Abstract

ABSTRACT: Purple uwi Banggai (Dioscorea alata L.) is a plant used as a source of carbohydrates and also has many benefits. This research aimed is to know the dosage of ethanol extract of purple uwi Banggai which is effective as anti-inflammatory to white rat (Rattus norvegicus). This research used 25 test animals that were divided into five groups. All groups were induced with 100% egg whites with subplantar method, after 60 minutes each group was given different suspension. The negative control group was given a 0.5% Na CMC suspension, meanwhile positive control group was given 9 mg / 200 gBB mefenamic acid, and the third, fourth, and fifth groups were given test suspension with variation of dose  200, 250, 300 mg / 200 gBB, then measured again inflammation volume with pletismometer for 6 hours with 60 minutes interval. Data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA. The result showed that the ethanol extract of purple uwi Banggai have anti-inflammatory effect on white rat induced egg white 100%. The effective dose as antiinflammatory is 200 mg / 200gBB.

Abstract

Gedi hijau (Abelmoschus manihot (L.)Medik ) mengandung flavonoid, alkaloid, tannin, dan saponin yang mampu melindungi mukosa lambung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas gastroprotektif serta untuk mengetahui dosis efektif ekstrak etanol daun gedi hijau dalam pemberian efek gastroprotektif terhadap tikus putih jantan yang diinduksi dengan aspirin. Ekstrak diperoleh dengan cara maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Sampel terdiri dari 24 ekor tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus L.) dibagi dalam 6 kelompok. Perlakuan diberi per oral selama 3 hari meliputi: Kelompok kontrol normal diberi 0,5% Na-CMC; kelompok kontrol negatif diberi 0,5% Na-CMC + Aspirin 600 mg/kg BB; kelompok kontrol positif diberi suspensi Sukralfat 360 mg/kg BB + Aspirin 600 mg/kg BB; kelompok dosis uji 1 diberi ekstrak etanol daun gedi hijau 100 mg/kg BB + Aspirin 600 mg/kg BB; kelompok dosis uji 2 diberi ekstrak etanol daun gedi hijau 200 mg/kg BB + Aspirin 600 mg/kg BB; kelompok dosis uji 3 diberi ekstrak etanol daun gedi hijau 300 mg/kg BB + Aspirin 600 mg/kg BB. Pada hari ke 3, tikus dibedah 4 jam setelah pemberian aspirin, diambil organ lambung untuk dilakukan perhitungan indeks ulser dan persen inhibisi. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji statistik Kruskal Wallis dan uji statistik Mann Whitney dengan ? = 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun gedi hijaudapat mencegah kerusakan mukosa lambung tikus yang dipapar aspirin dengan dosis efektif adalah 300 mg/kg BB yang sebanding dengan sukralfat

Abstract

The aim of this research was to compare  the protein content of  “ kampung” chicken’s egg  before and after poaching. Qualitative analysis was done using Biuret, Millon’s, and Ninhydrin reagents, producing violet, red, and blue-violet, respectively. Quantitative analysis was done by the Kjeldahl method. The resulf of the investigation showed that length of poaching time influenced the protein content of “kampung" chicken eggs. The protein content before the poaching treatment was 12,84 %, after 3 minutes of poaching 12,33 %, after 6 minutes 11,35 %, and after 12 minutes 10,95 %. Using statisticalanalysis, those data prored to be significantly different.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental murni dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui gejala toksisitas akut dan lethal dose 50 ekstrak etanol uwi Banggai ungu (Dioscorea alata L.) terhadap tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus). Penelitian ini menggunakan 20 ekor tikus yang dibagi menjadi empat kelompok dan diberikan dosis bertingkat yaitu 1 g/kgBB, 2 g/kgBB, 4 g/kgBB, dan 8 g/kgBB ekstrak etanol uwi Banggai ungu dengan sekali pemberian secara oral kemudian diamati gejala ketoksikan dan jumlah kematian pada tiap hewan uji setelah 24 jam, selanjutnya dilakukan pengamatan bobot badan selama 14 hari tanpa diberikan perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan LD50 ekstrak etanol uwi Banggai ungu (Dioscorea alata L.) adalah semu atau bukan LD50 yang sesungguhnya yaitu >8 g/kgBB dan masuk dalam kategori praktis tidak toksik (5-15 g/kgBB). Gejala klinis yang teramati pada tikus yaitu menurunnya aktivitas motorik pada dosis tertinggi dan frekuensi grooming yang meningkat seiring dengan peningkatan dosis.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas ekstrak daun rumput bermuda (Cynodon dactylon L. Pers) terhadap penyembuhan luka bakar serta mengetahui konsentrasi yang efektif terhadap penyembuhan luka bakar. Hewan uji yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kelinci jantan (Oryctolagus cuniculus) yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok uji. Setiap kelinci dibuat luka bakar di bagian punggung dengan diameter 2 cm, kelompok uji I diberi gel Bioplasenton (kontrol positif), kelompok II diberi basis Na CMC (kontrol negatif), kelompok uji III, IV, dan V diberi sediaan ekstrak daun rumput bermuda dengan konsentrasi masing-masing 1%, 3%, dan 5%. Pengukuran luka bakar menggunakan alat jangka sorong dilakukan setiap hari selama 21 hari. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan uji One way Anova dan dilanjutkan uji Post hoc Duncan. Hasil statistik menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun rumput bermuda memiliki aktivitas dalam penyembuhan luka bakar pada kelinci. Konsentrasi yang efektif adalah konsentrasi 5%.

