing, that the combination of extracts can reduce fever. The combination is most effective as an antipyretic is cocor duck leaf extract 50 mg and 720 mg tembelekan leaf extract (50 + 720).