Abstract

Prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can trigger ulcers and bleed in the gastric mucosa. Pepolo stem bark (Bischofia javanica Blume) was a traditional plant that has been empirically used to treat gastric ulcers. This plant contains secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids with gastroprotective potential. This study aims to determine the gastroprotective effect of pepolo stem bark extract (PSBE) against gastric ulcers of Wistar rat induced by Aspirin. The study used 24 rats grouped into six groups. Aspirin (150 mg/kg BW) was administered orally to all the groups except normal control. After 4 h of induction, normal and negative control received Na CMC 0.5%, while the positive group received Omeprazole (3.6 mg/kg BW). The remaining low, middle, and high dose groups received PSBE (100, 200, and 300 mg/kg BW). The treatment was given orally for eight days. On the 9th day, the rats were dissected and tested on the stomach organs. The parameters measured were scores based on the severity of rat peptic ulcers, ulceration index, and percentage protection ratio. The scoring data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test and post hoc the Mann-Whitney test. The administration of PSBE showed the ability to reduce the ulcer index and increase the percentage of ulcer inhibition significantly compared to the negative control (p<0.05). This study showed that PSBE could be a promising gastroprotective herbal medicine.Key words: Aspirin, pepolo stem bark, gastric ulcer

Abstract

Eboni (Diospyros celebica Bakh.) leaf is part of the plant which used on empirically to decrease blood glucose levels. This study aims to knowing the activity of ethanol extract of ebony leaf in decrease blood glucose levels and the effective dose equivalent to glibenclamide. The study use 25 white rats male (Rattus norvegicus L.) which divided in 5 groups, that is negative control (0.5% NaCMC), positive control (glibenclamide 0.45 mg / kgBW), Etanolic Extarac Eboni Folium (EEDE) 200 mg / kgBW, EEDE 350 mg / kgBW, EEDE 500 mg / kgBW. All groups of white rats were used alloxan induction with dose 140 mg / kgBW intraperitoneal. Three days, after induction, rats with elevated blood glucose levels e”200 mg/dL were treated for 21 days orally. Blood glucose measurement was performed 5 times on days 0, 3, 10, 17, and 24. Blood glucose data was analyzed using One Way ANOVA with 95% confidence level. It is reveled that ebony leaf extract had activity in decrease blood glucose level by alloxan induction method where the effective dose equivalent to glibenclamide was dose 500 mg/kgBW.

Abstract

This research divided into two stage which are the inhibition growth capacity test using agar diffusion method with the incubator period 1 x 24 jam hours as the first stage and second stage testing the TLC-Bioautographic. Sample made with the concentration 0,5%, 1 %, 2% and 4% w/v. The capacity of growth inhibited showed on Staphylococcus aureus and than. The TLC-Bioautographic test to the chromatogram of fractionation result with Chloroform : Metanol (15 : 6) on Escherichia coli 1 active stains with Rf value 0,32, for Staphylococcus aureus resulted 2 active stains with Rf value in a row 0,88 and 0,32 Key words: Antibacteri, Apium graveolens, bioautographic.

Abstract

Muntingia calabura L. leaves contains saponin and flavonoid that can reduce blood cholesterol levels. This study aimed to examine the effect and the effective dose of M. calabura L. leaves extract to decrease total cholesterol levels of white rats induced by high-fat diet. Extract was found by using ethanol 96% in maseration method. Before doing a different treatment , all the subjects were given a high-fat meal for 14 days to increase the blood total cholesterol levels. The subject were twenty five rats divided into 5 groups as follow: negative control (0.5% Na-CMC), positive control (Simvastatin 1.8 mg/200 g BW), ethanol M. calabura L. leaves extract in various concentration (50; 100; 150 mg/kg BW). All rats were given a different oral treatment for 14 days. Rats blood was taken to measure total cholesterol levels by using Nesco Multicheck Tester on the 7th day after acclimatization, the 14th day after high-fat food induced, and the 7th and 14th day after treatments. The data was analized using non parametric Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney statistical test at α = 0.05. The results showed that the ethanol extract of M. calabura L. leaves have an effect to decrease blood total cholesterol levels and the most effective dose to decrease total cholesterol levels were 50 mg/kg BW.
